Christine 12:29:48 PM
Thanks DJs Mike & Jerry
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:30:15 PM
The Gordonaires, once backed the King in Tupelo
Patrick Blanco 12:30:34 PM
That Cuckoo theme came on quicker than a Jim Kaat Randy Jones pitching duel.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 12:31:11 PM
Another great jazz musician gone…
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:31:30 PM
Yes, I wanted to get to the themes of the who but with the technical difficulties, I was distracted and didn't even get to all of them!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:31:51 PM
Hi Dave, yes four of them this week
Patrick Blanco 12:32:10 PM
Truly saddened by all these Passings in the Jazz Community. It’s like Al Aronowitz August Blues come to life.
Brian D 12:33:59 PM
Great guitar playing. Thanks for celebrating the lives of the greats!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:05 PM
Yes, Patrick. For sure
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:15 PM
Thanks, Brian
Christine 12:34:38 PM
What a tough week for jazz musicians and the wider community. 💔
gboss 12:34:44 PM
Huge losses. and Joey D was only 51
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:00 PM
Yes, that is crazy
Christine 12:35:45 PM
I didn't know about Joey D. passing away until you just announced it, @Jerry. Awful.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:45 PM
Someone said I said his age was 31`. I don't think so. Did I?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:03 PM
If so, I want to correct
Brian D 12:36:15 PM
Joey D only 51. Saw him play great free show at Penn State 30 years ago. Paul Bollenback on guitar. Really got me into organ/ gtr jazz
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:37 PM
Right on, Brian
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:37:42 PM
OK, thanks
Patrick Blanco 12:42:28 PM
This weeks Third Hour will feature Tiny Tim performing the entire Surrealistic Pillow Album accompanied by the Skitch Henderson Orchestra.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:43:21 PM
Hahahahha. That is definitely psychedelic!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:43:56 PM
And how bout them Phillies?
Brian D 12:45:02 PM
Loved Joey D's show on Sirius Real Jazz channel back when I had that. "Get Organized". Christian McBride and Marcus Miller had good shows too.
Stephen Higgins 12:46:51 PM
Good morning Jerry, thanks for helping celebrate the lives of these talented musicians.
Patrick Blanco 12:51:38 PM
Jerry always enjoyed visits by record industry CEOS.Unless they were named Morris Levy.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:57:26 PM
Hi Stephen, thanks!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:58:15 PM
Yes, I always tried to stay clear of Morris Levy and those types, but they were most certainly around in the record biz
Patrick Blanco 1:01:48 PM
I remember how polite your security team was whenever they read me my Miranda Warnings.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:03:10 PM
...with a frequenc where you two were on a first name basis
Wes Steenson 1:05:00 PM
Hi Jerry! Thanks for doing this tribute. Back in the 70s when I wanted to show off my stereo to my friends I would put on a CTI disc. Those records were beautifully recorded and mastered, and the discs themselves were of outstanding quality.
Joshua Kahn 1:07:29 PM
What's up Jerry - checking in
Patrick Blanco 1:07:33 PM
Mr.Taylor did a great service popularizing these Jazz Artists. At the time most Americans jazz awareness consisted of Doc Severinsen
Patrick Blanco 1:07:59 PM
Duke Ellington was reduced to playing Steel Pier.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:08:07 PM
Hi Wes, funny, I got a text this morning from a friend who told me an audiophile friend who manufactured a Bose-like speaker and always used CTI Records. You were the real deal!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:09:07 PM
Hi Josh! In the house, my son-in-law! He's a great one!
Joshua Kahn 1:10:16 PM
too kind
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:10:59 PM
Creed Taylor had an office down the hall from our friend former WPRB dj and attorney Teri
Patrick Blanco 1:12:16 PM
Let's hope the building wasn't an Architectural Monstrosity or Mr.Taylor would have received an earful
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:12:57 PM
Josh's sister-in-law and my daughter maybe delivering my first grandchild after today's show today!
Bud Burroughs 1:13:22 PM
Hello Jerry! I read a great book about the history of Impulse Records a few years ago that had a lot of Creed Taylor info in it. He was certainly an amazing guy.
Patrick Blanco 1:15:24 PM
Congratulations Jerry and your family. Please don't name the baby Third Street Jazz
Joshua Kahn 1:16:24 PM
Grandpa G!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:16:33 PM
Hi Bud, I have to read that and find out what happened with him and Impulse. I want to know why he didn't stay!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:17:04 PM
Thanks Patrick, I would have but it wasn't my choice!
Bud Burroughs 1:21:29 PM
It's called The House That Trane Built and it's a great read. If I'm remembering correctly, he left on relatively good terms, and was just looking for something new.
Bud Burroughs 1:21:52 PM
And congrats on the impending grandfatherhood!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:23:29 PM
Thank you, Bud!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:24:27 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:28:20 PM
For his next birthday he's getting an Idris Muhammad album!
Patrick Blanco 1:29:27 PM
Don't know much about these Beastie Boys but that Sabotage video is pure genius.
Joshua Kahn 1:29:51 PM
Well they clearly have good taste in music
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:44:07 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:47:17 PM

Do you know where one might find a vinyl copy of that Herb album?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:05:50 PM
GBoss, that was one of his most popular albums and should be very common on LP and CD
Brian D 2:06:09 PM
Jerry Garcia Band had some great Toussaint tunes in their live repertoire over the decades
gboss 2:06:51 PM
