ROFFLESTOMP 3:40:49 PM

Esoterica (host) 3:41:43 PM
totally true re: jon
ROFFLESTOMP 3:43:42 PM
The wonderful way of things.
Jon Solomon 3:45:23 PM
Esoterica, did you watch Pistol?
Esoterica (host) 3:46:08 PM
yes i did
Jon Solomon 3:46:46 PM
Did you enjoy it? I overall did not unfortunately.
Esoterica (host) 3:48:25 PM
I think I have one more episode. I thought Angus Boon did a good job as Lydon. The actor from Queen's Gambit is ok who plays Malcolm. I liked Maisie Williams. Now of course I only admired the scene from across the pond, so as far as accuracy...
Esoterica (host) 3:48:40 PM
yeah just ok
Esoterica (host) 3:49:43 PM
it's hard when you know young actors are trying to capture another era and it s an sometimes insurmountable job to get it right. i actually like the alex cox sid and nancy film
Esoterica (host) 3:50:06 PM
what didn't you like about it, jon
Jon Solomon 3:50:08 PM
I thought it would have been a much better show if it put the Sex Pistols in the background and had the characters reacting to what they did instead of showing everything. The historical footage was terrific though!
Esoterica (host) 3:50:30 PM
i can see that
ROFFLESTOMP 3:50:31 PM
Please just me tell she is still an assassin of some sort. I did not watch that.
Esoterica (host) 3:50:48 PM
maisie? haha
Jon Solomon 3:50:49 PM
Some of the dialogue was very....expository.
Esoterica (host) 3:51:12 PM
she plays punk icon jordan
Jon Solomon 3:51:22 PM
Steve Jones was sort of the Seinfeld of the whole thing, the least interesting character the whole show is built around.
ROFFLESTOMP 3:51:43 PM
Sex Pistols? Okay, everyone dies sorta. Got it.
Jon Solomon 3:52:17 PM
My friend Mary said she felt most of the people involved production-wise seemed like they wished it was about a different band.
Esoterica (host) 3:52:19 PM
right, jon
Jon Solomon 3:53:14 PM
I went back and watched one TV appearance the Sex Pistols made and it was impressive how they re-created it shot-by-shot and gesture-by-gesture. So clearly the attention to detail was there but overall I struggled to reach the finish line.
ROFFLESTOMP 3:53:25 PM
"a different band" Hmmm...
ROFFLESTOMP 3:54:35 PM
A train wreck is a train wreck. Just sayin'..
Esoterica (host) 3:56:00 PM
i get you, roffle

ROFFLESTOMP 4:08:04 PM
Yes, I did not know there was another version. Now It is on my list though!
Esoterica (host) 4:08:35 PM
now i need to see the cage version back to back with valley girl
ROFFLESTOMP 4:09:05 PM
Good Idea, Sounds worthy.
DSM 4:09:10 PM
I’ll watch any Cage movie tbh
Esoterica (host) 4:09:34 PM
sounds like roffle isn't a fan lol
Esoterica (host) 4:09:52 PM
i can't rewatch leaving las vegas, too sad
ROFFLESTOMP 4:10:31 PM
I love Cage. He is nutso. That works.
DSM 4:10:35 PM
Yeah that one is sad, but he puts in a great and weird performance
Esoterica (host) 4:11:00 PM
true
ROFFLESTOMP 4:12:35 PM
I will not buy his movies, but I will watch them at a freiends house. :)
DSM 4:13:16 PM

Esoterica (host) 4:14:27 PM
aw sweet, dsm
ROFFLESTOMP 4:14:36 PM
Wow, they still were making 45's then? Awesome!
Esoterica (host) 4:14:46 PM

Esoterica (host) 4:15:22 PM
love this song, never gets old
ROFFLESTOMP 4:15:52 PM
Very special to me too for sure.
DSM 4:16:12 PM
It always sounds fresh.
Esoterica (host) 4:16:30 PM
yeah
Brian D 4:18:59 PM
45s definitely existed in 1982 yes! Very much so
Buck Wild 4:19:18 PM
Ola!
ROFFLESTOMP 4:19:36 PM
Love you Brain!
Esoterica (host) 4:19:39 PM
hola! buck
Brian D 4:19:42 PM
Wave? Where?
Brian D 4:21:02 PM
I probably bought my last 45 right about that time. 1982-83.
Buck Wild 4:22:25 PM
🤷‍♂️
Esoterica (host) 4:22:28 PM
for me prob 1979
ROFFLESTOMP 4:23:10 PM
I have spent some time in Mexican bars in the San Fernando valley. I bet this was on the juke box!
DSM 4:23:27 PM
I remember a 45 section up until at least 88
Esoterica (host) 4:23:40 PM
cool, roffle!
Brian D 4:23:56 PM
Cuban bars maybe but i bet the Mexicans could appreciate this too
Esoterica (host) 4:24:58 PM
right, bri
ROFFLESTOMP 4:25:46 PM
Cuban? Very cool Brian. I'm from Jersey... lol
Brian D 4:26:38 PM
Yeah about 1981 or so it was all full albums in the collection. Records first then the cassettes won out with their portability. And blank cassettes with their ability to capture all my relatives and friends ' older siblings collections!
ROFFLESTOMP 4:26:57 PM
I worked with tons of Mexican folks though inCA.
Brian D 4:28:22 PM
Yeah Buena Vista Social Club is Ry Cooder dream project of getting Cuban all star musicians together. Most not known in the USA
ROFFLESTOMP 4:29:52 PM
Gosh, I just know Miami Sound Machine. Works for me in my limited way though.
Brian D 4:30:56 PM
And for the electric guitar side of Cuban things check out Ry's album with Manuel Galban. Like Surf meets Cuban and Blues etc. Great take of Prez Prado's Patricia on that. Sublime elec gtr tones
ROFFLESTOMP 4:31:46 PM
So cool! Thanks Brian!
Brian D 4:33:08 PM
I Never really knew anything about Cuban musicians until Ry put those lps out. And then some other lps of those musicians came out after Buena Vista. Put them on the map at he end of their lives they got some recognition
Esoterica (host) 4:33:15 PM
thanks for that info, bri!
Brian D 4:34:30 PM
Introducing... Rubén Gonzalez. That was one i was led to thanks to BVSC
ROFFLESTOMP 4:35:06 PM
@Brian - That is a story for the ages. Somuch lost across time.
Tom S 4:35:35 PM
killer show today ! and still a bit more to go keep it coming
Esoterica (host) 4:37:50 PM
aw thx, tom!!
Esoterica (host) 4:38:02 PM
i will do my darndest!
Brian D 4:39:31 PM
Also led me to "A Todo Cuba le Gusta" by Afro-Cuban All Stars. Juan de Marcos González is leader of that and he was involved in BVSC etc. That lp has it all. Ry Cooder is on 1 song. Think it came out same year as BVSC
Brian D 4:39:41 PM
OUCH!!
Grink Ashman 4:40:21 PM
Hey hey, again you blow my mind. Yesterday would have been my mom's 90th. She loved that Fame album, Killer bass on that! She also love Buena Vista, and turned me onto it.
Brian D 4:40:52 PM
RIP Neil Innes. What a great mind and voice. Nailed that Lennon in a not so "Nasty" way
ROFFLESTOMP 4:40:57 PM
A Rickenbacker in anyone elses hands.
David Shortell 4:41:27 PM
I once saw “Watermelon Man” on ABC’s “The 4:30 Movie”, popular afterschool viewing for us kids back in the day. I wonder how much of the movie they censored.
Brian D 4:41:51 PM
Regret not seeing Neil Innes when he played in Bordentown last decade. Maybe more than once....
Esoterica (host) 4:41:59 PM
i bet they may have censored some, but man SSBBS would never have made it to tv, david
Esoterica (host) 4:42:26 PM
aw yes, bri
ROFFLESTOMP 4:42:41 PM
Cat Stevens. Only guy that can make me cry a bit.
Esoterica (host) 4:43:35 PM
i get that, roffle
ROFFLESTOMP 4:44:48 PM
I do love your show. Makes good sense to me.
DSM 4:44:59 PM
Did it always have this beat? Digging this beat!
Esoterica (host) 4:45:17 PM
thanks kindly, roffle:)
Esoterica (host) 4:45:35 PM
no it didn't, well, not the original, dsm
Esoterica (host) 4:46:26 PM
maybe you are thinking of the johnny nash version?
David Shortell 4:46:45 PM
When Neil Innes played at the Bordentown Record Collector, I opted instead to see him for free at the Toms River library. He regaled us with a rendition of “Brave Sir Robin” and an account of observing the “Revolver” recording sessions.
DSM 4:47:51 PM
Ah the Cool Runnings mix! I like
Brian D 4:47:58 PM
Jimmy Cliff has just gotten better and better. That 2012 lp he put out was excellent. Rebirth. So good. Voice is in top form.
Mary Jones 4:48:43 PM
Hi—taking a break from work to just say how awesome the show is this week, especially all The Valley Girl nods.
ROFFLESTOMP 4:51:51 PM
Bud Cort Was my idol as a youth.
David Shortell 4:51:51 PM
I think Jimmy Cliff’s version of the Johnny Nash song came out in 1993, not 1969. TCM showed the 1959 Nash star vehicle “Take a Giant Step” not long ago.
David Shortell 4:52:14 PM
I heard that after “The Dark Crystal” bombed, Henson was pressured to make his next film with people appearing in it. Hence, “Labyrinth”. Jennifer Connelly was actually 14 when she acted in it.
richard lyons 4:53:15 PM
Thanks for the great music ESO!
Esoterica (host) 4:54:52 PM
aw thx, richard!
Esoterica (host) 4:55:24 PM
aw so i was wrong about it being henson's directorial debut, david.
ROFFLESTOMP 4:55:54 PM
Love you Esoterica, have the very best evening.
DSM 4:56:53 PM
Thanks Esoterica, fun show!
Jon Solomon 4:56:56 PM
This is a safe space for me to admit I am A Person Who Has Never Seen Labyrinth. Perhaps I will rectify this week...
Esoterica (host) 4:57:00 PM
ah thanks, roffle!!
Esoterica (host) 4:57:04 PM
you too!
Esoterica (host) 4:57:23 PM
i have only seen bits and pieces, jon
ROFFLESTOMP 4:59:02 PM
Never saw the full cut of Labyrinth. I'm good. It will come arournd I bet.
Brian D 4:59:09 PM
See y'all later
Mary Jones 4:59:14 PM
I’m not saying Labrynth is high art, but it’s David Bowie, Muppets, Terry Jones, and Brian Froud’s Faeries book all in one place, and I love it, it had a huge impact on me as a little kid.
Esoterica (host) 4:59:19 PM
see ya bri!
Esoterica (host) 4:59:33 PM
thanks everyone!:) see you tomorrow at noon
Brian D 5:00:03 PM
Ya loved Labrynth and Dark Crystal both. Right up my alley as a kid
Esoterica (host) 5:00:13 PM
thanks for update david on cliff. i will correct.
David Shortell 5:00:41 PM
The Rutles debuted in a "Rutland Weekend Television" skit no more than three minutes long, a few years before "All You Need is Cash" showed on NBC. A different actor played Stig orifginally.
Esoterica (host) 5:02:30 PM
ok thanks, david! stay tuned for jon! bye, all
