Best of good mornings to all my fellow radioleans! Thanks for joining today!
Li Maria 10:13:34 AM
Hello, DJ ATQ! Great tracks! Ready to sink into the forest w you
Brian D 10:25:13 AM
Late great Scott Byrne! Also in Instant Death (with Dave Dreiwitz of Ween, JRAD, Chris Harford and many others). Instant Death was quite a 2 person spectacle! So fun!
Brian (host) 10:32:24 AM
Into the forest we go!! Thanks for the history, Brian, I will go digging in the stacks to see if I can find that
Brian D 10:51:18 AM
Would love to hear more information about radio bursts in space. Subject that is appearing in the news articles lately.
Brian (host) 10:52:43 AM
Sounds like fun Brian! I appreciate the suggestion. Let me take a look!
Colin 10:56:34 AM
Re habitat preservation, I'm not a rich man by any means, but I choose to spend money belonging to a wildlife trust/ preserve vs a gym membership. I get plenty of exercise hiking there several times a week plus I feel like it is managed much better than a government funded park. Over the years I have seen species return to the area like beaver, bluebirds and even coyote within this trust.
Brian (host) 11:01:01 AM
Phenomenal Colin! We all have some small but significant power to donate where we can. You're right that a concerted team of dedicated individuals can make a big difference. I guess the expanding biodiversity makes the hikes better too!
Colin 11:05:01 AM
expanding biodiversity also means an increase in biting insects. I had a bad reaction to horse or deer fly bites last week that had me driving myself to the urgent care with a ridiculously and comically swollen face. I'm fine now, but have been avoiding those extra damp areas of the trust!
Uncle Guelo 11:11:32 AM
I’ve heard a sonic bloom…
Brian (host) 11:18:20 AM
Yesss to sonic booms! Nooo to shattering our earthly possessions!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:19:00 AM
Is thunder in any way analogous to sonic booms?
Brian (host) 11:19:20 AM
Maybe working towards biodiversity means acknowledging our own mortal position on the food chain, above the domesticated cattle and below the mosquitoes of our wild swamps
Brian (host) 11:19:54 AM
Great question Dave! Let me think about that:
Brian (host) 11:21:10 AM
A sonic boom is a "pile up" of sound, where you're hearing the sounds from many moments all at once, because they reach your ear simultaneously. You can see the two points of a sonic boom on the GIF I posted, but in 3D that would expand into something like a cone
Brian (host) 11:21:57 AM
Thunder is not a pile up, but rather whiplash from a bunch of air getting violently knocked out of place by superhot ionized gas
Brian (host) 11:23:18 AM
Imagine a scenario where many lightning strikes happened at different distances from you, but all the thunder reached you at once. Maybe that's a bit like a sonic boom
Brian (host) 11:24:54 AM
(speaking as an absolute non-expert, of course - the science of acoustics may be more complicated than I am putting it here)
Colin 11:25:50 AM
Dj atq, Don't know if it is my chat settings but I'm not seeing the gif links you shared.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:26:07 AM
Thanks, DJATQ! That clarifies things in my mind.
Brian (host) 11:26:24 AM
I tried putting it in the playlist but here's the GIF: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e4/Dopplereffectsourcemovingrightatmach1.4.gif/220px-Dopplereffectsourcemovingrightatmach1.4.gif
Colin 11:26:40 AM
that was a great question DTO.
Colin 11:27:09 AM
oops. yeah they are in the playlist. I had not refreshed in some time.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:29:10 AM
Like Brian says, we have to ask those questions.
jimmy jam and the shim sham 11:40:16 AM
side effects of vaccine
jimmy jam and the shim sham 11:40:53 AM
they are studying all the side effects people were originally saying about " vaccine"
Brian (host) 11:45:21 AM
The science is quite clear that long Covid doesn't have anything to do with vaccines! People have been suffering from long covid since the beginning of the pandemic, since before vaccines were in play, and nowadays people of all vaccination statuses can still have these problems. Viruses are dangerous and extremely hard to understand!
Li Maria 11:58:48 AM
Wow--sinkhole ecosystem!
Li Maria 12:00:06 PM
Thanks for all the cool music and science info, DJ ATQ
Brian (host) 12:00:14 PM
It's been a blast, everybody - nice to see you all here! See you in a couple weeks!
Brian (host) 12:00:56 PM
It's amazing - imagine a mouse family, separated by their very own impenetrable Berlin Wall
