Hi Liz Bot...love this station ID! The way they say robot cracks me up. "ro-butt"
Lizbot (host) 5:02:40 PM
Hi Christine!
Brian D 5:03:19 PM
Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:47 PM
@Christine - I made that ID many years ago and then remade it about a year ago after it was long-lost in the old studio!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:52 PM
Hello Brian D!
Christine 5:04:07 PM
It is a beloved classic. 💯
Lizbot (host) 5:04:42 PM
@Christine - I have the source material saved somewhere on my computer, but now I can't find where! I love ro-butts!
George Korein 5:05:39 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:07:57 PM
@Brian D - BESSSST. I can't believe I didn't get to this song last week, but I intended to! Of course I got to other songs on Angst In My Pants last week.
Lizbot (host) 5:08:03 PM
Hi DSM!
Brian D 5:08:13 PM
I missed a good one last week
Lizbot (host) 5:08:44 PM
@Brian D - For this song, during the Sparks-a-thon in 2008 at Carling Academy, Islington in London, my friend Ayesha & I donned faux 'staches
Lizbot (host) 5:08:56 PM
@DSM - So much more '82 to come!
George Korein 5:09:56 PM

George Korein 5:12:04 PM
Plump Pop / Root Beer Tapper vibes
Lizbot (host) 5:12:29 PM
@Christine - I was very pleased with myself that I thought of it and executed faux 'stache plan - finding a novelty shop in London at the last minute - in time for the show! Esp because I got there super-early for each day/each full live album to get a spot in front with the other Sparks nerds
Lizbot (host) 5:12:44 PM
this solo is fun
Lizbot (host) 5:12:57 PM
@Brian D - It's okay! You can make up for it today!
George Korein 5:13:11 PM
Mr. Taito is feeling delirious
Lizbot (host) 5:13:43 PM
@George - oh yeah! Man! I REALLY wish I could find an emulator for Plump Pop but that Taito Games comp didn't have it and I think it only ever came out in arcade form
Lizbot (host) 5:14:16 PM
@George - Mr. Taito/Tayto is feeling delicious + serious[ly greasy]
George Korein 5:14:21 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:15:03 PM

Brian D 5:15:18 PM
Rimshot!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:39 PM
@DSM - haha, some day maybe I gotta play Delirious into Aaliyah! and then that baby from Nina Hagen's Cosma Shiva

Lizbot (host) 5:23:58 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:24:43 PM
@George - Oh my god! HA! Tell Hattie that one. Morrissey & Johnny Marr group therapy
Lizbot (host) 5:25:43 PM
I do love that weird intro to Rio. It's the most OUT Duran Duran gets
Lizbot (host) 5:26:58 PM
@Brian D - Some people are in the dark ages - It's never been clearer than the era we're in now, but yeah, like why Kevin Rowland got skewered for that cover is beyond me. Americans esp can be uptight as hell

Saw Adam Ant on the Strip tour. I wanted to hear the rockabilly/ twang/ horns stuff more but it was pretty good show. The "Spectrum Showcase" where they blocked off half of the Philly hockey /basketball arena so all were closer to the stage. Romantics opened. Adam was doing a hybrid of striptease and Houdini water escape ha... strange.

Randy Marthins 5:54:52 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:55:09 PM
@Brian D - Yeah, Adam is still sweatily wearing his pirate-y make-up on stage and gyrating. Didn't see him pull any Houdini moves, but I guess the worst Houdini move would be an audience member running up and sucker punching him in the gut [how Houdini died!]
Randy Marthins 5:56:32 PM
Adam's best Jack Sparrow days are behind him
CARLOS RAMONE 5:58:17 PM
@liz. I remember taking my kids to see roller derby at 23 rink@ Penn and kept thinking about their shows there. One of the nights Billy Idol was playing in town and they were handing out flyers for it
Lizbot (host) 5:58:29 PM

Duran Duran was hugely popular at my school, but I was a snob. So I listened to Duran Duran in secret; guilty pleasure.
Lizbot (host) 6:06:57 PM
@Brian D - For real! I NEVER understood why anyone would pay to see a band, only to abuse them. A lot of times it's because they don't like one of the bands on the bill, but STILL. What was that movie where the band ends up playing behind chicken wire at a biker bar....from the 80s

@GEorge - haha, Meredith Monk's Key I play more than I do from this album!
Wes Steenson 6:10:03 PM
@Christine I played bass in bar bands back then as a hobby. There were debates among my musician friends about wether Duran Duran were real musicians or just pretty boys. I’m glad to see they get more credit for their musicianship now.
Lizbot (host) 6:10:07 PM
Hi Wes!

@Carlos - Nothing guilty about it! Man, I LOVED Cyndi as a kid - she really hit at the perfect age for me - and I STILL stand by her. Played She's So Unusual for kid since she was a baby! She dressed as Cyndi for Halloween one year, but I admit it was my idea!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:18 PM
@Randy Marthins - never knew that fun Clash fact!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:32 PM
@George - I bet cuz of Stranger Things
George Korein 6:13:44 PM
What? I had no idea! As a kid I was big into Joe Ely's Gallo Del Cielo

George Korein 6:14:30 PM

George Korein 6:14:54 PM
I went to the Fringe like Roger McCringe
Wes Steenson 6:15:05 PM
@Christine I was at a rehearsal facility on Front St the week before Live Aid. We saw Duran Duran’s equipment being loaded in for their rehearsal. I always remember they had a state-of-the-art at the time computer controller for all the keyboards custom made by Apple. There were only 2 in existence at the time. Duran Duran had one of them.
George Korein 6:15:40 PM
You can't chimichange me... I will go eat a chimichanga now thanks to your reminder
Christine 6:15:45 PM
@Wes, that's impressive.

Brian D 6:26:44 PM
Rik with that one last great role on Man Down. Played the lead character's dad (Rik was maybe 10 yrs older than Greg Davies ha). The dad would torture the son w pranks. RIP

Rik was crazy for Cliff Richards. No one unsterstood why. Now Echo and The Bunnymen I could understand!

Cliff had the Shadows as his backing band. For that we will forgive and thank Cliff
Number 6 6:29:10 PM
I've played the Au Pairs ID many times. I wondered what they sounded like.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:17 PM
@Brian D - I need some new TV shows. I'll check it out. What streamer/channel? I've been watching a lotta half hour comedies lately - Los Espookys, Our Flag Means Death, finished What We Do In the Shadows already. Also Reservation Dogs, which is only a half hour but is more of a drama with a bit of comedy
Lizbot (host) 6:29:33 PM
@Brian D - That would be a safe bet
CARLOS RAMONE 6:29:43 PM
@ Liz..owners bought it from a shut down hot dog eatery
Wes Steenson 6:30:10 PM
@Ms Bot YouTuber Todd in the Shadows did a One Hit Wonderland on Dexy’s Midnight Runners. That band went thru an amazing number of permutations/ personnel/ changes of direction. Practically each album is a different band with different instruments and sound.
Christine 6:30:23 PM
Oh, right. Levi's hot dogs 🌭
Lizbot (host) 6:30:34 PM
@Christine - Remember when Rik flew through a Cliff Richards billboard and over a cliff shouting CLIFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!! It is one of the primary Young Ones moments that pop into my head when I think of that show
Brian D 6:30:58 PM
Hulu has UK original Shameless. Not new but a lot of fun. And more serious, I liked that Trust series about the Getty family w Donald Sutherland as the elder J Paul Getty.
Christine 6:31:22 PM
HAH! Yes! I need to re-visit the show.
Wes Steenson 6:32:23 PM
@Brian D - Vegas is calling the odds very good for a second Sparks track on ++good tonight.
Christine 6:32:55 PM

Brian D 6:32:56 PM
Nathan Fielder of Nathan for You has that crazy new series where he conducts human "practice social experiments ". The Rehearsal. Wild
Wes Steenson 6:34:01 PM
(Don’t ask me how Vegas oddsmakers got involved in DoublePlusGood Sparks Bingo, but apparently it’s all the rage among the whales in the private rooms)
Lizbot (host) 6:34:49 PM
@Carlos - aaah, okay. I used to live two blocks from the North Star, but the period during which they booked more bands I like, I lived on the other side of the city and was carless and often walked there and I remember cursing that walk one bitter winter night and trying to hail a cab fruitlessly on the BF Parkway as the wind whipped my face at 2 am!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:58 PM
@Brian D - There ya go!
Lizbot (host) 6:35:04 PM

@Christine - Prediction correct, though wrong song
Wes Steenson 6:36:03 PM
@Liz Bot (I played at the North Star once)
Lizbot (host) 6:36:49 PM
@Brian D - Oh I already watched all of The Rehearsal. I mostly dig Nathan Fielder. I like his dry somewhat cringe-y humor, though there are moments in Nathan for You that I didn't like, I mostly am very much there for more Nathan Fielder shows.
Christine 6:37:15 PM
Rik was the funniest, Neil was the most compassionate and neurotic, Vyvyan was the second funniest/most violent (how many times did he kill Neil?) and Mike was just...there. Alexei Sayle as their landlord was a nice bonus. Long live the Young Ones! 🐹
Lizbot (host) 6:37:16 PM
@Wes - When?
Brian D 6:37:17 PM
Speaking in the Shadows vein... best show I saw at North Star = The Ventures. Sadly Mel Taylor drummer of all drummers had passed a few weeks / months earlier but his son Leon did dad well that night

Stevie Nicks took the melody of Corvette for one of her hits of the era with Prince permission. He guested on keys. . Stand Back i think
Lizbot (host) 6:44:48 PM
@Brian D - The Cola Wars were SO pressing and serious, that Billy Joel had to immortalize them in We Didn't Start the Fire alongside Belgians in the Congo and Vietnam...,and not only that, it's after he mentions the Cola Wars that he screams "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!" so clearly Pepsi vs. Coke pushed him over the edge
Dennis Lingg 6:44:49 PM

Death by shark is perfectly fine. As a kid the dog killing scene freaked me out, but I loved the Jaws guy, of course.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:30 PM
@Ossy - I LOVED Deniece Williams' Let's Hear It for the Boy when I was a little kid! THAT video was on MTV ALL the time, but I didn't like that the titular "boy" was a football player and she was sort of his cheerleader
Christine 7:01:58 PM
I wonder how many albums are titled Discipline? This is two that I'm aware of. (That other Discipline album was from 1981)

Lizbot (host) 7:06:23 PM
@Christine - I would say Fripp HAS Discipline, and God's Gift sings of the lack thereof! Fripp has SO much discipline, so allegedly drove his former bandmates up the wall, IF I'm to believe the interview snippets in the preview to that King Crimson doc, which, by the way, WE'RE STILL WAITING ON!
Ossy Hyouka 7:06:36 PM
Liz - OMFG, I LOVE "Hear it For The Boy", I hear it sometimes on 101.1 and greater than it, "Cause You Love Me Baby" is my adored song of her!! Number 6, are you getting deja vu?
Number 6 7:17:51 PM
Deja vu all over again!
Christine 7:17:58 PM
😄
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:18:00 PM
@liz luckily it almost always ends with two of my fave nights of wprb which helps immensely.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:14 PM
whoops, a certain ratio snuck in there, speaking of bass
Christine 7:18:40 PM
@Addie, you're getting through it with grace under pressure. Happy you're here!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:19 PM
This song: "Can you believe it? I saw them, once" is also a common subject of this chat!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:36 PM
@Addie - So happy to help!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:00 PM
@Number 6 - oh! Haha, I didn't hear that!
Wes Steenson 7:20:05 PM
@LizBot & Christine - have you seen any of the lecture series Fripp and his manager David Singleton have been putting up on Instagram? It’s called “ThatAwfulManAndHisManager”
Christine 7:21:25 PM
@Wes, haha no I haven't! I love that title, though.
Lizbot (host) 7:22:30 PM
@OSsy - I gotta get more Evelyn King!
Number 6 7:22:41 PM
ESG are great!
Wes Steenson 7:23:24 PM
@Christine It’s really a series of talks about ethics in business and everyday life. There are also Q+ As.
Lizbot (host) 7:23:56 PM
@Wes - jaja, I KEEP getting promos for that! Social media knows what I like! I suggested to George that we go but we didn't act on it! The name cracks me up!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦀 7:25:00 PM
Hi Christine!
Christine 7:26:10 PM
Hi Rob! 🔭 🐦 🦜 🦚 🪶 🦢 have you seen any unusual birds lately?
Wes Steenson 7:26:33 PM
@LizBot - when you mentioned Dave Thomas I thought you meant SCTV Dave Thomas. “How’s it goin’, eh?”
CARLOS RAMONE 7:27:01 PM
@ Liz..great show and chat..next week same bat time and bat channel
Lizbot (host) 7:27:04 PM
@Rob - My friend the catbird and I have been spending a lot of time together on the deck in the (mostly) great weather this week!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:22 PM
@Carlos - Thank you! haha, bat sure to tune in!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:38 PM
@Number 6 - Love ESG so much!
Christine 7:31:11 PM
@Rob, I recently did a falconing demo with a falconer and a Harris hawk named Grace. It was incredible to have the hawk swoop down out of a tree and land lightly on your glove. We also got to handle a barn owl who was pretty friendly.
Number 6 7:32:02 PM
@Liz- Their drummer is really good.
Wes Steenson 7:33:19 PM
YAY!! Upstairs at Eric’s!
Ossy Hyouka 7:33:20 PM
Liz - Yeah, Pass the Mic is throwback retro awesome like wprb! Yeah, also if they have free zoom parties with special musicians, I'll let y-all know!! They had em because of the pandemic
Wes Steenson 7:35:10 PM
I used to think this song was called “Move Out”… 😊
Lizbot (host) 7:36:15 PM
@Ossy- Ah, there were quite a few nice zoom group events like that in the early days of the pandemic. I did a Heavy Metal Parking Lot zoom screening and discussion with the filmmaker, a bunch of Fire Museum Presents shows over zoom, a Maria Bamford zoom stand up show, and a bunch more events like that!
George Korein 7:36:32 PM
it’s the kind of situation where on a jukebox they’d label it “Situation (Move Out)”.
George Korein 7:37:17 PM
RIP Anton Fier who drummed on Song of the Bailing Man
George Korein 7:37:33 PM
and Crazy Rhythms
Lizbot (host) 7:37:35 PM
@Wes - I can't imagine why??!

YAZooo0oooOOooo°!! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
Lizbot (host) 7:37:51 PM
@GEorge - Good call! RIP Anton Fier!
Wes Steenson 7:38:31 PM
@George Korein Thanks for your kindness to the old man.
Brian D 7:39:26 PM
Such a totally awesome show I'm sure
George Korein 7:39:59 PM
Thanks Wes/Liz

Wes Steenson 7:42:03 PM
I was just about to write gag me with a spoon. TOTALLY.
George Korein 7:42:20 PM
Overpowered by Funkhauser
Lizbot (host) 7:42:42 PM
@George - haha, Super Dave wasBORNE to funk
-ᎷяMΔᏞᏨØИᎢΞNᎢ-💀 7:43:12 PM
SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES 🧡💝💛
Lizbot (host) 7:43:17 PM
@Mr. Malcontent - Just one year later, '83 brought us Valley Girl, the movie, but in 1982 Frank Zappa brought us Valley Girl, the song...not gonna play it, though!
George Korein 7:43:32 PM
Ha
Dennis Lingg 7:43:42 PM
Yay, Siouxsie! It’s too bad Juju didn’t come out in 1982.
Brian D 7:43:48 PM
Read the Fripp/Crimson bio book. Well worth it! Pino Palladino was the go to replacement for John Entwistle in da 'Oo when he passed. Also on Dave Gilmour solo lp from early 80s. And a great jazz l.p. from last year or so. Jerry G played it a lot
Lizbot (host) 7:43:48 PM
@George - Funk BauHauser
Christine 7:43:52 PM
Siouxsie 🖤 🦇 🐈‍⬛️
Lizbot (host) 7:44:00 PM
@Dennis - Truth
-ᎷяMΔᏞᏨØИᎢΞNᎢ-💀 7:44:03 PM
Funny! Next week! 1983!!! Huh?! Yeah!?
Wes Steenson 7:44:11 PM
All I remember about Siouxsie Sue was her elaborate makeup…
Ossy Hyouka 7:44:12 PM
Liz - You're a badass legend for having a zoom with Maria Bamford(who's in many nickelodeon shows like Catdog and Legend of Korra). Niecey wasn't the only public radio zoom event I attended, 107.9 in 2020 had Glenn Jones for December and some other famous singer, I think in February 2021! I was also on their Halloween eve zoom party to see them for the 1st time(which was a disappointment, of getting kicked out for no reason, maybe my speaker was on unknowingly lol)
George Korein 7:44:52 PM
You, you can’t hurt me. Why? I’m Siouxsie, banshee
Brian D 7:45:01 PM
Can you play I Come From Nowhere Lizbot? Same Zappa lp Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch
Lizbot (host) 7:45:26 PM
@GEogre - Ban Sheila, take a bow
Brian D 7:45:35 PM
That is the most wprb Lizbot centric song from the l.p.
Lizbot (host) 7:46:02 PM
@Wes - And the fact that her boyfriend was named BUDGE!! Speaking of PAINTED birds!
Ossy Hyouka 7:46:05 PM
The 1982 songs are a perfect background music for Cobra Kai, since Karate Kid series martial arts kicked off in the 80s!🔥💥
Wes Steenson 7:46:50 PM
@Brian D I bought a fretless Music Man Stingray bass specifically because of Pino Palladino. (I still preferred the fretless P-bass I built myself from parts, tho)
Lizbot (host) 7:46:53 PM
@Brian D - Hmmm, I wish I had suggestion earlier, but I'm def outta time to grab that!
Lizbot (host) 7:47:02 PM
@Brian D - Good call, though!
Brian D 7:47:10 PM
We love Maria Bamford! Her Ol MacDonald Pterodactyl joke is a classic!
George Korein 7:47:22 PM
This groove is raddddd
Lizbot (host) 7:47:30 PM
@Ossy - Happy to provide you gaming soundtrack!
Brian D 7:47:53 PM
Pino Palladino. Total Welsh surname. You can tell
Lizbot (host) 7:48:04 PM
@George - Haruomi Hoso-knows great beats
George Korein 7:48:14 PM
Painted Bird is about when her drummer husband Budgie wears makeup
George Korein 7:48:31 PM
Either that or a portrait
Dennis Lingg 7:49:09 PM
@liz unfortunately Sioux and Budgie’s Creatures band released stuff in 1981 and 1983, to spite us.
Wes Steenson 7:49:31 PM
Painted Bird was also a small club / venue / art gallery in Phila.
Christine 7:49:34 PM
This mood 💯 🎹 🤖 the ro-butts are dancing 🛸
Brian D 7:49:35 PM
Speaking of Wales. BUDGIE! RIP Burke Shelley
Ossy Hyouka 7:49:57 PM
That and actually happen to watch Cobra Kai, that fits with your 82!
Number 6 7:50:22 PM
@Wes- Wasn't that Painted Bride?
TAndy 7:50:54 PM
Thanks for the show Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:21 PM
@George - Beat ya to it!
Number 6 7:51:30 PM
@Wes- Wasn't that Painted Bride?
Lizbot (host) 7:52:02 PM
@Dennis - I know! I would've happily played Creatures!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:08 PM
@Brian D - Oh for real!? I must admit, as much as I love the band name BUDGIE, AND their ridiculous posters (which I own and have near my birds), I don't actually like the band Budgie, and I tried, I really did!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:24 PM
@TAndy - Thank you for listening!
Christine 7:53:26 PM
Thanks, Lizbot! Outstanding show! 1️⃣9️⃣8️⃣2️⃣ 🎉

Lizbot (host) 7:56:35 PM
Hi Ambrose!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:18 PM
@Ossy - Oh dang! Wanna Be Starting Something is great! WAsn't gonna bring this theme into a 3rd week, but we'll see...
Wes Steenson 7:57:31 PM

Wes Steenson 7:59:42 PM
@LizBot + Number 6 - There is no Number 1. That would be telling… 👁👌🏻
Lizbot (host) 7:59:54 PM
@Wes - And I want her to break out her "Voice of Authority" machine to do some of them, esp when she wants to get firm with us!
Christine 8:00:13 PM
Talk like that may summon Rover...
Ossy Hyouka 8:00:19 PM
Stay 80s and retro broadcast Liz!! 80s music never dies like Cobra Kai and karate!

Lizbot (host) 8:01:22 PM
Have fun, Wes! I prefer a real wolf to Dick Wolf!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:04 PM
@Rob - Despite his squeaky annoying voice, catbird is my friend and I'd miss him if he left!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:25 PM
