There's a similar sculpture in the DC area called "The Awakening" https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g7791276-d6902298-Reviews-The_Awakening_Sculpture-National_Harbor_Maryland.html. The arms are rather similar

i drove by that sculpture Sunday and it was a definitely a surprise!

Same sculptor. Apparently there's going to be a whole year-long series of these pieces. Don't love everything Seward Johnson does (some of the "sculptures of paintings" are corny to me) but this is fantastic.

DSM looks like it will be up at least six months...

Very fun. Was quite neat to stumble upon that, not expecting it. Hope they are able to do the rest as planned.

@DSM, we very much made a u-turn to go back and see it after we passed it. Had dinner at Ottoburger and their beet burger rules.

I knew next to nothing about Johnson and all the versions. The original statue was moved from Hains Point in DC (which is the same place as the title of the Rites Of Spring song) to another location 15 years ago and I don't think I've seen it there

Grounds for Sculpture, the park in Hamilton NJ, is Johnson's doing. Worth a visit for sure.

I'll have to stop there whenever I'm next in that part of New Jersey

If you've ever been to Storm King, it is a like a smaller version of that.

Interesting! I find GfS doesn't take as many risks as I would like but their evening light show / audio installation series was a step in the right direction.

There used to be a cafe inside of Rats I quite liked.

Like, I saw The Feelies / could have seen Lee Ranaldo at Storm King and that would never happen at GfS.

I totally forgot about the light show, meant to see it, and didn't see it.

DSM, I expect they'll do it again. Was one of the most exciting things there to me programming-wise.

The New Pornographers is one of those bands I somehow just missed completely, besides reading about them or knowing of their existence. Sounds good tho!

Topic for later: Bands that you could argue put their best song on a compilation, not their own album.

DSM, you should really hear their first 2-3 records in full. Pretty amazing. The new one didn't completely grab me but I liked it well enough. Felt a bit compressed sonically which is something I don't usually notice...

I used to see the original Awakening down at Hains Point when I was birdwatching. It was moved to National Harbor 15 years ago and I have only been there once or twice. I miss seeing the Awakening
