Nothing Defines Holes Sat Jan 7 with DJ WaveyCat on WPRB Princeton 103.3 FM

@ DJ WaveyCat (host) Good Early-Afternoon and thanls for playing the Brahms. He's one of may (alas!) classical composers whose music I'm too unfamiliar with. My musical education via WPRB continues into this Saturday in early 2023, from rock to South Asian and European classical to (coming up next at 3:00 p.m. Eastern) reggae/ska.

I know you never know what musical genre you're going to dive into on WPRB! I love Brahms too but haven't listened to him as much as Debussy or Rachmaninov so it's new territory for me too! So glad you're enjoying!

Hmmmm ... I certainly recall the dramatic piano and strings flourishes now playing, just didn't recall they're from Brahms.

I keep failing the quizzes, so have been stuck in WPRB university for decades. I still love it tho!

A Quiz for the fans of 'Un-Defined Holes': Do straws work from; the straw- or the vacuum inside it? If its a true vacuum, can it be said: 'Nothing' makes straws work?

Form and space must act together for the straw to work so although they could be considered opposites they could be considered the flip sign of the same coin and one defines the other

Keeping it philosophical today

i suggest playing Emil Gilels playing Brahms solo piano music - specifically the Intermezzi, and Ballades

to continue.. just for folks who are just getting into Brahms.. one of my absolute favorite composers... but starting out your show with Scriabin was great!!

Ooooh I'll be sure to play that after a brief dive into more recent stuff!

haha..ok.. more recent stuff for solo piano i recommend: Messiaen's "Catalogue d'Oiseaux" .. you know, PRB used to have "classical" music scheduled.. it's almost totally gone which is a shame. (not that i don't emjoy other genres.. we listen to Sangeet and Serenade to a Cuckoo on prb. appreciate it all as long as it's good, lol.
