In the late 1990s / early 2000s it felt pretty rare to have a band like this with a sax-blurting front man.

I was not there but I know I showed up after a Sweep / Ted Leo / Screaming Females show in Princeton in say 2007.

I listened to this record in full yesterday and it holds up much better than a lot of their contemporaries. I feel similarly about the June of 44 I have enjoyed recently. Aged nicely.

That is where I pulled it from and I think it is at least quasi-legit. Dude who runs that page is an archivist of that era but I don't know if he got 100% of the bands to agree to be a part.

one of my greatest regrets is misplacing a cassette tape I recorded of WBLS sometime in the mid-80s where DJ Red Alert was mixing "Trans Europe Express" with Run DMC's "You're Blind"

Wow. A lot of cassettes of WPRB hip hop shows have turned up online. Found a few freestyles that way I remembered vividly.

I have no dog in the Dan fight but a few of the things he wrote were hilarious.

Ya real leftovers triumph tonight

I had to take a 36 hour break from nachos / mac + cheese / Super Bowl food (including some very good babaganoj) because I was dyin'.

Egg drop soup and some bread. I have no big plans at all.

Was all set to make plain pasta tonight and then my wife went wild with the leftovers and what, I'm supposed to say no?

Great question. Last night I had some linguini with nothing on it for dinner. No oil, no butter. No spices. I needed a break!

There was Unexpected Good Pizza in my office for lunch yesterday and that was enough.

My Chinese girlfriend loves just porridge, and she would appreciate you pasta approach..

Our friends' SB party had stacks and stacks of some fine pizzas. Half cooked special order. Put in oven to heat up and finish. Good call. Sausage, jalapeno with honey is a fave. And another friend/guest there brought white bean, kale, chorizo, salt pork stew that was a golden beige velvet delight. Then I was ready for a nice light lunch & dinner Monday haha

When I went to see Ui the Sunday before last at that mysterious compound in Hunterdon County, there were like 15-20 pizzas there and almost all were untouched. Did I already mention this? Shockingly good. No idea where hailed from.

Friend that hosts/hosted big ol yearly parties and sometimes mini concerts would call the local pizza joint and order 10 pies at a time to be specifically delivered every hour for the duration. Maybe 5-6 hours or so. Kept them fresh and hot. Good call.

Cap, first time slots for DJs used to be MUCH LATER THAN THEY ARE NOW and as the lone (well perhaps one of two) non-student DJ I got the last time slot available.

2-5 am, 3-6 am, 4-7 am, I did them all.

Had a loyal crew of very drunk high school students from Hightstown who would listen weekly. They even came to a JV basketball game of mine at their school! Which is amazing.

On several fronts. I sort of hope one of them will look me up one day.

In my opinion the best stations are the one with the perfect balance of young people enthusiastic about music and comparatively older individuals who are interested in adding to that conversation instead of just resting on their laurels. WPRB's got that now and we're all working towards the same goal.

Got a text from my mom that reads "your parents were insane."

I did some 2-6 am shows on WFMU in the 90s after Upsala College went bankrupt and the campus was abandoned. I would park in a lot lined with razor wire and when I rang the bell and waited for the DJ to buzz me in, to the building it felt like HOURS AND HOURS.

No... I loved overnights. The best listeners. Bc they HAVE to listen. They are working 3rd shift, insomniacs, truck drivers... they need you!

There's a former DJ / architecture student who I got to know b/c she was always working on her grad school work overnights with WPRB as her soundtrack.

WSND FM was classical music all day until 12-2 am when they had a token freeform show for us students. I often stayed on air until 3 or 4 am because I had lots of records to play. We had callers who were listening on the south side of Chicago 100 miles to the west. Radio signals traveled far, far away in the Midwest.

Haha yeah I once was gifted a Toyota Tercel from an overnight listener on WFMU no kidding
