ya I think they are still pretty involved in a few nyc clubs

Are there any GOOD clubs left in NYC? My usual haunts up there closed before covid, unfortunately. One brought out by Pacha which brought the place very much downhill.

I used to love going to Verboten, Cielo, and Slake. Despite the latter's horrible soundsystem, I did get to see Mala and Sorrow for the first time there, and the Hypedub & Teklife crews at Verboten for my 21st birthday years ago.

I like a few of the haunts in east williamsburg

basement is pretty solid

Oh yeah I forgot about Basement. A bit out of the way though, last time I went it took an hour and a half bc the subways were closed and the busses were all messed up. Adam X came in at like 3am too and I was just bored by that point lol

ya its definitely a full night investment getting there and then might as well stay till 6 cause its gonna take hours to get home anyway

Brooklyn Monarch/Paper Box is a solid place too, and some other small clubs out there but they don't get many big names I've seen

ya its been really hard since covid of course

but ive been trying to go as much as possible to see live music and support whatever the clubs have going on

That time at Basement, I walked up a few blocks into the industrial section and waited for haf an hour in pitch black for the next bus to get me out to the Grand St station, fun times hahah. Don't have much time to go out anymore though, working friday AND saturday nights kills most plans for me.

all prices went up, a lot of clubs that didnt used to have tables now have them

Less tables more general sitting areas. Cielo and Verboten were good for that

I really hope some of those clubs slowly come back or new ones open because the options do feel limited

Seems generally expensive to operate in NYC, hopefully Philly will have a resurgence at some point. The city was booming with electronic music in the early 2010s

This year going to Philly twice for shows is more than I went out there for in the past 5+ years

ya same, hopefully as everyone starts going back to shows places will get reopened

There's a guy I know based out of Virginia/DC area who's working to get some techno and hardstyle/adjacent stuff going on down there, recently had his part in bringing some stuff to NYC this past summer

Currently working on getting a visa for an artist who has a dedicated cult following in the scene, hoping he can come out next year

its people like that who really keep the scene alive that is amazing

Yeah I finally got to meet him during a party during the summer when he brought another guy over for the first time ever, it was a blast. He's trying to bring over the guy called Geck-o, guy has a huge discography, and just put out an eclectic album with his friend d00d. I haven't listened to it yet but I've heard very good things

His party name/record label/podcast is called The Funky Cat, whole catalogue is PWYW on Bandcamp.

oh amazing. I would love to have more access to european hardstyle like that in the US. I think it draws the best crowds and makes for epic shows

I can definitely say that the crowds here are more pumped up since we don't have as much exposure to it like they do in Europe

There's only so much that can be done though since most of those DJs and artists need to get work visas, which cost a lot of money to apply for and doesn't always mean being approved

ya that is tough, then i guess it becomes a question of supporting local artists then who dont have the same exposure cause they dont have access to the euro club scene but are still playing great sets in their basements

Oh yeah that is absolutely true. I'm happy to see a lot of names who I used to see 10 years ago still being listed on posters and still regularly getting booked for parties. The three more local Acts who I saw at that party in New York through down some real bangers. An advantage of being a smaller name is being more experimental with track selection

TEED is so good

ya thats great. hopefully the club infrastructure will continue to grow and support them. the more clubs we can have the more room for smaller more experimental acts
