hello hello!
Lee Chandler 5:01:36 PM
Hello!
Alan Pasnyk 5:02:10 PM
Lizzzzzbot!! Hello!!!
Number 6 5:02:39 PM
Hello, what weird and wonderful songs do we have today?
iamthelabhras 5:02:53 PM
Evening, WPRB listeners!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:03 PM
Hey Lee!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:07 PM
Hi Alan!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:20 PM
Hi Number 6! Lots of 'em up my sleeve!
Number 6 5:03:42 PM
Ding Dang Donovan!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:45 PM
Hi iamthelabhras!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:58 PM
@Number 6 - It had been too long!
Daniel Xiachetti 5:04:09 PM
Hey! Hey!
Matthew Robinson 5:04:38 PM
What's up everyone?
Lizbot (host) 5:04:47 PM
@Number 6- It will by no means turn into a Donovan-athon tonight, but kicking things off with the whimsical Scotsman
Lizbot (host) 5:04:55 PM
Hi Daniel Xiachetti!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:04 PM
Hi Matthew Robinson!
Number 6 5:05:12 PM
I just love unusual and off the wall stuff.
Lee Chandler 5:06:20 PM
If I had an intro, it would be this!
Number 6 5:06:23 PM
This fills the bill.:)
Jason Ferraro 5:06:24 PM
How have I not heard that Donovan song before?! Thanks Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:20 PM
@Number 6 - I aim to please, hence the oddball Raymond Scott and Kasra Kurt tracks!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:50 PM
Hi Jason Ferraro! No problem! I love that album!
Lizbot (host) 5:08:24 PM
@Lee Chandler - I especially enjoy picking intro music!
Daniel Xiachetti 5:08:57 PM
Putting me in such a great, strange place
Lee Chandler 5:09:10 PM
I already have a film short created in my head to this.
Lizbot (host) 5:09:33 PM
@Daniel Xiachetti - Excellent!
Alan Pasnyk 5:09:48 PM
This Kasra sounds like a Casio SK-1 with sampler...
Lizbot (host) 5:10:24 PM
@Lee Chandler - oooh, I can definitely see that Kasra Kurt track working for an oddball animated short
Lizbot (host) 5:10:41 PM
Hi Alan Pasnyk! Quite possibly it was
Alan Pasnyk 5:10:47 PM
...maybe only because I have that model keyboard...
Number 6 5:10:53 PM
I played the rap version of a Gilbert O'Sullivan song yesterday.
Lizbot (host) 5:11:16 PM
@Number 6 - Which one?!
Number 6 5:12:18 PM
Alone Again by Biz Markie. He got in trouble for sampling.
Lizbot (host) 5:12:28 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - a solid theory...I have two of my old keyboards lying around, but the thing I am best at detecting is old Rhodes electric pianos. I love their sound so much, but they're heavy and temperamental beasts. Too expensive to repair
Number 6 5:14:08 PM
Also JAMS and Culturcide pretty well destroyed some popular hits.
Lizbot (host) 5:14:31 PM
@Number 6 - Ah! I'm glad that when my kid was a toddler, Biz Markie had a segment on one of her favorite little kid shows, Yo Gabba Gabba called Biz's Beat of the Day where he just beatboxed and that's it!
Number 6 5:14:50 PM
Cool!
Alan Pasnyk 5:15:01 PM
@ Lizbot: The SK-1 I have is at least 15 yr. old, and not too big or heavy...
Jason Ferraro 5:17:02 PM
Colossal Youth Forever!!!
Lizbot (host) 5:17:17 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - The oldest keyboard I own is a Casio from the late 80s that was a very big deal to me when I was 10. I still like to hit that demo setting!
Alan Pasnyk 5:19:33 PM
@ Lizbot: You mean the small one...?? I think I also have that same model as you do, it's programmable and has a built in calculator...
Lizbot (host) 5:19:51 PM
@Jason Ferraro - I follow Stuart Moxham online for his excellent dog photos and old post-punk flyers he's always posting
Bud Burroughs 5:20:12 PM
I've got a Casio CZ 1000 that I haven't pulled out of the closet for several years. Last time I checked, they were selling on the used market for more than I paid for it 30-something years ago!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:08 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - Mine is kinda large and doesn't have a calculator. If I had a moment to run into the other room, Id check which model!
Dennisons 5:21:24 PM
Hey all! I have an old Casio in my shop with a key hanging by a piece of tape that I forget if it works anymore.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:22:11 PM
Good evening, fronds!
Alan Pasnyk 5:22:15 PM
@ Bud: Some people sell their "Junk" on the market, only to buy more "Junk" that's not even as good!
Lizbot (host) 5:22:38 PM
HI Bud Burroughs! I kinda wonder what mine's worth, but it's worth more to me! Best birthday present I got. I had a really dinky keyboard before that. This one has a ton of settings, midi. Blew young Bot's mind
Lee Chandler 5:22:47 PM
I know nothing about keyboards, but if that built in calculator could produce audio of calculations…well it would be cool.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:14 PM
Hi Dennisons! Mine is missing its cord so I have to put 10 D batteries in it!!
Lizbot (host) 5:23:36 PM
Hi Addie! Frondzie...Frond Fonzie?
Bud Burroughs 5:24:00 PM
Yeah, I never get rid of any of my musical junk, just acquire more now and then.
Lizbot (host) 5:24:20 PM
@Lee Chandler - I can think of a few composers who used math nerdiness to compose! Milton Babbit for one, with his 12-tone array
Alan Pasnyk 5:24:39 PM
@ Lee: It has "ADSR" settings, so put in an eight digit number and it gives a certain sound..
Dennisons 5:25:57 PM
@liz that’s like 2-1/2 Simon machines, I think. Everything used D-batteries back then, not realizing that Phillies fans would be using them so much.
Lizbot (host) 5:26:20 PM
@Dennisons - Tell Mary I saw the Cameron Crowe musical of Almost Famous in November. It was worthwhile but flawed as a musical. It's his first musical. I wonder if he will attempt to adapt Say Anything and I'm NOT sure how I feel about that!
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:26:29 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Grooving on the playlist, as ever (grooving, yes, you started with Donovan after all!) And although I'm a string and not keyboard player, I loved the Casio discussion. One early model had a built in calculator? Really??? :-))
Alan Pasnyk 5:27:11 PM
@ Richard: Digging it out now....
Lizbot (host) 5:27:28 PM
@Dennisons - Ha! I'm always worried I'll forget to change them and they'll leak and ruin my beloved Casio
Lizbot (host) 5:27:39 PM
Hi Richard from Rocky Hill! Thanks!
Lee Chandler 5:28:13 PM
As an acquirer & on again off again pusher of stuff, I’m suddenly remembering there are musical keyboards & what-not in my warehouse…or the more common term, my basement.
Dennisons 5:28:31 PM
Yeah, I feel that way about my Simons (I love those beepy things)
Alan Pasnyk 5:29:20 PM
@ Richard: It's a CASIO VL-TONE model VL-1
Dennisons 5:30:52 PM
@alan that’s a cool looking little keyboard
Alan Pasnyk 5:32:31 PM
@ Dennisons: The best part is if you program it and turn it off, it still retains the melody of what you put in, and it's small!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:34 PM
I think Burroughs says "I was smart-drunk" at the beginning of this Tunng track, and now I'm thinking about what smart-drunk would be..
Lizbot (host) 5:34:13 PM
@Lee Chandler - Yeah, I stopped keeping any instruments or electronic gear (other than my husband's old drum kit) in the basement ever since the main sewer line in my previous house burst and destroyed everything down there! Yay for 100 year-old Philly pipes!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:06 PM
@Dennisons - oooh, I have a soft spot for Simons too! I still have my original Simon from my childhood PLUS a Super Simon I got on Ebay 20 years ago!
Lee Chandler 5:36:12 PM
I call it, well John Wayne calls it in I think (?) McLintok!…thinking’ drinking’.
Lizbot (host) 5:37:20 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - I have yet to see this famed calculator Casio, but I had a Casio calculator and a Casio keyboard, so I suppose I could just duct tape one to the other!
Alan Pasnyk 5:37:32 PM
@ Lizbot: No more Philly Fairmount pipes for me, sold the house last November and made an Exodus to Doylestown, it was my mom's house...
Dennisons 5:38:49 PM
@Alan that’s so cool, I love the sound of those old keyboards
CARLOS RAMONE. 5:38:58 PM
@ Liz ..a little late on this one but since I found out my nephews daughter watches Yo Gabba Gabba everyday I make it a point to wear an Aquabats shirt or hoddie on every visit
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:39:53 PM
@Alan Pasnyk: A CASIO VL-TONE model VL-1, eh? Thanks muchly. I've got to see if there's archival advertisements extolling its features, esp. the virtues of its on-board calculator ...
Dennisons 5:40:08 PM
@liz I love how bassy they are. I had the beeps loaded onto my Dr. Sample sp-202 but it didn’t feel quite the same.
Alan Pasnyk 5:40:27 PM
https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m29984447897/?gclsrc=aw.ds&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=18938311364&utm_content=t0&adgroup=146082192440&network=g&device=c&merchant_id=134611514&product_id=m29984447897&product_id=1890666423530&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxbefBhDfARIsAL4XLRpr9he3pBm-zKH3UeqwpDeSNUFzKuzwXQAmTNv6yMaHem0R0m_XM5waAtfwEALw_wcB
Lizbot (host) 5:41:00 PM
@Lee Chandler - "I've been doing some thinking drinking," John Wayne says while addressing an actual bunny...cuz he's that bored on the range
Alan Pasnyk 5:41:11 PM
Yep! that's the little bugger about 14 inches long...
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:41:55 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Duct tape together a Casio keyboard and a Casio calculator, brilliant! :-))
Lizbot (host) 5:43:03 PM
Hi Carlos Ramone! Nice! The Aquabats get endless credit for creating that show! WAY better than 99% of TV for kids that age! I love how many great guest bands come on that show and the soundtracks compilations of the YGG are actually pretty good, esp the catchy AF song about brushing one's teeth!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:04 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - What CAN'T duct tape do? I can trick out my keyboard into a Swiss Army Keyboard
Lee Chandler 5:44:38 PM
I’m in the Jersey suburbs & a couple times a year a little water from a really heavy storm or so creeps in so learned to elevate everything in the basement.
jimboo 5:44:46 PM
THIS IS LOVELYYYYYYYYYYYY
Lizbot (host) 5:45:17 PM
@Dennisons - I think about Simons probably more than is healthy. They look like those old tinted circular Christmas tree lamps you put at the base of the tree that rotate with a wheel of colors...there NEEDS to be a shorter name for those!
Jason Ferraro 5:45:25 PM
I have to go to band practice now :( but your show always rips so hard. Thanks Lizbot. If anyone likes Depeche Mode, YAZ, Sisters of Mercy and Ween consider coming to Ortliebs March 18th lol. 😘
Lizbot (host) 5:46:26 PM
Hi jimboo! I love Jimmy Somerville's incredible soaring vocals and this song is in a very powerful scene at the end of one of my all-time favorite films, Sally Potter's adaptation of V. Woolf's Orlando
Lizbot (host) 5:47:10 PM
@Jason- Thanks! That concert sounds good but I'll be in Mexico then!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:08 PM
@Jason Ferraro - Have a great band practice!
Dennisons 5:48:12 PM
Also like those 1950s War of the World faces on the alien Hoover looking things. I love the color of those things.
Lee Chandler 5:48:18 PM
I loved the Sisters of Mercy. I’m intrigued.
Number 6 5:48:33 PM
Speaking of calculators, I have some where the display goes nuts when you divide by 0.
Lizbot (host) 5:49:14 PM
@Lee Chandler - yeah...I'm in NW Philly now, and I don't get much basement moisture, thankfully! The WORST was when I lived in South Philly near the Italian Market - All the basements on my block got so much water with even a moderate rain!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:57 PM
@Number 6 - Calculators themselves are these antiquated collectibles at this point! My 8th grader doesn't even have one!
Number 6 5:51:40 PM
The older parts of Philly have combined sewers where both rainwater and everything else goes together.
Lizbot (host) 5:52:28 PM
@Dennisons - I am intrigued about this War of the Worlds Hoover....Im jealous that in the UK they have these affable Hoovers everywhere! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_(vacuum)
Lee Chandler 5:52:29 PM
Number 6, That sounds…terrifying.
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:52:35 PM
@ Lizbot (host) I am firmly convinced that the Unified Field Theory a.k.a. ToE (Theory of Everything) in advanced theoretical physics, which will eventually unite General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, the strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, and electromagnetic force -- plus all observed elementary particles -- in one framework will simply prove to be The Formula for Constituting & Manufacturing Duct Tape! (On a cosmic scale, of course ...)
Number 6 5:52:46 PM
I mostly use my phone or a cheap $ store one for calculating.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:11 PM
@Number 6 - But what ISN'T the older part of Philly? Every house Ive ever lived in was over 100 years old with skronky pipes!
Lizbot (host) 5:53:47 PM
@Dennisons - Simons are sonic and visual simple design perfection!
Number 6 5:54:42 PM
The outlying areas have newer pipes. Mine was built in the early 60s.
Number 6 5:55:36 PM
@ Lee- You can always press clear to get them back to normal.
Francis 6:00:57 PM
Quick question - Why did you decide on the DJ name of Lizbot? Does it have something to do with roBOTs?
Lizbot (host) 6:02:04 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - Saw yr comment just as I got on mic, so sorry for the delay. Haha, duct tape is all! I saw a goofy film at the Phila Film Festival at least 10 years ago that talked about ToE (amongst other things) called The ToE Tac Tic
Lizbot (host) 6:03:51 PM
Hi Francis! I picked it when I was in my early 20s and it started as a nickname amongst friends. My friend had made me a shirt with a robot version of myself silk-screened on it. It had at least something to do with the fact that I collected old 70s and 80s TOMY toy robots back then. I still have the collection, but haven't added to it in at least a dozen years!
Lizbot (host) 6:06:04 PM
Okay, whoever wants to see Weyes Blood at Union Transfer on February 28th, take note: I will be asking a question in the chat for the tickets. Whoever answers first gets a pair!
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:06:16 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Thanks for your respectful consideration of my theory. But all my advanced theoretic physicist and cosmologist friends (and I actually have a few) dast reject my mighty cosmic insight!!! The fools! Tossing their potential Nobel Prizes into the crushing chaos of Science's black hole of Might-Have-Been!!!
Laura Loewen 6:06:19 PM
Well, this could be a dumb question, but I'm curious what format the music is mostly in that you play?
Francis 6:06:26 PM
ahh - cool - thanks.. I remember those robots
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:07:04 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Duct Tape Rules! Duct Tape Unites the Universe!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:08:31 PM
Hi Laura Loewen! Back when all the WPRB DJs broadcast from our studio in Princeton, mostly CDs & vinyl. We have a large music library there, plus we bring in our own records too. Since the pandemic and home-studios, however, less vinyl cuz it's trickier to do in the home set-up
Lizbot (host) 6:08:55 PM
I want a BBQ party on blood-red sands, please
Lizbot (host) 6:09:22 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - You can pen the tenets of the DTUU theory!
Rob from Maryland 6:09:42 PM
Station coming in loud and clear through the wires!! :-)
Lizbot (host) 6:10:18 PM
@Francis - One of the TOMYs I have is Mr. DJ from the 80s. He still works...last I checked! http://www.theoldrobots.com/mrdj.html
Lizbot (host) 6:10:28 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland! Happy to hear it!
Number 6 6:11:00 PM
We might be going back in the studio next month, or hopefully soon.
jimboo 6:11:35 PM
EARS PRICKED. THEY BLEEDING. BEAUTIFULLY. 💥💥💥
Rob from Maryland 6:11:59 PM
We love this Peter Gabriel song! We are positively melting
Rob from Maryland 6:12:12 PM
And hi Lizbot and everyone!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:26 PM
@Number 6 - I think we just need another big pile of equipment!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:40 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Same! One of my favorites from PG!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:50 PM
@jimboo - haha, SOOOON
Number 6 6:13:55 PM
I might be able to spring for something for The Barge.
Lizbot (host) 6:14:37 PM
@Number 6 - I just donated a thing that's coming to Mike soon!
Lizbot (host) 6:14:47 PM
... ...
Lizbot (host) 6:15:02 PM
OKAY...
Lee Chandler 6:15:12 PM
The Barge Marge. Just paying tribute to a fav.
Lizbot (host) 6:15:54 PM
FOR a pair of WEYES BLOOD tickets at Union Transfer Feb 28th : Who can tell me first what author penned Weyes Blood's namesake??
Number 6 6:17:04 PM
Being a DJ, I'm out.
Lee Chandler 6:17:28 PM
Flannery O’Connor
Lizbot (host) 6:17:30 PM
@Number 6.- true!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:36 PM
@Lee Chandler - YES!
Dennisons 6:18:33 PM
Sigh…. I couldn’t sign in in time!
Number 6 6:18:44 PM
Who knew? :)
George Korein 6:18:54 PM
I audiobooked it and enjoyed the dark humor.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:06 PM
@Dennisons - Bummer. BUT...I have a 2nd pair! I will be asking another question soon!
Ambrose Hughes 6:20:44 PM
Evenin' Lizbot! 😍 🎶
Dennisons 6:20:48 PM
Woo!
Matthew Robinson 6:21:05 PM
daaang nice grab Lee!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:21 PM
@Lee Chandler - Okay...Now I gotta put you on the guest-list. We USED to get ticket winner info over the studio phone, but since I'm broadcasting live from home, I ask that you please email me your full name at lizbot@mac.com from whatever email address you will be checking before the show
Dennisons 6:21:29 PM
An congrats Lee!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:37 PM
@Matthew Robinson - Another pair is coming up SOON
Matthew Robinson 6:23:36 PM
ayyooo!
Matthew Robinson 6:24:03 PM
unfortunately.. i have a date.. might be outta the loop!
Lee Chandler 6:24:18 PM
Thanks! And yes, I’ve been thinking about this since Lizbot announced it on last weeks show.
Ossy 6:24:24 PM
Hello Liz, on a drenchy, stinky and gloomy night
Lee Chandler 6:25:40 PM
And, as a general rule, I don’t look forward or get excited about stuff. Yet, I am more glass full if that makes sense.
Lizbot (host) 6:26:21 PM
Okay...for the FINAL PAIR for WEYES BLOOD tickets!: WHAT Philly noise rock band did Natalie Mering (Weyes Blood) sing and play keyboards in when she was a teenager?
iamthelabhras 6:27:03 PM
Hall & Oates!

Matthew Robinson 6:31:58 PM
28th is a go
Shut Up Wesley 6:33:01 PM
Congratulations @Matthew Robinson! 🏆🥇
Shut Up Wesley 6:33:39 PM
I would have also guessed Extreme Spazz Typo.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:41 PM
@Matthew Robison - Haha, I figured a typo- Kind of a funny one! Sanitized Satan. I was at that show where she first sang with Satanized (members of the band were my fiends and husband's roommate back then). Nothing about that space was sanitized!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:49 PM
@Shut Up Wesley - Ha!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:46 PM
@Matthew Robinson - Great! Would you mind emailing lizbot@mac.com so I have yr email to get you on the guest list?
Lizbot (host) 6:38:06 PM
@Wesley - I literally have Andy Partridge's Fuzzy Warbles collection 2 inches from me on my desk right now
Shut Up Wesley 6:38:38 PM
Apologies- The Fuzzy Warble Boys is the name of my new Ska Bluegrass band.
Shut Up Wesley 6:39:44 PM
@LizBot Of course you do. But - Will. She. Play. It?
Lizbot (host) 6:40:05 PM
@Lee Chandler - I still need yr email, so pls don't forget to send an email to the address I typed below
Lizbot (host) 6:41:16 PM
@Wesley - no plans to today...I was actually backing up the mp3s from the CDs of Vol 1-3 from its paper digipack onto my computer earlier
Camryn Phillips 6:41:40 PM
Not sure if you take requests, but I’d love to hear something by The Narcissist Cookbook (maybe Not Entirely Alone or Papillon?)
Lizbot (host) 6:42:24 PM
HI Camryn Phillips - I do when I can accommodate find them and fit them into the show. I'll see what I can do!
Matthew Robinson 6:42:29 PM
thank you thank you thank you
Matthew Robinson 6:42:53 PM
WPRB makes your dreams come true
Shut Up Wesley 6:43:44 PM
@LizBot Of course, Andy Partridge is about All Things British. So he would name a collection after a term Anthony Burgess coined for recordings.
Lizbot (host) 6:43:48 PM
@Matthew Robinson - We aim to please
Ossy 6:44:23 PM
I swear they find the rarest magical and mystical sounds and throwback songs, you don't often hear on mainstream radio!
Lizbot (host) 6:44:30 PM
@Wesley - How very Partridge of him!
Lizbot (host) 6:44:54 PM
@Ossy - We try! It's all stuff I wanna hear on the radio!
Dennisons 6:45:18 PM
Another great Judee Sill song, I need to get more of her stuff.
Lizbot (host) 6:50:33 PM
@Dennisons - She sadly only has the two albums since her life was cut short so young
Lizbot (host) 6:51:05 PM
@Dennisons - Both are amazing, the self-titled and Heart Food
CARLOS RAMONE. 6:52:42 PM
@ Liz…I recall an ad for the Khyber Pass showing the photo of Ruby shooting Oswald with the line ..We aim to please
Lizbot (host) 6:53:03 PM
@Dennisons - Which movie are you guys covering on MVM this week? I can't remember the results of last week's coin flip! Looking forward to Hollywood Avalon
Lizbot (host) 6:55:15 PM
@Carlos Ramone - oh boy! Did you ever see the LH Oswald photo manipulation the late great WPRB DJ Dr. Cosmo made decades ago?
CARLOS RAMONE. 6:57:06 PM
@ Liz…I never have…I want you to show me the way
Dennisons 6:58:10 PM
@Liz tonight’s ep is Arthur, which held up better than I expected. We’re going to watch Happy Together tonight, a Patrick Dempsey thing that does not sound promising.
Lee Chandler 6:58:36 PM
Emailed you Lizbot.
Lizbot (host) 6:58:39 PM
@Carlos Ramone - It was used on some Negativland album packaging and achieved a certain level of early internet fame. Was pretty impressive Photoshop-ing for 1996! https://stephaniedoes.com/2011/remembering-dr-cosmo/
Lizbot (host) 6:58:48 PM
@Lee Chandler - Got it! Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:22 PM
@Dennisons - Oh god, that's right. For some reason (no, I know why - it was on TV for free a LOT when I was a kid) I saw Arthur too many times and I was never into it!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:32 PM
@Dennisons - Haven't heard of that Dempsey one
Lee Chandler 7:01:07 PM
Thank YOU!
Dennisons 7:01:27 PM
@liz me neither. My expectations are below the basement.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:52 PM
@Lee Chandler - You're welcome! Enjoy!
Captain Ahab 7:03:02 PM
howdy howdy
Alan Pasnyk 7:03:17 PM
Joni !!
Alan Pasnyk 7:04:11 PM
Howdy to you 2 Ahab!
Lizbot (host) 7:04:24 PM
@Dennisons - I just looked that movie up and remembering seeing its visually meh neon VHS cover art from the video store, but that's about it!
Lizbot (host) 7:04:31 PM
Hi Captain Ahab!
Lizbot (host) 7:04:46 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - It's a Joni kind of a day
CARLOS RAMONE. 7:05:41 PM
@ Liz…thanks for the link..love the DK in the background
Alan Pasnyk 7:05:46 PM
@ Lizbot: Right you are nailin' the drizzly mood tonoght!!!
Dennisons 7:06:19 PM
@Liz Mary said she’s enjoying the show but has been busy.
Lizbot (host) 7:06:37 PM
@Carlos Ramone - NICE! I debated on whether to point out the Dead Kennedys symbol or see if you noticed it because a lot of ppl don't upon first viewing!
Lizbot (host) 7:07:19 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - Drizzly day definitely made me introspective and moody!
Alan Pasnyk 7:08:22 PM
@ Lizbot: I just love the change of chords in this Joni...
Lizbot (host) 7:09:38 PM
@Dennisons - Tell Mary "thanks!" and tell her I loved her enthusiasm for Say Anything last week! I had a similar "Why didn't I get into this sooner?" experience with that movie. I did see it back in the late 80s but in weird circumstances and wasn't in the right headspace. Rewatching it years later I was like "Holy crap, this is great!" It was really fun watching Hattie watch it for the first time last summer. She rewatched it 2 more times in a month!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:31 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - Hejira is such a gorgeous album, and I love the themes of wandering on the open road (or in Amelia's case, the open sky) on it
Dennisons 7:13:25 PM
@Liz same for me, I avoided that movie because I thought it would be another John Hughes dated movie of high schoolers acting like jerks, but it’s was way better than we expected! Not sure about a stage version, though.
CARLOS RAMONE. 7:13:32 PM
@ Liz..rumor has it that Jackie K was the first to say “ Dallas sucks” not sure if it is true or not
Lee Chandler 7:13:36 PM
Ha! I have a few fav movies I’ve tried to get my husband to like because every time he’s tried to watch them, I’m convinced he hasn’t been in the right headspace.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:20 PM
@Dennisons - I don't want a stage version to exist...or DO I...? Nah. I am curious, but I really don't think it would be a good thing. Almost Famous lends itself better to a musical format because of all the Stillwater songs and other 70s rock they can throw in there...which, BTW, they did and somehow got the rights to Led Zeppelin songs, which really surprised me! Maybe Page and Plant cut Crowe a friendly deal, if they even own the rights to their own songs at this point
Ossy 7:16:50 PM
Beautiful lovely two songs, in the past
Lizbot (host) 7:17:43 PM
@Carlos Ramone - haha, I haven't been but I'll take her word for it. The JFK assassination and the 80s oil baron family melodrama TV show are the first things I think of when I think of Dallas!
Lizbot (host) 7:17:50 PM
@Ossy - Glad you enjoyed them!
Alan Pasnyk 7:18:30 PM
@ Lizbot: Now that I'm up here in Doylestown, I'm such a lucky dawg to be able to get PRB on the FM stereo...Great Vibes coming in!!!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:17 PM
@Lee Chandler - yeah, that has happened to me with my husband. I showed him Moonstruck all excitedly because I love that movie but then realize I was the one not in the mood for it that night! There are other movies I showed him once and he didn't like or was neutral on and then watched years later and liked
Alan Pasnyk 7:20:18 PM
❤ Colleen...
Dennisons 7:20:19 PM
I love all WPRB DJs (after listening to the radio in St Louis I appreciate them even more) but Lizbot is the best at this kind of keyboardy stuff.
Lizbot (host) 7:21:13 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - Glad the signal is strong there! Oh man, I very nearly made my 2nd Weyes Blood ticket giveaway question be "In which Philly 'burb did Natalie Mering spend a large chunk of her childhood?" I typed it...then decided to use a slightly harder question. Doylestown is the answer!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:13 PM
@Dennisons - haha, thanks! Yeah, I cannot overstate how much keyboards influenced my brain in my youth and continue to to this day. Was a piano lessons kid who loved playing keyboards and always responded to keyboard music. Thankfully there was a lot of it in the 80s and a lot was odd!
Alan Pasnyk 7:24:10 PM
@ Lizbot: Yeah, I remember hearing something about her being in this area.....Love her voice and the mood of her songs...
Lizbot (host) 7:25:41 PM
@Dennisons - Also, synths and seeing Suzanne Ciani playing a Don Buchla synth on 3-2-1 Contact on PBS before we had cable kinda blew my mind cuz she wasn't a young dude with shades on in a new wave band! (thought I liked plenty of those too!) I watched a LOT of PBS back then before my brother & I finally worse my parents down and they got cable
Lizbot (host) 7:26:02 PM
Alan Pasnyk - Yup! Most of her childhood
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:26:59 PM
@ Dennisons Yes, "Crayon Angels" might be the best Judee Sill song I've ever heard, and I hadn't ever heard it before today. Thanks, LizBot!
Number 6 7:27:42 PM
Before I forget, Stockton U is having a punk poster exhibition.
Lizbot (host) 7:28:23 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - I'm so glad you discovered it on ++good and enjoyed it! I still love The Kiss and Jesus was a cross-maker best, but Crayon Angels is my 3rd favorite Sill song
Lee Chandler 7:28:38 PM
Pomona NJ Stockton?
Lizbot (host) 7:29:41 PM
@Number 6 - oh word. for how long? I wonder when I'll be out that way next...probably not til the summer!
Dennisons 7:29:52 PM
@liz yes 3 2 1 Contact was inspiring, I can imagine that being a mind blowing experience!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:56 PM
@Lee - Galloway, I think?
Alan Pasnyk 7:30:16 PM
Low Red vibes tonight....Absolutely...
Number 6 7:32:06 PM

Lee Chandler 7:33:32 PM
Yes. In my area. I’m still tuned in w/a few Stockton related things & am surprised NOBODY has mentioned it. Or maybe they did but I was on beer #3.
Dennisons 7:33:53 PM
Yay!
Dennisons 7:34:25 PM
I always wish this song was longer.
Lizbot (host) 7:35:46 PM
@Dennisons - I am really glad I just had PBS to keep me company after school for a large portion of my childhood because I saw so much great stuff on old PBS (RIP...it's so different now, post-G W Bush defunding it so drastically) And I was so jealous of friends who could watch Fraggle Rock on their Spectrum cable, but PBS was better! Remember Simon In the Land of Chalk Drawings and Pinwheel??!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:07 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - yes!
Rofflestomp 7:36:15 PM
Hiya Lizbot! This is one of my favorite biking tunes sometimes.
Alan Pasnyk 7:36:22 PM
Stereolab cheering up a dreary night in eastern PA...
Lee Chandler 7:36:26 PM
Thank You Number 6. I’m am excited to pore over it & see if I made any of them! And a ‘zine library?!? I did a few in the mid-90’s.
Lizbot (host) 7:36:45 PM
@Dennisons - Yeah, this is one of those songs that puts you in a trance. I'd happily listen to it for 10 minutes +
Lizbot (host) 7:36:57 PM
Hi Rofflestomp! Nice!
Ossy 7:38:27 PM
Great for the street lights and in the room
Lizbot (host) 7:39:11 PM
@Lee Chandler - Oooh, nice! I want to check out the zine library! There's a great one in at the Pittsburgh public main Carnegie branch and my friend, who has made a zine called High On Burning Photographs since the 90s, found not only a bunch of copies of her own zine, but ALSO was unexpectedly reacquainted with a huge chunk of her zine collection of other ppl's zines she left with a friend some time in the 2000s!
Dennisons 7:39:12 PM
@liz I don’t know Simon and the land of chalk drawings, what was that?!?
Lizbot (host) 7:41:28 PM
@Dennisons - British, originally on the BBC, black and white animated show similar to the Harold & The Purple Crayon - kid draws what's in his imagination and it comes to life. very simple line drawings. Mike Myers actually parodied its theme song on SNL in the early 90s - little boy in tub who sings "I like to do "drawrings." I guess he saw a lot of BBC growing up in Canada
Lizbot (host) 7:42:35 PM
@Alan Pasnyk - Glad to hear it! I am always especially tuned into rainy day musics
Dennisons 7:42:54 PM
@number 6 thanks for that link to the Stockton show, that looks cool!
Number 6 7:43:25 PM
Always glad to help!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:18 PM
@Lee Chandler - The last (and only) time I was on Stockton's campus was when I went with my mom to drop my older brother off at the Governor's School for the environment there in 1992! He actually MET HIS WIFE at that program!
Dennisons 7:44:24 PM
@liz I remember the Mike Myers thing, but I don’t remember that.
Lee Chandler 7:46:11 PM
Yeah, spent a lot of time there on their station - WLFR early thru late 90’s.
Lizbot (host) 7:46:34 PM
@Number 6 - I'm always talking with my husband about maybe driving down the shore for a day in winter. I used to do that with my impulsive friend Mary before she moved to Wisconsin. If I actually do it this winter, Ill have to make a stop at Stockton for that show on the way!
Lizbot (host) 7:50:11 PM
@Lee Chandler - Oh wow, I'd say my brother might've heard you on air back then, but I doubt it cuz he barely ever listened to college radio. It's funny- the way I found out he got a girlfriend while there was that he came home from those couple of weeks with a tape mix of Deee-Lite and 10,000 Maniacs, neither of which were his taste (which was largely Rush and AC/DC at the time). My theory was confirmed when I intercepted a postcard from his camp girlfriend, my now sister-in-law
Lee Chandler 7:52:17 PM
That’s funny & really sweet.
Lizbot (host) 7:53:32 PM
@Lee Chandler - If she didn't want her flirty correspondence to my brother read by a snooping little sister, she shouldn't have written it on a postcard!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:57 PM
@Lee Chandler - Super awesome sister-in-law - best thing to come outta the governor's school experience for him!
Lee Chandler 7:55:26 PM
I say it was tactical & she wanted to out their relationship.
Lizbot (host) 7:55:51 PM
@Dennisons - I watched Reading Rainbow on PBS for that perfect intro song more than anything else. I aspired to be one of the kids who talks about their favorite picturebook on that show, but alas. Years later I met a friend who was on Reading Rainbow as a kid. His parents apparently worked in television. Nepo-baby!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:36 PM
@Lee Chandler - haha, never thought of that but honestly it was a good move! He was so secretive!
Number 6 7:57:36 PM
Thanks for the weird and wonderful! BCNU!
Alan Pasnyk 7:57:42 PM
@ Lizbot: Thanks for the vibes tonight! 🎶 Have a nice evening! bcnu!
Rob from Maryland 7:58:15 PM
