Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:02:29 PM

Really liking this percussion. Dave the Obscure played an excellent track this morning that began and ended with konnakol, and had it threaded throughout.

Mr.Perkins 88 years young.Younger than most of my jokes.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:37 PM
Patrick, Brian, Christine, you are students of radio. A friend/listener/former customer broke my heart when he reminded me how few people listen to the radio.
Stephen Higgins 12:19:49 PM
BP retired! Wow, bummer. Although his play list had really shortened lately. I actually stopped listening on regular basis a while ago. He was the man for a long time! But, I couldn't handle another Toots Theilman harmonica solo!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:58 PM
Your jokes are definitely older than that
Stephen Higgins 12:20:38 PM
This David Murray piece is sensational!
Patrick White 12:20:45 PM

Patrick Blanco 12:43:45 PM
I sent Jerry’s audition tape to WRTI as a replacement for BP.The program director was spotted running down North Broad Street screaming.
Patrick Blanco 12:44:11 PM
Jerry is too talented for corporate radio.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:44:40 PM
You old acid head you! My favorite Dead album. I remember having to take it off once we got to What's Become Of the Baby for the safety of others and myself

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:03:43 PM
I still have 197 of the 200 Bicentennial albums I bought for the occasion
AoxMokxoA 1:03:50 PM
I figured we'd hear The American Breed today
Patrick Blanco 1:04:35 PM
Yeah the City of Philadelphia and it’s illustrious leadership bungled that one big time
AoxMokxoA 1:05:05 PM
Electric Flag
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:05:08 PM

AoxMokxoA 1:05:29 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:06:01 PM
Ha, Electric Flag and American Breed would have been perfect choices.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:06:45 PM
I would NOT have played Simon & Garfunkel
Patrick Blanco 1:09:00 PM
Jerry your entitled to your opinion of Eric Burdon as greatest White Blues singer but to me it’s Pat Boone and then everyone else,,,
AoxMokxoA 1:10:14 PM
Wayne Newton
Christine 1:11:02 PM
Kari Kirkland is one of the headliners for this year's Savannah Jazz Festival; it's in September.

AoxMokxoA 1:20:22 PM
😅
Patrick White 1:22:55 PM
Jerry I misidentified another song.I always thought Distant Drummer was by Linda Ronstadt. Now I found out it's by the Stone Ponys.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:25:10 PM
You were too young for that, one had to be there. After a couple years no one mentioned Stone Poneys again
Patrick White 1:27:41 PM
Sort of a West Coast Lothar and the Hand Persons???
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:28:34 PM
You're so politically correct!
Russell Woessner 1:29:24 PM
Nice recording of Carla Bley tunes by Cardenas, Allison & Nash!
Patrick White 1:33:21 PM
Nice job Jocelyn Gould fir Canada Day.i would have went for. Gordon Lightfoot but no need to overGordon.the program.
Brian D 1:34:35 PM
Different Drum is basically Ronstadt. Stone Poneys. Rotating cast. Linda was the main
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:16 PM
Hi Russ, yes it is. I like those three guys and I love the composition Ictus
Christine 1:40:28 PM
This current mood 💯
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:41:03 PM
Yes too much Gordon spoils the broth. But I am not thinking Canada this weekend!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:41:58 PM
Yes, Christine, it always gets me. How do you play reflecting on life as one is dying of Leukemia
Patrick White 1:42:10 PM
To quote Kenny Bania......This cut is Gold Jerry !!!Gold!!!
Russell Woessner 1:42:43 PM
Beautiful version of Blood Count by Charles Lloyd!
Christine 1:42:52 PM
It's sublime
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:48:51 PM
haha, Patrick. I have heard that before in my life, but always apprpriate
Richard from Rocky Hill 1:49:41 PM
@ Christine Sublime, indeed! And "Blood Couht" is so powerful emotionally as to be almost sacred. I don't think I'm over-analyzing to say that the final gently but inexorably descending scales represent Strayhorn's blood cells -- and his very life -- ebbing away. Gorgeous, astonishing, tragic, triumphant ... thank for the play and the back story, Jerry.
Mike Lupica 1:51:17 PM
Is anyone else having trouble loading wprb.com? I'm getting intermittent page loads.
Ambrose Hughes 1:54:33 PM
@Mike, I'm using my phone, no probs!
Mike Lupica 1:55:10 PM
Thanks Ambrose. Looks like it may have been a temporary blip as everything is back for me across all browsers.
Patrick White 1:55:19 PM
Not sure about these interweb loads but my Sanyo.cassette radio player coming in loud and clear.
Richard from Rocky Hill 1:56:38 PM
@ Patrick White & co .. Re: "Different Drum" (sorry for the delayed post) ... Yes, the hit recording featured Linda Ronstadt on lead vocals but she was still officially a member of the Stone Poneys folk-rock trio. The song was composed by future Monkee Mike Nesmith. A superb "citybilly" bluegrass singer/guitarist John Herald (then with the Greenbriar Boys band) recorded his slower, more wistful arrangement ... which is the one that inspired Ronstadt to cover the song.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:56:46 PM
Thanks, Richard. Good description by ou
AoxMokxoA 1:57:16 PM
I'm thinking of the theme from Mondo Cane by Duke Ellington
Richard from Rocky Hill 1:58:27 PM
@ Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) And thank YOU for such a marvelous show!
Patrick White 1:58:27 PM
ThanksRichard from Ricky Hill.I am an old man I get confused.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:58:38 PM
And Richard, thank you as always for being a LEADING Bluegrass writer and etc., while being from the Princeton area!
Christine 1:58:43 PM
@Mike, WPRB.com loaded fine for me. 👍
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:59:25 PM
Patrick, make sure you have extra batteries on hand.
Mike Lupica 2:00:17 PM
Thanks Christine!
Patrick White 2:00:38 PM
I tried using that line when you caught me boosting @3Rd Street but you wouldn't go for it since I was 17 at the time.
Ambrose Hughes 2:01:09 PM
@Mike, I see some tracks that shared the same time, two @1:29 two @ 1:49 but I've seen that before in past shows, don't know if that matters.
Patrick White 2:01:30 PM
Any John Herald Dan's go to John Weingarts site He wrote a beautiful tribute to John Herald.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:01:43 PM
AoxMokxoA, your knowledge across platforms is always appreciated.
Christine 2:07:14 PM
Many years before 🌫️🎩
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:07:42 PM
@ Patrick White Thanks, Patrick, for that shoutout to John-s Herald and Weingart. John W was a kind and admiring friend to John H during his final years and continuing to this day. John W's website obit-tribute to the hugely talented but sadly under-heralded (sorry!) John H is very worth accessing and reading.
AoxMokxoA 2:10:57 PM
Pigpen crushes this song
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:11:12 PM
True story, Patrick. You weren't the only bum I caught boosting records. After rolling out the red carpet for Ian Dury to promote his debut album, I caught him with a load of merchandise under his leather jacket. It disgusted me, ruined a real nice day.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:11:42 PM
Got to hear that, Mok
AoxMokxoA 2:12:43 PM
GD played this a lot in '72
ROFFLESTOMP 2:16:47 PM
The first song children of the sixties learned on the guitar. Supreme traditional chords of the Americana.
Christine 2:19:15 PM
Damn, Ian Dury was an ungrateful thief.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:20:45 PM
Right on, RS! And Right on, Christine.
ROFFLESTOMP 2:21:12 PM
That was not a cool thing to do, whom ever he was. Very sad to hear..
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:23:05 PM
It was very disappointing, RS, I'm still talking about it over 40 years later
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:24:50 PM
From my forthcoming book, "Jerry Gordon Unleashed"
ROFFLESTOMP 2:25:31 PM
And he had an elevated level which brings him and his actions down even lower. Trust is is dangerous sometimes. Hey, I'd read that!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:26:00 PM
Ha, thank you RS, you are a friend!
Christine 2:26:16 PM
What a parasitic thing to do (Ian). How is that book coming along, Jerry?
ROFFLESTOMP 2:27:22 PM
Your wonderful spirit carries the day Jerry, and packs a truckload of tunes! :)
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:27:55 PM
I have writer's block right now and I haven't been offered an advance either
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:28:11 PM
Thanks, RS
Ambrose Hughes 2:43:56 PM
😍 this song, never gets old.
ROFFLESTOMP 2:44:15 PM
Woolworth's! Definitely bought a Beatles and Monkeys 45 or two there for pocket change.
Christine 2:45:46 PM
Jerry, there will be a Eric Burdon history Part II next week?
Brian D 2:46:13 PM
Gotta put an asterisk next to "written by" for Baby Let Me Take You Home. Basically they took Eric Von Schmidt song Baby Let Me Follow You Down and rewrote it
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:49:13 PM
@ Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) Y'know, I'll confess to not being a major Eric Burden & the Animals fan. Sorry, but Burden's attitude vibes me out (the same way many people are vibed out by the Doors -- who I personally love -- because of Jim Morrison's personna). But that said, I think "It's My Life" is a pop masterpiece with Burden and band at top of their games. Question: Do we know who's responsible for the killer arrangement, that hooks us from the very first riffs?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:52:14 PM
Christine, yes!
Christine 2:56:41 PM
These past three hours flew! 🕊
Patrick White 2:56:43 PM
Sorry Jerry was driving.Ian Drury was a real blockhead.Great 3 hours Happy 4th and looking forward to next Friday!!@
Christine 2:57:48 PM
Thank you, DJ Jerry! 🇺🇸 🎆
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:59:27 PM
Thanks Christine, Patrick, et. al. Have a great weekend
Christine 2:59:58 PM
Love this clave rhythm and all the songs that use it (I want Candy by Bow Wow Wow, etc)
Ambrose Hughes 3:00:01 PM
Top show again Jerry, thank you and enjoy the Holiday!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 3:00:24 PM
Thanks Ambrose, have a good one!
Brian D 3:00:36 PM
Happy weekend happy 4th
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 3:00:52 PM
