Actually, I once had a Carpenters album. Which I got rid of after I graduated high school. Which the theater that was showing the Karen Carpenter movie that was soon withdrawn was playing

funny how a song about being on top of the world has been torturing you. crazy mixed up world...

Fortunately the bathroom at the theater didn't have the music piped in, so I could survive the horror

Maybe they are American Goldfinches? They are little, kind of fast, and are largely yellow (though their wings are largely black/dark)
