I saw the Raincoats reunite at Maxwell’s one Tuesday night on April 4, 1994. It was their first American show in years, to be followed by a tour with Nirvana (which never happened because of what occurred on that Tuesday).

Ari Up/Ariane Forster of the Slits died just about 12 years ago, on October 20, 2010. I remember being totally devastated when I learned of the news.

I was sitting at a hotel computer in Kentucky reading and typing about her death, crying.

I'd love to hear Flowers of Romance practice tapes, but I feel like if they existed we would have heard them by now? Also, from what I'd read about FOR, they played a few covers, tried to write a few originals but didn't complete any, and pretty much had a different line up at every practice.

I always wondered why there were no Crucial Three recordings (the band with Ian McColloch, Julian Cope, and Pete Wylie) but then I read Julan Cope's autobiography and that band existed when they were all around 12, and only practice like 4 times, and two of them plugged into a tiny practice amp, and one of them played pots and pans. I'd pictured them as this crucial missing link in Liverpool post punk til I read that.

In 2008, I saw the reformed Slits headline a NJ show featuring NJ bands like Hunchback and Screaming Females. Ari and Tessa were the only originals involved. The replacements were probably not born when the Slits disbanded years before. One of said replacements was Holly Cook, daughter of Paul Cook.
