Thankyouthankyou. Princeton is wholly indifferent to my presence, but it does feel just a tiny bit like Odysseus returning to Ithaca as I drive in after years away. What horrors I've seen these 3 years! (not really)
Readie 9:47:57 AM
Been up for 3 hours...not sure how that happened!
DSM 9:50:07 AM
There are whispers amongst the residents of old Princeton town of Deirdre’s return.
TAndy 9:52:20 AM
Your shows are like wandering the backrooms or an underground mall full of eclectic sellers and tables. You never know what you'll find
Richard from Rocky Hill 9:54:23 AM
@ Readie Well put! And I adore the name of DD's new show Motionless Motor Music plus his blurb promising "a summer of bungalow zen, macheted mapmaking and seaborn somnambulence ..." All you WPRB-FM hosts are sooooo creative! It's good I like you all (and the music you play) so very much ... otherwise I would have long since deleted all my 'PRB bookmarks on laptop and 'Droid in a petty fit of turn-of-phrase-envy ... ;-))
TAndy 9:55:14 AM
Mornin Richard!
Richard from Rocky Hill 9:56:29 AM
@ TAndy And a beautiful early summer-Sunday morning to you!
Richard from Rocky Hill 9:59:01 AM
@ TAndy Listening to the shows here on 'PRB is indeed "like wandering the backrooms or an underground mall full of eclectic sellers and tables." Well put, too!

Hey all! Been a while! I hope everyone's having a lovely day!
Readie 10:02:10 AM
deirdre it was so great to pass the Barge helm to you Friday! Great to see you!

deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:08:28 AM
Hey tommie and parr, and RRH belatedly, apologies! Still getting used to the new doodads and decks (they're swabbed) in the barge, your descriptions have been most pleasing though
TAndy 10:09:09 AM
Heya Tommie and Parr
Readie 10:11:56 AM
Lovin' this Beatrice D. jawn!
Tommie 10:12:44 AM
Been lucky enough to work with Beatrice Dillon before - really great artist and lovely person! love this one featuring kuljit bhamra on tabla!
Readie 10:14:08 AM
Cool, Tommie, do tell!
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:15:12 AM
Hah, i was thinking of you as I played the last two, being as they're from your neck of the woods geographically & musically. Was it music making or record store work, or a mysterious third option?
Tommie 10:20:38 AM
I worked with her on a project at Somerset House Studios in London - basically building a max patch that took data from outside the performance space and using it to trigger samples. Hoping to do more in the future 🤞
Tommie 10:21:17 AM
so i guess "mysterious third option" covers it !
Tommie 10:22:02 AM
This one is lovely
Readie 10:23:07 AM
@Tommie - like incorporating outdoor ambience and mixing it in with a live performance? Or pre-recorded sounds?
Tommie 10:25:15 AM
There was some ambience from outside but also there was a webcam and when certain colours would pass by it would trigger a sub bass tone
Readie 10:26:41 AM
Tommie, that sounds amazing, are you on bandcamp?
Parrscream 10:29:40 AM
Hey Readie, TAndy and dierdre! Great accompaniement to this lovely Sunday morning dierdre! Thanks!
Tommie 10:30:05 AM
It was a fun project! Really cool to work with some amazing artists! I really release my own stuff (at the moment!) other things getting in the way!
Parrscream 10:30:05 AM
Also, agree with Readie... that sounds amazing Tommie! I'd love to hear it.
Parrscream 10:30:13 AM
if possible
Tommie 10:30:14 AM

Tommie 10:30:38 AM
I'm not sure if there are recordings of that event... let me check
Tommie 10:33:10 AM
this is a promo video for the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ka4bC-SLdg you get a bit of a sense of the project but not really a chance to listen to the music
Readie 10:37:57 AM
Thanks, Tommie, I'll check it out after MMM!
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:38:34 AM
Looking forward to giving this a watch. I feel like wprb has a slight magnetism for christian marclay fans, or at least similar thinkers. And for anyone else who wants to flex an accomplishment for our applause, we are here for you!
Readie 10:39:16 AM
well said, deirdre!
Readie 10:40:26 AM
I'm listening on FM and carrying a portable bluetooth around with the WPRB stream.. and the delay enhances Philip Glass immensely!
TAndy 10:43:06 AM
Trying that now with my phone and radio
TAndy 10:44:46 AM
Oh my god
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:44:51 AM
On a couple of occasions at the old studio, I played the web stream back through the web stream to make an endless feedback loop and see what would happen. Have since learned that that is DEEPLY frowned upon lol, will not be doing that at the Barge
TAndy 10:45:31 AM
Do it
Tommie 10:46:48 AM
Thanks everyone! 🙃
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:46:52 AM
not in the AM, but if I'm put on late at night, my hand might slip...
TAndy 10:46:58 AM
That happened by accident once last year when a 1am slot DJs slot went awry. Feedback loop of the Key of W ID went on for nearly an hour, and became discordant noise after 20 minutes. All I could make out was the low bitrate cheering at the end.
TAndy 10:47:48 AM
Reminds me also of am old Reddit post I found once, someone tuned into WPRB late at night for silence. Heads a voice say "hello" a couple of times then scary noises started playing LOL
Readie 10:50:22 AM
ahhh, graveyard shifts at the Mothership!
sean burns 10:53:04 AM
As usual, enjoying your show. I wish WPRB would stop airing that PSA about getting drugs overseas. The only ones that announcement provides service to are the drug industry. I need several expensive drugs, The latest one farxiga. I have a drug plan of course, my provider Walgreens wanted $346 for 80 pills. I order through a Canadian company and they filled this prescription for $80 including shipping and this is not a generic. The exact same pill I would have had to pay $340 for in America.
Ossy 10:54:32 AM
Morning Ambience
TAndy 10:58:18 AM
This might be my favorite tune of the morning so far.
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:58:40 AM
Hey Sean, thanks for sharing experience. I picked out of a hat and landed on big pharma this AM it seems. Which ads we read are optional and I'll consider scrolling past that one in the future
Readie 10:59:30 AM
greetings, Ossy and Sean!
sean burns 11:00:39 AM
I'm certainly not pointing any fingers at you particularly Deirdre! Unless you have had to have the experience of needing expensive drugs there is no way to really know this. Plus it's almost racist or nationalistic or xenophobic in a way... It paints a picture of dirty people squatting on a factory floor manufacturing drugs with no oversight!
sean burns 11:01:31 AM
Hey Readie!
TAndy 11:03:54 AM
Happy pride month!
Readie 11:04:28 AM

And Soulful Sunday Readie Frizzle Jackson on Patty's usual oldies night!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:10:42 AM
Trivia re: the cover (shown in the playlist) of Philip Glass's album The Photographer, celebrating Eadweard Muybridge (1830 - 1904) of Britain who did pioneering studies of human and animal motion using a still camera capable of taking images in rapid succession. Horse lovers and trainers had argued literally for centuries whether a galloping horse always has at least one hoof on the ground or for a split second looses contact. Muybridge's famous sequence proved that horses briefly go airborne!
Readie 11:13:06 AM
@Richard, reminds me of the investigation underway at Churchill Downs of the several racehorses euthanized recently there- such a tragedy!
Melanie Varlese 11:19:34 AM
the instrument is called a uellian pipe!
deirdre dionysiac (host) 11:21:23 AM
Thank you Melanie! I coast off listener knowledge once more
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:22:26 AM
@ Readie Yes! I'm not greatly knowledgeable about horses. But clearly, such a recent large, tragic cluster at Churchill Downs of horse deaths and/or mishaps where the horses could not have been rehabilitated and euthanizing was the only humane option ... completely shutting down the track as part of a thorough investigation was exactly correct. Too bad Muybridge wasn't there with his remarkable camera, he might have discovered something!
Readie 11:25:13 AM
True @Richard! I saw a vid somewhere on how they try to rehabilitate injured horses, but it's fraught with problems - all that weight and motion on very thin legs...horses are such majestic animals...I just hope they can get to the bottom of the issues there.
Ossy 11:25:29 AM
Sonic genesis sounding
Ossy 11:26:19 AM
Yes, horses are full of grace, wild and tame like Spirit, Rapidash and Flicka
Readie 11:28:38 AM
@Ossy - Two TV shows of yore: My Friend Flicka, and Fury...and one of the first books I ever read: Black Beauty!
Ossy 11:30:23 AM
Cuteeeee!! Also Disney Horses like Mulan's and Hercules's. DreamWorks Spirit is a journey coming of adventure age
TAndy 11:32:13 AM
Hitting the road soon, thanks for the show Deirdre!!
Readie 11:32:55 AM
Nice! Old Disney animation from the 60's was sublime in its rendering of princely horses....
Readie 11:33:11 AM
Safe travels, TAndy!
deirdre dionysiac (host) 11:34:24 AM
Hope your car motor stays in motion, tandy!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:34:59 AM
@ Readie Yes, indeed re: racehorse rehabilitation after injury ... Any of us who've been forced to endure long post-op immobilization of an injured elbow, knee or shoulder knows how crazy it can make you. Imagine how it must be for thoroughbreds: They love -- and literally live -- to run!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:35:47 AM
@ TAndy Safe & happy trails to you!
Ossy 11:35:58 AM
Enjoy the sun, Tan
TAndy 11:36:01 AM
Thank you everyone, have a good Sunday :)
Ossy 11:36:39 AM
Readie - True, true like Sleeping Beauty horse of Prince Phillip
Readie 11:37:16 AM
@Ossy - the very one I was visualizing! Exquisite!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:40:03 AM
@ Readie To add to your list of classic horse stories ... If you never have, you simply must read the short story "The Adventure of Silver Blaze" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle -- one of the best Sherlock Holmes tales ever! (And watch out for "the curious incident of the dog in the night time ...")
Readie 11:42:48 AM
@Richard- thanks - I will check it out! I've been meaning to get into the Dick Francis oeuvre as well.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:47:43 AM
@ Readie Enjoy! Saddle up soon, and ride ahead of any spoilers. :-))
