Yeah, I worked with a group like this over the summer and missed this type of music from Bali

An old friend of mine went to work in anthropology in New Zealand with the Māori and I can only imagine nights similar to this around a friendly fire.

Bali bells are on my list of things to get if this lotto ticket paysoff.

What an influence on western music concidering what Debussy brought to the table.

A lot of this music just rings of soul and encapsulates the most extreme of emotions so viscerally. I absolutely love imagining how other music influenced this

7seas is an indonesian band that does not have a significant online presence. They do have a youtube with 24 followers, but the album they provided to us was not produced by a record company, but rather an online type service like SoundCloud

impressive how the vocals can really stand on their own! do you have any fun facts about armenian instruments?

Much of the instrumentals that are present in this medley is the product of the Kamancha

and the Dhol

The Kamancha is a type of string instrument that is equivalent to if a banjo was played by a bow.

It is played sitting down held like a cello though it is about the length of a viol. The end-pin can rest on the knee or thigh while the player is seated in a chair.

The Dhol is a type of drum that is present at the beginning of this musical vignette, specifically, and is usually played in the backing instrumentals of a song to create a purposeful and consistent beat.

So buying and installing a pin like that for my uber cheap electric violin. :) I have owned cellos and that is a cool idea I never heard of!

Like the music on Sangeet, I feel more relaxed than usual listening to this.

So a tambala played with all fingers? Those attacks on the drumhead are so sharp though. Very cool.

Apparently the Dhol can be played with either hands or sticks, so i cannot say what the musician was using in that song.
