Re habitat preservation, I'm not a rich man by any means, but I choose to spend money belonging to a wildlife trust/ preserve vs a gym membership. I get plenty of exercise hiking there several times a week plus I feel like it is managed much better than a government funded park. Over the years I have seen species return to the area like beaver, bluebirds and even coyote within this trust.

Phenomenal Colin! We all have some small but significant power to donate where we can. You're right that a concerted team of dedicated individuals can make a big difference. I guess the expanding biodiversity makes the hikes better too!

expanding biodiversity also means an increase in biting insects. I had a bad reaction to horse or deer fly bites last week that had me driving myself to the urgent care with a ridiculously and comically swollen face. I'm fine now, but have been avoiding those extra damp areas of the trust!

Is thunder in any way analogous to sonic booms?

Maybe working towards biodiversity means acknowledging our own mortal position on the food chain, above the domesticated cattle and below the mosquitoes of our wild swamps

Great question Dave! Let me think about that:

A sonic boom is a "pile up" of sound, where you're hearing the sounds from many moments all at once, because they reach your ear simultaneously. You can see the two points of a sonic boom on the GIF I posted, but in 3D that would expand into something like a cone

Thunder is not a pile up, but rather whiplash from a bunch of air getting violently knocked out of place by superhot ionized gas

Imagine a scenario where many lightning strikes happened at different distances from you, but all the thunder reached you at once. Maybe that's a bit like a sonic boom

(speaking as an absolute non-expert, of course - the science of acoustics may be more complicated than I am putting it here)

they are studying all the side effects people were originally saying about " vaccine"

The science is quite clear that long Covid doesn't have anything to do with vaccines! People have been suffering from long covid since the beginning of the pandemic, since before vaccines were in play, and nowadays people of all vaccination statuses can still have these problems. Viruses are dangerous and extremely hard to understand!
