@Colin- yeah. Annual convention of furries called Anthrocon. We happened to be there visiting a friend during it and there were furries all over downtown and by the waterfront, along with various assorted oddballs and musicians playing ocarina and accordions, so we all joined into a spontaneous sing-along of Pete Seeger’s Talking Union with a buncha furries- A magical evening!

Hi TAndy! At the con? I’m glad furries have a place to go every year and Pittsburgh largely welcomes them with open arms. Seems like they were having a blast. We even witnessed a furry wedding last night by the waterfront! One boat of frat-bros pulled up to the river walk and barked at them, but other than that, the public there seem to enjoy their presence!

Yeah! They've been going for years now. I can't do cons though, even small gaming cons like Too Many Games. Too many people, and I rush through things too quickly

My husband & I actually inadvertently crashed anthrocon when it was in Philly at the Wyndham Hotel on the Parkway about 17 years ago! It was the year before they started having it in Pittsburgh. Prior to that it was in Valley Forge, randomly.

They used to have a convention in Atlantic City right?

We saw ppl in tails and followed them to the source, walked right in the hotel, not realizing it was a ticketed event with weekend passes and all that, (these days they wear lanyards and badges, so it’s a lot more obvious,) and ran into not one, not two, but THREE musician friends we know, none of whom we knew were furries!

@TAndy - I never heard about the AC cons, but possibly. I just heard it was in Valley Forge at least once in the early days, then once in Philly, and it was gonna be in a Different city every year, but then they had such a warm welcome in Pittsburgh decided to just keep it there every year

@Jimbot - Funny you should ask, because the friend I was visiting in the burgh is an old friend who used to live in Philly a long time ago and she and I and a couple other friends staged a little impromptu robot parade once! 🤖

@jimbot - and today I just saw the quilt she made out of all her old patches and t-shirts, including the patch she made circa 2003 commemorating our robot parade! I painting 0’s and 1s on clear acrylic sheet in digital font. We ended up walking by skirmish in our neighborhood and the people involved all stopped and stared at us, not sure what to make of us…and that’s exactly the reaction we aimed for
