I learned many years later Jimi just threw that line about "never hear surf music " in there as a supportive word to his friend Dick Dale. Not a criticism. After hearing Dick was diagnosed w/cancer Jimi said that bit, worrying that the king of the surf guitar was in danger of leaving the world.

There's a double speed version where the studio dialog turns into normal speed.

Great little read "I Want My MTV". Highly recommended. Blurbs from tons of people from the founders, top brass, VJs, music, stars, directors of videos on down to the many other people involved. Crazy that it worked. And Mike Nesmith of the Monkees is an important factor in the germination of it all

It was a cluster-f when it launched. Things just barely worked if at all.
