@Alan - Those Webb satellite images are colored digitally after the images are taken, right? I thought satellites could only capture black and white or infrared/ far infrared / near infrared wavelengths. I wonder how open to interpretation the colors are.

I was curious about that too.

@Alan - ah, I should’ve practiced my German more with my German cousins but all they taught me were curses

From what I understand is that the Webb is an infrared telescope, so the colors are assigned ones based on wavelength...But I'll look into that one, Good Question!..

@Christine / Alan / et.al. - One of the times I saw Laurie Anderson perform was at the Institute of Contemporary Art at UPenn around 2002 or so and she mentioned that, as the first artist-in-residence at NASA, she bugged various NASA types for an answer to that same question because the Hubble images had recently been released before her residency and she said she didn’t get a straight answer! But yeah, I think it makes sense that they translate the varying wavelengths to colors on our spectrum
