Continuing our celebration of the life of New Jersey native Wayne Shorter (1933-2023), we'll hear his composition while he was with the jazz fusion band Weather Report (1970-1986). Along with Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever, Weather Report traces its origins to Miles Davis' late 1960's line up and breakthrough recordings "In A Silent Way" and "Bitches Brew". Cofounders Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul had played together briefly in 1959 with Maynard Ferguson's band, and kept in touch, finally forming their own band in 1970. | |
