The Clothesline

May 31, 2022 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

With Wilbo

Whirlwinds of stylistic indecision coalescing into a linear kaleidoscope of musical superimposition.

Best.

Summer. Ever. I. Hope.

PATTI SMITH 💟
David Shortell 1:21:06 PM
The Stones' "Going Home" is a long jam. Reminds me of the even longer "Revelation" that Love released later that year.
Brian D 1:23:13 PM
Richard Thompson performed Sloth multiple times throughout the 4 streaming shows we saw back in 2020. Means a lot to him that song . Co write with Dave Swarbrick
David Shortell 1:24:06 PM
This Fairport Connection sounds a lot like Fairport Convention to me.
Brian D 1:24:34 PM
Loved seeing him on the big tv screen in our living room. I could pause and see all those left hand fingerings!
Wilbo (host) 1:25:01 PM
they're very similar. damned autofill!

fingerings on an instrument
ivan 1:25:55 PM
itś ok we're laying pavers in the hot sun
Brian D 1:26:22 PM
Ha! Yes you called it David. Definitely Convention! Reminds me of the Lee Greenwood jumping in Lee Hazlewood's place to steal his thunder a few months back
Wilbo (host) 1:26:35 PM
Sloth and whirl Away both felt appropriate for the goings on of late
Mok Rebennack 1:27:40 PM
Richard is playing the Sellersville Theater in Aug or Sept
Brian D 1:27:48 PM
Yes! Fairport's comment on the millenia old worries of war
Brian D 1:29:00 PM
Yep. Saw that Mok. Free show down in South Jersey too but.... I'll pay for the close to home Sellersville show. Not to be missed
Brian D 1:30:05 PM
1 of my fave fiddle tunes. This one is so much fun to play!
Brian D 1:30:29 PM
That's MISTER Monroe to us
David Shortell 1:30:38 PM
I missed Richard Thompson when he played Woodbridge High School last summer (and the summer before that!). He'll return to our state on September 7, albeit in Haddon Heights which is pretty far from me.
Richard from Rocky Hill 1:30:59 PM
@ Wilbo (host) Hey! "Monroe's Hornpipe"! That surely got the attention of this ol' bluegrasser here today ...
Brian D 1:33:06 PM
Is it John 5?
Brian D 1:33:25 PM
Nope Danny Gatton!
Brian D 1:33:45 PM
Love his lps wow. Way too young Danny.. .
Brian D 1:36:53 PM
Kinks cover!
David Shortell 1:37:33 PM
Do you attend those Saturday jamborees at Albert Music Hall, Rocky Hill Richard? Or those monthly Sunday gatherings at Little Silver's Embury United Methodist Church?
Mok Rebennack 1:37:46 PM
For a slide, Gatton sometimes used a beer bottle or mug. In the March 1989 issue of Guitar Player magazine, Gatton said he preferred to use an Alka-Seltzer bottle or long 6L6 vacuum tube as a slide
Brian D 1:38:54 PM
I see Jerry Douglas's lp Under the Wire has everyone on it from the Skip Hop & Wobble lp (and more). Love that album
David Shortell 1:39:30 PM
The Flock released this the same year the Kinks got their ban in America lifted. I'm sure they appreciated it.
Brian D 1:44:53 PM
Travesty that KINKS ban. Just as the rock concert world was changing and blowing up in a major way. And with one of their best lps ever recently released (Village Green Pres Soc). They really got held back and missed out
Wilbo (host) 1:45:51 PM
That's how I wound up seeing them at the Trenton Fairgrounds
-ᎷяMΔᏞᏨØИᎢΞNᎢ-💀 1:46:12 PM
Great selections!
Wilbo (host) 1:48:53 PM
Thanks
Wilbo (host) 1:54:54 PM
DS, way back yonder there were jamborees at Englishtown Music Hall, they would sell corn fritters from a fake storefront on stage during breaks.
Brian D 2:00:19 PM
Down with the Jawn
David Shortell 2:00:58 PM
I bought the Jajouka musicians' 1971 album because Brian Jones' name was on it.
Brian D 2:01:23 PM
Henry Vestine from Canned Heat fame collab w Ayler ... Very cool
Brian D 2:04:23 PM
Read about the Master Musicians of Jajouka recently. They've been going for centuries or something.

TRUST NO ONE
David Shortell 2:33:24 PM
I remember a Melvin Van Peebles (who died last fall) retrospective at the Film Forum back in the 2000’s. It included a documentary I can’t remember the name of, which described the making of 1971’s “Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song”.
David Shortell 2:33:27 PM
Years later in 2003, there was a drama, “Baadasssss!”, that described the 1971 film’s making, in which Melvin was played by his son Mario (who played Sweetback as a kid in the beginning of the 1971 film). And Melvin appears in the very last second of the 2003 film! I’m sorry if this is confusing.

Brian D 2:52:17 PM
I saw a film, not a documentary, starring his son Mario VanPeebles as dad Melvin that was about the making of Sweetbacks EtcEtc long title. That was really good. Melvin just about blinded himself puting in long hours editing the film
ivan 2:52:26 PM
yup i forgot the deep fry comes with white bread
Brian D 2:53:19 PM
Sis had this 45. I played it a bunch.
ivan 2:53:26 PM
Fr. Laplinka return to the rectory..
David Shortell 2:54:46 PM
Mrs. Miller appeared on shows like Mike Douglas, Carson and Sullivan. I thought she was Klaus Nomi when I first heard her.
Fani Alex 2:55:39 PM
Wilbo, you play the best tunes!!!!
Brian D 2:56:17 PM
Aha David said it already. The other hard to search title is Baadassss! That's the Mario led film
