I saw Love of Diagrams in a New Brunswick basement. In 2005 I think, with Hunchback and an early version of Vivian Girls.

I saw Hurry Up four years ago at the Asbury Park Brewery, Commie. I didn't know there was a Vail sister involved!

Hazel Dickens should not be confused with Hasil Adkins, whose birthday is today.

I have no idea if this is an urban legend or true but i heard hasil Adkins started doing his one man band thing because he heard bands on the radio and thought they were just one person playing all the instruments live

My dad saw Dave van ronk play in the 90s and he told a story about trying and trying to play some Mississippi John hurt song and never being able to get it right and then he saw hurt who played it much slower. So he asked him about it and he said the record company sped it up on the record

Alan, I hear a mockingbird a few yards over when I’m out sitting in the dark listening to the night critters. I’m not an early in the am birder either.

@ Amy: I was real lucky one year in January to hear two Horned Owls hooting at each other late at night, as i was in bed falling asleep..

Not a bird, but once I was out looking at fireflies at a park in NY and a bat flew into my hair
