@Ossy - Not familiar with that NES game, but my intro to Medusa as a little kid was through Clash of the Titans, a movie whose primary impression left on me was that metal owl sidekick. Loved that owl! It had collapsing metal collander eyes!

@Lee Chandler - My strongest memory of first getting into The Chameleons was not long after I got my license, driving in a gloomy September day on Route 1 and listening to the entirety of Script of the Bridge and it being perfect. I was into some gloomy comics at the time, silly Jhonen Vasquez stuff, and I remember also reading them in my room while listening to that album

Liz - Similarity, I'm not so into Clash of Titans, nor know too much of Kid Icarus, aside from few chars and some of the 1986 NES game, lol. I also saw Medusa like beings, Gorgons, in Disney Hercules. Found out recently, that particular Medusa in Kid Icarus is voiced by badass Cree Summer!

@Ossy - I saw Clash of the Titans too many times considering I didn't even like it aside from the owl! My brother liked it and watched it a lot, and the first time I saw it I was maybe 6 and found Medusa terrifying

@Ossy - Cree Summer voiced a character or two in practically every Saturday morning cartoon of my childhood. It was really cool to see her in Pamela Adlon's show Better Things. She is not only one of the best voice actors, she has the best sense of style !

Looked up Clash Titans, and saw that's the one with Sam Worthington of Avatar fame. I haven't seen it, but now I'll check it out and that Medusa looking cute and scary. That owl looks like something off from Star Wars of C-3PO style!

I watched a ton of the online streaming Sundance Film Festival 2023 last week and here are my favorites, in case any of you wanna keep your eyes out for these in the coming months (I don't know which ones are getting distro deals and where/when, but I'm sure some of these will come to theaters &/or streamers eventually): Scrapper, Shayda, Other People's Children, Mamacruz, Girl, Slow, Joyland, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood. Honorable mentions: Run Rabbit Run, Joonam, Sorcery, La Pecera, Starling Girl

@DSM - oh yeah! I hadn't even noticed that! I read the entire program guide and watched 25 features (online Sundance is like a stay-at-home vacation for me) + some shorts programs, and those were my favs! I HATED the Kim's Video documentary. Great stores, bad doc!

@DSM - I had a feeling it wasn't gonna be good, but of course I loved Kim's video stores so I watched anyway, and man the narration is INTOLERABLE, the doc maker is really annoying to his interviewees and the whole thing has SO MANY unnecessary clips from really famous indie movies shoehorned in there pointlessly. Does not serve the story at all and the filmmaker just thinks the fact he loves movies is in and of itself so fascinating that he never stops talking about it. pointless

@Andrew Pantry - haha, I know the feeling! I bite my lip when my 14 year-old plays something I don't like, but it honestly doesn't happen that often. She's definitely absorbed a lot of my tastes, but she also has found a lot of cool stuff I wasn't familiar with on her own, some of which has made it onto my show. I had heard Mitski before she got very into her, but I had never checked out all her work until Hattie became a super-fan! She's great. and other artists I hadn't heard of at all!

@Richard Lyons - It's so fascinating and odd and wonderful. He's a great storyteller. No absurdist narration this time around, but a lot of fun. I could listen to him all day. It's just him and his housekeeper and his manager but with one brief appearance by Philadelphia's own Calvin Weston, who has drummed on Lurie projects like Lounge Lizards over the years

Who here has seen the King Crimson doc yet? I can honestly say it's one of the best music docs I've seen in years, and not just cuz I'm a fan! I had my doubts but it was really good. Some heartbreaking but really affecting interviews and footage from the last year of Bill Rieflin's life are peppered throughout the doc. That man had style and grace to the very end. He knew he was dying so figured he may as well tour and do what he loved for as long as he physically could

@Richard Lyons - there are a lot of kinda meh docs about bands I love, but this one delivered. I feel the same way about the Minutemen doc, We Jam Econo

@DSM - nice! Ive seen both live a couple times. I had one ill-fated show experience with Ladybug T at the long-defunct Conduit in Trenton. I was carless at the time and took the dinky to the NJT Northeast Corridor from Princeton Junction to Trenton to see The Lilys open for Ladybug, but everyone in the Lilys that wasn't founding member Kurt Heasely quit right before the show so just scrambled and started late and I had to leave and miss Ladybug's set, woefully, only to MISS the last SEPTA R7!
