Hi Patrick! Jack Baldschun is in the Chat Room!
Patrick White 12:05:54 PM
Duke Ellington Musical Genius Statesman Innovator and he never gave up 7 runs in the 9th inning.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:07:07 PM
My father would have turned off the radio after they gave up the first couple of runs in the ninth and started cursing at the "bums"
Patrick White 12:08:08 PM
At Connie Mack Stadium the Phillies bullpen would hide at a bar across from the Stadium. We need to build a saloon for this year's bullpen

Christine 🌛 12:09:50 PM
@Jerry, I did not see any Phillies this week, though I hear they are, shall we say, underperforming.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:14 PM
That you didn't see them was a blessing
Patrick White 12:10:55 PM
I offered to do the 10AM show but management said they had someone with more personality.
Ambrose Hughes 12:11:00 PM
Hi Jerry! This is some tune, Wrembel is considered one of the best.
Christine 🌛 12:11:26 PM
@Jerry I don't know why Lenca's show was not broadcast today, and if there were technical problems. I was on a work call & when I tuned back in there was an old show of DJ Pup's being played.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:30 PM
UNBELIEVABLE, Ambrose!!!!!!

Theme song!! 🐦 🎶
Ambrose Hughes 12:21:19 PM
@Jerry, I once got a haircut from a barber who when he was a young man starting out used to cut the hair(s) of the Philadelphia Athletics close to 21st & Lehigh, he had large blown up photo's in b/w of the old stadium and players hanging up in his barber shop in Hatboro PA, he talked my ear off, (almost cut my ear off) Haha! He had so many stories about those days, I think I must've been in that chair for a couple hours, wasn't the greatest haircut either but in a way it really was.
Patrick White 12:22:16 PM
An inordinate number of musicians have made cameo appearances in movies.None were cooler than Dukes appearance in the Jimmy Stewart movie Anatomy of a Murder.
Patrick White 12:23:54 PM
Greetings Ambrose. They had a wonderful Philadelphia Athletics museum and library next door to the USPS.Bobby Schantz still going strong at 99.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:24:53 PM
I love that, Ambrose. What a memory! Beautiful!
Ambrose Hughes 12:25:07 PM
Hey there Patrick, thanks for the info.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:25:30 PM
I knew he did the music, Patrick, but didn't know he did a cameo!
Patrick White 12:26:44 PM
As Duke would sat its beyond category.
Ambrose Hughes 12:27:01 PM
@Jerry, yeah, he was a pretty old guy at the time, was prob 20 years ago now, wish I could remember his name.

Haha. The Phila. A's museum is a half a mile from my house now
Christine 🌛 12:30:56 PM
@Bo, was this the old barber shop on Byberry near York Road? I used to pass there on my commute all the time. It looked like it had been frozen in time around 1963.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:31:24 PM
Loved Bobby Shantz, when he was with the Phils!
Patrick White 12:34:02 PM
If I could enter a time travel machine.......April 25 1966.Duke and his orchestra perform A Concert of Sacred Music @Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia.Duke remarks on Cat.Andersons trumpet...Trumpets can't go any higher.

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:33:47 PM
She was from St. Louis, put out many albums, the hippest!
Joe 1:34:22 PM
Listening to this body of work .. how it's so pervasive in the ears of music fans is really staggering. Some jazz players may think less of them as compared to some heavier standards like "Stella by Starlight" or "All the Things you Are" but the sheer number of tunes that have stuck in the public consciousness from Duke and Strayhorn is just remarkable.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:35:11 PM
True that, Joe. Thanks for listening and commenting
Brian D 1:35:46 PM
Yep. Juan Tizol too
Joe 1:36:19 PM

In the summer of 1967 I'd just turned 18...I was living now in NYC and about to start going to Pratt Institute in the fall...I hit the Summer of Love at just the right moment...I describe it as having been invited to the the greatest and longest running party of all time...THANK YOU for playing LOTHAR and anything by Marty Balin
