| Bismillah Khan & V. G. Jog Raga Todi Shehnai & Violin EMI 1968 Amaruddin "Bismillah" Khan (1916-2006) elevated the shehnai to the classical concert stage. Vishnu Govind Jog (1922-2004) pioneered the violin in Hindustani music (even though it had long been well established in Carnatic music). The two released four jugalbandi (duet) recordings in the 1960s. |

| Anayampatti S. Ganesan Manası Karugademi - Hamsadhvani Patnam Subramanya Iyer Water Music Of South India vol. 2 Koel Music 1999 Anayampatti S. Ganesan (born in Chennai on 22 May 1932) is a violinist and one of the few masters of the "jalatharangam". It is also present in Hindustani music as the "jal tarang", literally meaning 'waves in water'. It is a melodic percussion instrument that originates from the Indian subcontinent, known as far back as the 4th or 6th century, consisting of a set of ceramic or metal bowls filled with water. The bowls are played by striking the edge with beaters, one in each hand. |

| U. Srinivas Ghananayakam M. Dikshitar Modern Mandolin Maestro Ace Records 2008 Uppalapu Srinivas (28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014) pioneered the mandolin in Carnatic classical music. Because he was a child prodigy, he was sometimes called the Mozart of classical Indian music. He modified the electric western instrument, using five single strings instead of the traditional four doubled strings to suit the Carnatic playing style (sustained notes and musical ornamentation). |
