| Mehdi Hassan Yaro Kisi Qatil Se Kabhi (Live) Mehdi Hassan in Concert, Vol.1 & 2 (Live) EMI (Pakistan) Ltd. 2013 Mehdi Hassan Khan (18 July 1927 – 13 June 2012) was a Pakistani ghazal singer. He was born in a village named Luna, in present day Rajasthan. He showed an early inclination towards music, and received training from his family in the dhrupad style of Hindustani music, as well as Dadra, thumri and khayal. After the partition of India in 1947, his family migrated to Pakistan. The ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry. The ghazal spread into South Asia in the 12th century due to the influence of Sufi mystics and the courts of the new Islamic Sultanate. The central themes are love and separation. Mehdi Hassan's presentation is similar to a thumri, but ghazals place much more emphasis on lyrics. |
