@Rob - I've been a Maine many times and seen loons in Lake Pemadumcook (sp?) just below Baxter State Park. I haven't been back there in a long while, but used to camp there every summer as a teen. Overdue for a Maine trip, which was actually going to my road trip this summer, but then the kid wanted to go to this camp in Michigan, so we changed plans

I HAVE been to Wisconsin once, about 18 years ago, and I imagine it's a lot of the same birds, but I didn't leave Madison or Spring Green much, and threw out my back while there, so didn't go on much sightseeing and don't remember what birds I saw there!

@Rob - Bad timing! Had to go to a doc in Wisconsin to check it out. My friend I was visiting here had to recline her passenger's seat all the way back to drive me there so I could lie down! I haven't had back pain like that before or since (knock on wood.) Had a live DJ gig at Silk City when I got back to Philly and was on muscle relaxers, so I THOUGHT I was okay to go the gig, but BOY did I pay for that later! Hauling records crates and kneeling to grab records from 10pm-2am

@Readie - Since a good friend has been living in Pittsburgh for many years (10 years, then she moved away and just moved back,) I've been to the Warhol Museum a handful of times and might fit that in, but I'm partial to the Mattress Factory and the Poetry House, both on Sampsonia Way in the neighborhood of Mexican War Streets, where we'll be staying, so we're def get to those and the National Aviary!

Mattress Factory, The Poetry House and a cool Isaiah Zagar-style decorative mosaic/junk art house all on the same stretch of that street! Plus the bridges and rivers are gorgeous (if slightly confusing for navigation! -usually at least one bridge is closed when I'm there and my GPS does not understand that!)

I had been meaning to rewatch Something Wild for the first time in decades and when I saw it pop up on MVM, it put a fire under my butt to watch it again before listening to the episode and I REALLY enjoyed it. What a fun movie! I had just revisited another Feelies soundtrack movie this year - After Hours - and I liked Something Wild more

@Lizbot sadly no--I was there late July and August of 1999. The lyrics just evoke the time over there for me, that's all. I wish I'd been there longer than a few weeks in the summer, but that gave me a taste. Your mom must've had an amazing time!

@Dennis - haha, I wander if you couldve convinced a friend to do you a favor and get you to Philly! How did the casting call work? George & I were extras (in stiflingly hot 70s polyester gear) in that movie Invincible starring Mark Wahlberg (it wasn't very good.) The best part was hearing the stories of some of the more colorful SAG extras who regaled us with loads of Law& Order tales. I hate that show, but everyone has been on it since there are a million damn episodes.

@liz my girlfriend at the time was a set dresser. She and I handed in our pics and we got cast. But I think we were kind of fighting when we got cast so I was ambivalent.

IIRC, they filmed some of the Pennsylvania scenes in either Maryland or Florida, and the set dressing takes a lot of pains to make it appear to be Pennsylvania, but you can buy beer in a convenience store, and OH BOY NO YOU CAN NOT

@Dennis- aaaah, makes sense you avoided it then. Yeah, I got yelled at for eating the SAG actors' buffet lunch when I was non-SAG, but they only had meat sandwiches for us non-union chumps and I was vegan at the time! Other crimes committed on that set: The production managers calling Super Pretzel brand pretzels "Philly pretzels"! Being threatened that if any of us called Mark Wahlberg "Marky Mark" we'd be in big trouble!

@Mary, Montgomery Co. MD has strange laws too: Only one outlet per chain is allowed to sell alcohol. So, only the Trader Joe's in Rockville can do it, the one in Silver Spring can not
