It has been exactly 109 years since Sun Ra arrived on Earth!

Just getting back in front of the laptop after doing some work in the Barge studio, but wanted to express appreciation for Don Cherry's "Brown Rice". I first learned of that track during the wild west years of MP3 blogs. (So I'm guessing 2001 or 2002-ish?) Its been a favorite ever since.

Absolutely one of the best. I realized it'd been at least a year since it graced our airwaves, an oversight which has now been fixed.

Agree, Amy. I grew up with those records (my older siblings were all fans). Love the twangy vibe of her early records.

(Hangs head in shame for just publicly going to bat for Linda Ronstadt's "early stuff".)

(won't mention how often my husband refers to that album cover when topic of the music he grew up to comes up, especially as he nevr owned the album)

Current history needs a good old-fashioned supergroup a la 1000 Homo DJs. Like, a band with Kurt Vile, Homeboy Sandman, Lonnie Holley, and the singer of Special Interest.

I would see that band. Really, I'd see anything the lead singer of Special Interest is in. One of the most charismatic singers of the moment!
