Alan Pasnyk 5:13:53 PM
@ Readie: I have a very old callsign: KA3*** novice license, Morse code only.
Readie Righteous (host) 5:14:52 PM
Wow, that sounds intense, @Alan. I always thought that Ham radio would be a cool hobby...

Alan Pasnyk 5:28:14 PM
@ Readie: The old Windows had the option to stream and call up a waveform software
Readie Righteous (host) 5:29:05 PM
@Alan - was it legit, or a reasonable facsimile?
Alan Pasnyk 5:29:10 PM
@ Readie: i'm sure your Dad used to use an oscilloscope in his work during the war.
Wes Steenson 5:29:21 PM
Hi Readie! Hi Alan! I was quoting an old Jean Shepherd story about Morse code. (Shepherd was the guy who wrote “A Christmas Story”)
Readie Righteous (host) 5:29:52 PM
@Alan- I imagine so, being an ack-ack dude
Alan Pasnyk 5:30:20 PM
@Readie : Facsimile..
Readie Righteous (host) 5:30:31 PM
@Wes, that is cool - Jean Shepherd had a long-time collab with WPRB...
Readie Righteous (host) 5:31:46 PM
@Alan- ahhh, as a matter of fact, I think I vaguely remember that... I went over to the other side.... now I'm a MAC 'er
Wes Steenson 5:31:51 PM
@Readie YAAYY! So glad you remember Shepherd! Flick lives!
Readie Righteous (host) 5:32:40 PM
@Wes, Yes, I remember listening to him on WBAI a few years back....
Alan Pasnyk 5:32:58 PM
We stumbled upon his broadcast from New York on AM from N. of Doylestown when we were kids.. was the callsign WOR ???
Readie Righteous (host) 5:33:19 PM
Yeah, WOR rings a bell
Alan Pasnyk 5:33:38 PM
...On a small transistor radio! Wow!
Readie Righteous (host) 5:33:43 PM
Actually, I think WBAI was playing archival sound
Readie Righteous (host) 5:34:34 PM
My transistor went EVERYWHERE with me...what a miracle it was - portable music so long ago, way before the ipod, etc.

Alan Pasnyk 5:35:59 PM
I remember his show's theme song, a fast paced crazy musical composition, Does anybody know the name of that song??
Wes Steenson 5:36:26 PM
@Alan Pasnyk Yes! WOR from NY! Their signal was strong enough that I could listen to Shepherd weeknights in my little bedroom in NE Phila.
Readie Righteous (host) 5:36:36 PM
Oh wow, Alan, that's a tough one...google it!
Guelo <3 5:36:43 PM

Readie Righteous (host) 5:41:26 PM
Imagine seeing THEM live, wot!!!!
Alan Pasnyk 5:41:48 PM
Readie: I would like to make the "Bahn Frei Polka" a request if possible, for a show where crazy music is applicable!
Brian D 5:42:33 PM
Penn State public radio station would start their jazz show theme with "Very Special" from this lp. Then a roommate had it. And I was hooked. Found it on cd years later rearranged track listing and extra stuff. But that first time I heard it. so good
Readie Righteous (host) 5:42:37 PM
HaHa! perhaps in a future show, Alan...I have to listen first- is there a "Born Free" sample in there - lol!
Brian D 5:43:49 PM

Readie Righteous (host) 5:47:52 PM
@Bri- did the King record that one? Gotta check it out...

@Francis - what a cool birthday night watching the Perseids on a blanket with a nice picnic...and libation of course...maybe herbal essence as well? who knows!
Brian D 6:10:54 PM
Yeah very nice. Sounds like they are playing with the tuning pegs to alter the pitch while playing. Nice effect
Readie Righteous (host) 6:11:23 PM
Yeah, @Bri, I was just thinking about that...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:11:50 PM

I went to the Anchor Steam brewery in San Francisco and they gave me a tour.. OMG the hops room smelled like the place pot heads go to die. Insane smell.
Ossy Hyouka 6:23:01 PM
Big up happy birthday also, Francis!
Brian D 6:23:17 PM
Re: bending the strings with the fingers: True somewhat... but bending only makes the pitch go upward. To make the pitch go down you would have to either "pre-bend" and then release. Or alter the tuning pegs while playing. It sounded like the latter. Adrian Legg he did that
Francis 6:23:21 PM
Well - I'm moving to Sonoma in about a week - thus my beer choice. You need to try Pliny the Elder.. wow!
Brian D 6:23:40 PM
Ohhh one of my all time favorites here! Gord!

Brian D 6:26:57 PM
I saw him at the Valley Forge Music Fair in Devon that had the rotating stage. Back mid 90s. Venue no longer . But Gord rocks on!
Brian D 6:27:15 PM

I love Wreck. of Ed Fitz. Still do. Not even guilty. A pure pleasure. Terry Clements guitar line ringing through. He was in the band at Valley Forge still. Sounded like he used the same guitar and amp. Nailed that sound
ROFFLESTOMP 6:31:23 PM
I love being close to the Mann. If I wear My pro safety vest and my UPENN badge they let me go around the place. It's weird, but cool.

Very good story. Very low key guy.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:32:19 PM
Yes, Bri...and it's so much fun to sing! Yeah- on Prime- I really enjoyed it- but sad to see he wasn't always so chivalrous to the women in his orbit...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:33:48 PM
the legend lives on from the Chippewa on down...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:34:57 PM
Wasn't there an "East" and a "West" venue back in the day?
Ossy Hyouka 6:35:10 PM
Speaking of The Mann, "Uncle" Charlie Wilson was at The Dell yesterday, I wasnt there, but heard lots of it and saw clips!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:35:44 PM

Alan Pasnyk 6:37:46 PM
Great : "Mixology" :)
Ossy Hyouka 6:38:20 PM
I remember long ago at BET Awards 2013, Charlie won the Lifetime Achivement award and took it away with Snoop(Brandy Norwood's cousin), Justin Timberlake and Pharre!l Williams!
Alan Pasnyk 6:38:41 PM
...cruisin' music...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:38:53 PM
@Ossy, what a night!
Brian D 6:39:43 PM
Yes Robin Hood Dell East and Robin Hood Dell West. Both existed back in the day
ROFFLESTOMP 6:40:05 PM
Alan, the moon was awesome last nigh on the The Schuylkill River Trail. It was cool temps too.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:40:09 PM
Okay, now I remember, thx, Bri...
Brian D 6:40:45 PM
Cathy Smith, former lover of Gord was the one that gave John Belushi his fatal dose. So not exactly a great person.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:41:05 PM
Oh man! Bad one
Brian D 6:41:48 PM
Not that Gord was innocent either,... but that was 2 way street of 70s excess.
Alan Pasnyk 6:42:18 PM
@ Roffelstomp: Glad you liked it, Full moon rising...
ROFFLESTOMP 6:42:39 PM
Love this song! nice Readie! Awesome!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:42:50 PM

@ Roffelstomp: When my Mom and sister were still alive I was at the Mann music center with them outdoors, watching Jupiter rising over the city and they played Mozart's Symphony #41 the Jupiter Symphony..will never forget that sweet summer night !!!!!!!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:47:05 PM
You folks make my crazy daze better all the time.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:50:34 PM
@Alan, What my heart needed!
Wes Steenson 6:59:04 PM
Sometimes you need an idea man. 💡🤔💭
Ossy Hyouka 7:00:53 PM
Feels so Marvin Gaye!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:01:24 PM
Love Marvin!
Wes Steenson 7:01:32 PM
I’m 99% certain I played Can I Get A Witness with one of my bar bands. You could fill half your set with old Motown and the crowd would love you! 🎸
Readie Righteous (host) 7:02:08 PM
@Wes, I'm sure of it!! Happy music!
Wes Steenson 7:02:18 PM
Oh no. The Moonie station break.
Readie Righteous (host) 7:03:40 PM
@Wes, what instrument did you play in the bar band?
Wes Steenson 7:03:58 PM
Get the DVD of Standing in the Shadow of Motown. It was the same 8-10 guys played on ALL those records.
Ossy Hyouka 7:04:16 PM
Four Tops, I hear them sometimes of Patty's Sunday Butter nights, they have great songs!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:04:54 PM
Yeah, @Wes, the Funk Brothers were amazing... great documentary
Readie Righteous (host) 7:05:25 PM
And lots written by Holland-Dozier-Holland!
Wes Steenson 7:05:36 PM
@Readie I was the bass player. I was given a bass violin at elementary school orchestra tryouts. Later on I got myself an electric.
Readie Righteous (host) 7:06:38 PM
@Wes, nice! And you were a fan of Jamers Jamerson, no doubt!!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:06:49 PM
*James*
Wes Steenson 7:09:43 PM
One time when I decided to get serious about my electric bass skills I went to Sam Goody and bought Motown collections - The Best of The Supremes, Best of The Four Tops, Best of The Temptations. Put the headphones on and learned those James Jamerson bass parts. It’s a master class.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:10:11 PM
Pictures of matchstick men had me going at first.
Readie Righteous (host) 7:10:24 PM
@Wes, that is super cool!!! What an education!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:10:38 PM
@Roffle- LOL!!!
Wes Steenson 7:11:54 PM
@Rofflestomp I was so disappointed when I watched the Matchstick Men movie and Pictures Of Matchstick Men wasn’t in it.
Wes Steenson 7:15:39 PM
@Readie - after that summer, I started passing auditions. It’s not just learning those songs, it’s about how Jamerson’s bass parts lift and push the songs. He was an absolute genius. 2 bassists I think of as geniuses have been mentioned in the chat tonight- Jamerson and Mingus.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:15:45 PM
I love the Camper Van Beethoven version for personal reasons.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:16:26 PM
@Wes, The last time I went to a Towers was in Seattle close to the Science Center, Drum circle center of the world.
TAndy 7:16:29 PM
Whoops. I was listening! Been awake for the last hour
Ossy Hyouka 7:17:30 PM
Honey Cone, another Patty played. Young, Single and Free!
Wes Steenson 7:18:28 PM
@Rofflestomp I enjoy doing some hand percussion but I never got up the nerve to go to a drum circle.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:19:35 PM
Exactly the best reason to go Wes!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:21:14 PM
Yes @Wes, and Macca attributes a lot of his inspo to Jamerson..he also studied James...
Wes Steenson 7:21:38 PM
Give Me Just a Little More Time! Always liked when he scats and does a Brrrrrrippp at the end! 🤷🏻‍♂️
Readie Righteous (host) 7:21:57 PM
@Roffle, I agree!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:22:16 PM
ep @Wes- there it was!
Wes Steenson 7:23:38 PM
@Readie Re Macca YES. One of the first things I noticed when I started that close study of Motown- how much McCartney learned from Jamerson.
David Troetschel 7:23:49 PM
Oh man, loving this set! Anything from Ginger Baker would flow so well!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:23:58 PM
Yeah, the "Chairman" was a great, ardent vocalist
Readie Righteous (host) 7:24:32 PM
@Wes, yes, and he has talked about that fact and given props to James...
Readie Righteous (host) 7:24:48 PM
Thx, David, hello there!

David Troetschel 7:31:44 PM
Yea rolf, so much amazing music! Love the sutra sets too. Hardcore is a true privilege over air too!
David Troetschel 7:31:57 PM
😖
Readie Righteous (host) 7:32:18 PM
Yes, and I had to edit out the "s" word in that track...it was released with a "BEEP" in the place of it, but it sounds so lame...I used another way to edit it out...
David Troetschel 7:32:25 PM
Awesome change-up
Readie Righteous (host) 7:32:50 PM
Thx for spreadin' the word, David!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:36:55 PM
WPRB is truly a miracle!! (if I do say so)!!!
ROFFLESTOMP 7:37:06 PM
If you ever do a late show Readie, I am sure the ton of insatiably good stuff will still get blocked,
Readie Righteous (host) 7:39:27 PM
@Roffle...we do a pretty good job of editing out any offending stuff...it's a actually pretty intricate work and fun too...
Wes Steenson 7:39:53 PM
I still have Old Hag You Have Killed Me on vinyl!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:39:58 PM
I used to do the graveyard shift, but I played all jazz then,,
Ossy Hyouka 7:40:26 PM
