Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
TAndy 5:01:12 PM
My god I can't believe it's the middle of August already :(
Jon Solomon (host) 5:03:03 PM
Under three weeks until the start of school over here. Wild. Glad you're wide awake and alert, TAndy.
Ossy Hyouka 5:03:26 PM
Little girl on radio says she don't want to repeat this no more, says the same thing on every opening on Wednesday at 5pm, LOL
Jon Solomon (host) 5:03:56 PM
So she does. So she does. Hey, Ossy!
Wes Steenson 5:03:59 PM
Now you ain’t crazy, I know you ain’t crazy. #HumanRadioStation 📻
Ossy Hyouka 5:04:09 PM
Before you see, it's 2024, like 2023 never happened!
Ossy Hyouka 5:05:55 PM
All those KR something and other radio stations, she says, Wes, lmao
Brian D 5:08:06 PM
And the word "that" becomes "thot" or "thaahhhht". And the 80s "Valley Girl speak" vowels etc.... Really becomes "rully" etc ouch ya that speech affect is well...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:09:33 PM
Brian, it is something else!
DSM 5:13:09 PM
Good Wednesday to ya Jon! Glad you were able to sort out the Eat tune, that can drive a person crazy
Jon Solomon (host) 5:13:33 PM
DSM, it was a rough 36 hours. Had no idea what it was, only that is was.
DSM 5:13:39 PM
Cool that in the middle of that funky number they just murdered someone on tape lol
DSM 5:14:48 PM
The worst is when you never resolve what the song is, and then forget even the melody of what you were trying to remember, then all is lost forever
Jon Solomon (host) 5:17:13 PM
DSM, I have a song I heard on WPRB in the 1980s I have yet to ID and I may never be able to figure it out. I search for it from time to time...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:17:55 PM
Maybe I'll talk about it next mic break!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:18:29 PM
In hopes someone can help. It is one of my two media white whales.
richard lyons 5:19:02 PM
Such a great cover! Scud Mountain Boys/Pernice Prothers have a great discography :)
Brian D 5:19:34 PM
Ozzy you gotta hear the original Jon Solomon intro sometime . Same intro read by a great comic radio announcer voice
Brian D 5:21:36 PM
Or has that been retired ? I like the 2020s era intro
DSM 5:22:07 PM
Send out the signal Jon, someone out there might know, probably Brian D actually!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:22:07 PM
Not retired, just updated / upgraded one afternoon when there was a blizzard. 2017?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:22:34 PM
It was a hardcore song that had the line "rigor mortis, rigor mortis. My baby's dead, she's stiff as a tortoise."
Jon Solomon (host) 5:22:47 PM
Band was being interviewed in-studio, think they played it.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:22:54 PM
From their demo or similar.
Brian D 5:23:38 PM
Heard that punk song that references Gary Gilmore on Jen Redlights recently. Similar vein
DSM 5:24:02 PM
hmmm, doesn't ring a bell here.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:27:06 PM
Yeah, it feels like it was a pretty unknown band that happened into the WPRB studios. Best chance of ID-ing is from the band itself, I expect!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:35:07 PM
Everyone well out there tonight? Things are decent enough over here at the Ice Station.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:35:22 PM
Enjoyed a few handfuls of sungolds.
DSM 5:35:58 PM
There's an 80's movie, goofy comedy that I saw on TV as a kid once, about two dudes at an amusement park, and I think they were trying to get 2 girls while saving things from either a bad guy who might have also been an alien? And I'm pretty sure one of the two dudes was Willie Aames, but whenever I try and find this movie I can't. And it doesn't seem to be on willie's filmography... ring a bell to anyone?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:36:36 PM
My first thought was Zapped Again!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:37:45 PM
Which Willie Aames might not even be in!
DSM 5:38:17 PM
Doesn't appear that either of the Zappeds are at an amusement park, but I will delve deeper
DSM 5:40:12 PM
Ah! Zapped #1 does have a section at an amusement park and does have Willie Aames!! Jon, You have solved my mystery!
DSM 5:40:55 PM
I think I missed it thinking the whole movies was at the amusement park, must just be a segment. Netflix que get ready!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:42:24 PM
Zapped, a movie that DOES NOT HOLD UP WELL IN 2022 from the subject matter to the execution to the cast.
TAndy 5:42:30 PM
Oh HELL yeah, Pelican.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:42:51 PM
This record treated me very well this week.
Ossy Hyouka 5:43:23 PM

Jon Solomon (host) 5:50:22 PM
These two tracks run into one another on the record, couldn't *not* play them together!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:54:41 PM
High praise indeed, Ossy.
DSM 5:55:15 PM
The combo is really nice
Patrick Rapa 5:55:16 PM
weird, there was a 2014 Zapped starring Zendaya where she controls boys with an app.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:55:55 PM
Thought that was a bit, Pat. Delighted to be wrong!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:56:03 PM

TAndy 5:57:35 PM
Zappa?

gonna have to watch that one as well.

If you would have come by, Jon, I could have sold you a grease poster!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:12:10 PM
Alas.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:12:50 PM
Was too busy being transfixed by Grease on Betamax!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:14:40 PM
Patrick, do you remember who was playing?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:14:52 PM
At LiveAID, not in the ball pit...
Brian D 6:15:02 PM
Saw Grease in the theater a bunch. Eric Theater Fairless Hills. . Wore out that soundtrack. RSO!
Ambrose Hughes 6:17:39 PM
Evenin' Jon! Hello all!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:42 PM
We have the soundtrack on CD, for sure.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:49 PM
Hey hey Ambrose.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:19:47 PM
Did we discuss my idea for a Keep Honking! bumper sticker last week in the style of the Alice Coltrane one?
Brian D 6:21:09 PM
Day of watching Live Aid on tv was a fun in the hot sun summer day. July 13, 1985. We traded off between going down to the little league ballfields, walking around the grassy/creek areas of the burbs and heading to my friend's house whose parents were away to watch the many bands. In the a.m. hours before I even left my home I caught Black Sabbath reunited w/the main 4 and Judas Priest! Great fun teenage day.
Brian D 6:22:23 PM
By the time dinner-> onward rolled around it was strictly at my friend's house for AC and the last few hours. We had a radio with us when traipsing around the neighborhood to hear the FM feed of the concerts.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:22:29 PM
I recorded so much of it on VHS. Channel 17 (or was it 29 or 48) showed the same George Romero movie commercial constantly.
Patrick Rapa 6:22:40 PM
no i have no reliable memories of Live Aid from watching it live except for the big typo on the banner. later i would become a big sabbath head but i didn't know them then
Brian D 6:23:45 PM
Ya my other friend's parents recorded a lot of it. Forget if it was after the Beta to VHS switch they made ha. They held onto the Betas like trophies! Big wall of those. They had been making a cable tv movie & programs collection for a while.
Randy in Atco 6:24:45 PM
LiveAID - I was there
Jon Solomon (host) 6:24:56 PM
How was it, Randy?
Randy in Atco 6:24:58 PM
I worked backstage at Live Aid by getting a pass from the promoter because they where short on people [it became a warm bodies" situation, rather quickly Friday night: "call anyone you know, who can do anything, and they get a pass" My girlfriend at the time worked for Electric Factory, so she hooked me up.I helped with rigging on Friday [ok, I handed/carried duct tape], and catering on Saturday ... basically, working the food line Saturday morning, while I was lost someplace backstage at JFK
Jon Solomon (host) 6:25:27 PM
Incredible. Go on. The floor is yours!
Teresa Peacock 6:25:35 PM
Is this thing the 'Rigor Mortis' song you were trying to remember? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXD0c5g2nIQ
Randy in Atco 6:26:07 PM
Saturday morning, while I was lost someplace backstage at JFK Stadium, and just using my sharky nose to find the scent of anything cooking and man my assigned station, I heard that same gravelly but playful voice ask "You have a smoke, mate?" I happened to have a pack of Camels on me, and a Zippo from the yacht club I worked when was exiled in Florida. I lit it for him, he said thanks and strolled along on his merry way I didn't see Ronnie Wood or Bob Dylan, though
Jon Solomon (host) 6:26:20 PM
I don't think so, Teresa but I have bookmarked it for later listening regardless!
Randy in Atco 6:26:29 PM
Also that day: I made a grilled chicken sandwich for Madonna I told Jim Kerr [Simple Minds] his shirt was on backwards; he didn't care I helped deliver Jimmy Page's bar to his trailer - yes, enough for an entire bar, for a visit lasting 6 hours; his nickname was "The Toad"
Jon Solomon (host) 6:27:08 PM
Randy, who did you light for?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:27:11 PM
Also, WOW.
Randy in Atco 6:27:18 PM
That first part was the SECOND time I'd met Keith Richards
Jon Solomon (host) 6:27:22 PM
Remarkable.
Brian D 6:27:56 PM
Went to big shows at JFK the previous 3 years. 1982 first big rock concert was Kinks, Foreigner, Joan Jett, Loverboy, Huey Lewis and the News. June 19, 1982. Then next year was Journey, John Cougar Mellencamp, Sammy Hagar, The TUBES! and Bryan Adams. Then 1984 was the Police, Joan Jett, Madness, REM. So ... the big 1985 Live Aid was a bit steep on the ticket and hot and seemed unreachable. I don't remember tickets being announced really....
Patrick Rapa 6:29:06 PM
this is all awesome stuff.
Patrick Rapa 6:29:29 PM
I saw the Jacksons at JFK
Randy in Atco 6:29:33 PM
The first time was at a 7-Eleven in Cherry Hill; my friends & I were sitting around in our schwinn stingrays
Randy in Atco 6:29:39 PM
this crazy looking glittery hobo zombie came wandering up. He clearly wasn't used to walking outside, even with his aviator sunglasses on. The sunlight seemed to weigh on him, like a stiff wind pushing him backwards ["The sunshine bores the daylights out of me", right?]. He walked past us, dodging our bikes, and in his best Keef voice, he said "Afternoon boys" and with a hoarse chuckle he went in.
Randy in Atco 6:30:48 PM
We got scared and left!!! See, this was when Keith was getting off heroin and renting a house in Cherry Hill to dry out Apparently, Keith had come to 7-Eleven to get some smokes, but only had a $100 bill and no ID, so the cashier wouldn't break it for him. Mick came by, they got the smokes, then went to a nearby bar for the afternoon Yes, because seeing Keith Richards - in real life - scared the shit out of me, I missed meeting Mick Jagger as well by 5 minutes [I'd say]
Jon Solomon (host) 6:31:52 PM
...wow...
Randy in Atco 6:32:49 PM
JFK shows: YES & frampton, Skynyrd & Frampton, Genesis, stones twice, The Who/the clash, the police
Randy in Atco 6:34:01 PM
Saw Bowie's glass spider show at the vet
Ambrose Hughes 6:34:09 PM
@Jon, like this track!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:26 PM
Glass Spider I saw at the Meadowlands. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam was one of the openers. What a time to be alive.
Randy in Atco 6:35:53 PM
Bowies serious moonlight at spectrum - I'm in the modern Love video (sort of) I'm next to the girl Bowie throws the flowers to; check out the Sigma Kids documentary on YouTube
DSM 6:40:11 PM
Sounds like we need a weekly "Randy's Tales" segment on wprb!
DSM 6:40:25 PM
that Can jam was great
Brian D 6:40:32 PM
Neil Young getting back wCrazy Horse @ Spectrum 1986. Tailgate scene in the usual "Pole #19" area of JFK Stadium parking lot. Wild. Wilder inside the show. People think of Neil and acoustics, gentle 70s radio sometimes... but... The Horse brings the beast. And some rowdy ass Neil fans. First time we ever had really close seats on the floor. Actual seats not Gen Adm. Well... seats became rickety step-stool ladders. And we were all hmmm.... "Low PH" scientists that night ahem.... wild wild night.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:40:37 PM
Randy, I think you host this show now.
Brian D 6:40:51 PM
Billy Talbot played Keytar Bass for the first couple songs.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:41:31 PM
My mom took my sister to see Sting at Stabler Arena and when everyone stood on the wood stadium seats she somehow got trapped in hers.
Brian D 6:41:54 PM
I remember a short statured gentleman that worked security @ The Spectrum. Saw him many times in action. Total pro at breaking up any trouble before it happened and keeping things just this side of safe/cool.
richard lyons 6:42:33 PM
This is a nice chill version of the classic Verlaines tune!!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:42:52 PM
Richard, turns out there's a whole comp of classic NZ covers from '09 this is on. Had no idea.
richard lyons 6:43:12 PM
Oooo I don't have this 2009 comp!!
Brian D 6:43:22 PM
RFK Stadium in Wash DC had that "too perfectly measured" circular engineering I guess. When 40-50 thou Deadheads got to dancing the whole stadium levels would bounce a bit. Not a low ph induced effect, the sober ones confirmed.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:43:35 PM
Link at the ready for ya - https://morrmusic.bandcamp.com/album/not-given-lightly
richard lyons 6:44:12 PM
I thought I was the only one late to that comp party.
richard lyons 6:46:41 PM
I bought the Vintage Crop album. I am really playing the heck out of it along with the newest Lewsberg and the Pinch Points discography
Brian D 6:47:05 PM
Speaking of (Happy 80 Jerry) Dead, I went to the last show ever at JFK in 1989. No it was not the Dylan and Dead show as many misremember it (that was almost exactly 2 years earlier in 1987). Went to both and both were highlights of my concert going experience. Roaming the grounds, getting sprayed by the firehoses to cool us down. I did not notice the broken down nature of JFK really in 1989.... always seemed like a slightly crumbling but lovable mess heh.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:47:38 PM
That's all good stuff, Richard.
Brian D 6:48:48 PM
And another JFK memory, some bleachers way up were just concrete rows to sit on. And some had this ancient plastic maybe fiberglass rows. The plastic would shed off and leave micro splinters in the skin. Yeah ... not a lot of upkeep there.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:48:52 PM
I don't believe I ever went to JFK, but wasn't a Lollapalooza held next to / where it used to be?
Brian D 6:49:23 PM
Yeah the dirt left over or the dirt of the parking lot left over maybe?
Brian D 6:49:45 PM
The Rage Against nude, silent, no songs incident.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:50:23 PM
Was that the same year as Boredoms? I remember Boredoms!
Brian D 6:50:25 PM
I think there was a Monsters of Rock circa 1988 there. Van Halen, Metallica, Scorpions and others...
richard lyons 6:51:34 PM
Thanks for the link! Interesting it's on a German label.
Brian D 6:53:58 PM
I only saw one touring Lolla and that was Waterloo Field way up in Jerz. Stanhope. Good place to see a show. Grassy. It was year 2 I think... 1992 w/Lush, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam way early in day Ministry, Jim Rose Circus, Ice Cube, Chili Pepps. Was not really into any of the bands or knew much about some. But I remember Ministry really kicking a and standing out. Cover of Sabbath Supernaut. By Chili time it was dark and cooler and a never ending quest for bonfire as they kept being put out.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:54:36 PM
I went to Stanhope the year before. Nearly got run off the road by a tour bus.........
Jon Solomon (host) 6:54:42 PM
.....that Ice-T was driving!
Brian D 6:54:52 PM
Ahh the Jane's year eh?
Brian D 6:54:58 PM
Nine Inch
Jon Solomon (host) 6:55:13 PM
Yep. Rollins Band, Body Count, Living Colour, etc.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:55:38 PM
Got pulled over by the police on the way there AND on the way back (no tickets).
richard lyons 6:55:54 PM
This would be a goodie for DJ ESO :)
Brian D 6:56:32 PM
Hmm cool sounds like the Andrew Weiss bass, Sim Cain era of Rollins band. Great lineup
Jon Solomon (host) 6:57:50 PM
Brian, it was so dry the shirt and hat I wore never truly got all the dirt out of either.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:58:13 PM
(Bowdin College hat and bootleg Big Black shirt. Why do I remember this?!)
Randy in Atco 6:58:32 PM
"Sounds like we need a weekly "Randy's Tales" segment on wprb!" I'll see what I can do
Brian D 6:59:25 PM
We listened to WTSR weekend radio show back in the day. DJ was named Claudette maybe? Not great with the exact dates... we went to a Reggae Sunsplash at the smaller Waterloo Village "shed" venue in the park one year. Then we heard her announce it again the next year, same place. It is a lonnnggg azz drive from L-town, Bucks Co kids. So.. we get to Waterloo. Parking lot suspiciously contains plain cars, no stickers, no rasta colors, no hacky sackers. We go to ticket office. Nice person asks...
Brian D 7:00:29 PM
... Oh you're here for THIS show? Confused. Solved.... it was a Regis and Kathy Lee concert. Not Reggae Sunsplash. Thanks WTSR! Gas was less expensive oh well. Fun ride, explored the area, found some things to do....

I gotta go back and read the Buttholes chapter of Our Band Could be Your Life soon. Love that.
DSM 7:08:08 PM
Yeah been enjoying these stories in the chat tonight! Thanks for sharing!
DSM 7:09:23 PM
Prey was good! Led me to watching Predators to stay in the mood, which is less good, but amusing to hear Adrien Brody do a gravely Batman voice. OG Predator remains my fave for sure.
Brian D 7:09:40 PM
And tonight is... Brooklyn Style Pizza Delivery Night! *waits for knock..... Square pie, chunky tomato, fresh mozz, basil, olive oil. Dominick's (originally Trenton) our local central Bucks location.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:10:10 PM
I had ~14 pieces of a Brooklyn pie before I watched Prey (with a 4.5 mile walk home in between).
Jon Solomon (host) 7:10:29 PM
DSM, I have a weird soft spot for Predators. The Predator rotted.
DSM 7:11:15 PM
Also eating a Dominick's pizza tonight, from Washington Crossing location tho, not sure if it's related Brian.
DSM 7:12:00 PM
Don't get me wrong, I fully enjoyed Predators haha.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:12:07 PM
Any good, DSM? I have been right by there a couple times recently.
Brian D 7:12:34 PM
If we ever get back to plane travel again... Brooklyn Pie makes GREAT stash-in-carry-on plane food. Did it a bunch over the last 10-15 years. The square slices fit perfectly in a big ziploc fridge bag. 4 at a time. No airport food ever... solved!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:13:35 PM
Oh, the "KR" was for Keith Richards. Aha!
DSM 7:14:27 PM
Just got a plain old cheese pizza, Jon, and it is pretty good! Sauce veers savory not sweet which I prefer. Quality cheese, and a good crust, not dry, which happens out here sometimes on this side of the river.
Patrick Rapa 7:14:40 PM
thanks for the book rec, Randy
Brian D 7:14:52 PM
DSM, yes indeed they are! Trenton, Wash Cross, Richboro, Dublin. There was an Oxford Valley not sure if it still exists tho. It has to have the certain font and "Original" in the name. And the Dominick's spelled with a "k" at the end.
DSM 7:17:19 PM
Good to know! There was a Dominick's in Flemington when I was growing up, wonder if they were also part of the fold. Long gone now I believe.
reese 7:17:33 PM
You're all making me homesick and hungry for east coast pizza.
Brian D 7:17:57 PM
After searching I think the only main ones now are just Washington Crossing, Richboro and Dublin. Dublin is afiliated maybe started by an employee that worked at Richboro.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:18:13 PM
Reese, where are you located and what's the pizza scene over there?
reese 7:18:55 PM
I'm in Seattle and the pizza scene is kinda sad.
Brian D 7:18:56 PM
DSM from their site orig owner and starter of it all Vinny (RIP) had pizzerias in Clinton, Somerville, Newton, Flemington and Ewing
Jon Solomon (host) 7:19:12 PM
Reese, I liked Serious Pie when I was there!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:19:30 PM
Need to look up the names of the other two spots we hit...
reese 7:19:53 PM
Ah, now Serious Pie is a good choice! Fancy stuff though when you're missing east coast pizzas.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:20:06 PM
Gabbiano by the pinball museum?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:20:22 PM
Also, Rocco's?
DSM 7:20:28 PM
That was once a serious Pizza empire! Good job Vinny.
reese 7:20:32 PM
Hmmm. I know where the pinball museum is but haven't been to Gabbiano. Will need to check that out.

Brian D 7:21:32 PM
Mentioned a Japan comp last year or before that sounded like it had WPRB written all over it. Another one for 2022: " VA – Anthology of Experimental Music from Japan " . I bet there are half a dozen DJs here interested in that

Brian D 7:24:49 PM
New Meridian Brothers is really fun too!
Jeff Jotz 7:25:38 PM

i'm lactose intolerant. all pizzas are pizza haunts
richard lyons 7:27:27 PM
One of my favorite local pizza places is Pizza Schmizza

https://schmizza.com/
Kristin Belz 7:27:52 PM

Another one by Yugoslavian guitarist magician of sound Branko Mataja came out recently " Traditional and Folk Songs of Yugoslavia " a reissue. 2nd this year of recordings he did in the 70s that are getting released / re-released now. So crystalline and beautiful
Jon Solomon (host) 7:29:08 PM

Jon Solomon (host) 7:29:25 PM
Lovely's 50/50! - https://lovelysfiftyfifty.wordpress.com
Jon Solomon (host) 7:30:10 PM
The "vegan metal slice place" wasn't as good as Scottie's. Name escapes me.
Kristin Belz 7:30:43 PM
this makes me realize i gotta make a ranked list of pdx za. after all we're suppposedly the best in the country or something?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:31:03 PM
Eater had a good list I used.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:31:24 PM
But I'm sure many places have arrived and departed since I visited.
Brian D 7:31:46 PM
This was crazy good too : "VA – The Rough Guide to the Music of Yunnan" . Area way down in SW China near Tibet. Very cool sounds.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:32:02 PM
I got a message from a WPRB DJ in Philadelphia over the weekend asking for south Jersey pizza suggestions and I was delighted with how much they liked the place I recommended they ended up choosing.
richard lyons 7:32:18 PM
Yes Lovely's is great! I can't eat flour anymore so my options became somewhat limited
Jon Solomon (host) 7:32:36 PM
I follow Lovely's on Instagram and always am placing hypothetical orders in my mind.
Brian D 7:32:59 PM
And file under WPRB dj's salivating as well: " Would It Sound Just As Bad If You Played It Backwards? A Collection of Sounds from the Studio Eksperymentalne Polskiego Radia (1959-2001) Vol. I & II " https://otherpeople.bandcamp.com/album/would-it-sound-just-as-bad-if-you-played-it-backwards-a-collection-of-sounds-from-the-studio-eksperymentalne-polskiego-radia-1959-2001-vol-i

My family is going to western England next week and I have instructed them to hit up my favorite 3 singles for 5 pounds store and ask the owner to find me some post-punk gems.
Brian D 7:36:59 PM
Armenian American musician really cool sounds too: Souren Baronian – The Middle Eastern Soul of Carlee Records
Sebastian Petsu 7:37:32 PM
all this pizza talk in the chat and NO pizza-centric tunes on the air? For shame.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:38:07 PM
Sebastian, I don't know how it happened. If I'd known I would have planned (panned?) accordingly!
