David Shortell 3:46:41 PM
Am I to infer that “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” was once a London stage musical? I know the movie was by Eon Productions, that also makes the James Bond films. Apropos, considering it was Ian Fleming who wrote the children’s book! In fact, Gert Frobe, who played “Goldfinger”, also played the villain in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”!

Was gonna suggest something from the Disney Alice in Wonderland soundtrack for a future show. Yesterday was the anniversary of the world premiere of the film. EnterWebs says: Alice in Wonderland is a 1951 American animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the Alice books by Lewis Carroll. The thirteenth release of Disney's animated features, the film premiered in London on July 26, 1951, and in New York City on July 28, 1951.
Richard from Rocky Hill 4:05:37 PM
@ Esoterica (host) Another 5-star Filmscape show! Did you know "As Time Goes By" was originally written to answer the implications of Albert Einstein theories of relativity? That's right: the unsettling notions that space bends, that time is not absolute, etc. The original song had an intro ending: "We're getting rather weary/ Of Mr. Einstein and his theory," continuing then into the main song with "But ... You must remember this/ A kiss is still a kiss/ A sigh is still a sigh ..."
Esoterica (host) 4:05:39 PM
oh nice, mr. m, i will try to get it on for ya

Richard from Rocky Hill 4:08:10 PM
@ Esoterica (host) Of course, when "As Time Goes By" became generally popular song -- and especially its use in the classic movie "Casablanca," the original intro was dropped into the black hole of forgotten Tin Pan Alley lore ...

@ Esoterica (host) Credit to Lisa Randall, Harvard (and one-time Princeton) theoretical physics professor. In her book Warped Dimensions, she cites the original opening of Herman Hupfeld's 1931 song: "This day and age we're living in/Give cause for apprehension/With speed and new invention/And things like fourth dimension/Yet we get a trifle weary/With Mr. Einstein's theory ..."
