Brian D 5:01:27 PM
Hello Lizbot! Oooo that's good....
Readie 5:01:44 PM
Mem'ries!
Readie 5:02:14 PM
Woo woo weeeeee!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:46 PM
Hey Readie, partner in radio righteousness and pledge drive mania!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:51 PM
hi Brian D!
Readie 5:03:15 PM
Hey LizBot - ++goodness!!
Readie 5:03:21 PM
Hi Bri!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:35 PM
@Brian D- Yeah, I resurrected my old show ID for the anniversary! I had to rerecord my bit because my old ID was lost in studioland
Lizbot (host) 5:03:51 PM
Happy Cinco de Mayo, todo del mundo!
Readie 5:04:00 PM
It was good hearing that ID again!
Lizbot (host) 5:04:12 PM
Maybe after this show I'll eat tacos on the deck
Readie 5:04:28 PM
Bienvenidos y hola...
Brian D 5:04:44 PM
What's the Buzz
Lizbot (host) 5:04:58 PM
This next song coming up is for me but also for my kid as we are both huge fans of Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox and this song was featured in a very satisfying scene in the end!
DSM 5:05:09 PM
Hey Lizbot! Double+ Anniversary show let's gooooo!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:13 PM
Hi DSM!!
Readie 5:05:16 PM
tell me whatsa happenin'
Lizbot (host) 5:05:31 PM
@Brian D - "tell me what's-a-happein'"
Lizbot (host) 5:05:40 PM
haha, beat me to it, Read!
Readie 5:05:55 PM
LOL! great minds......
richard lyons 5:06:18 PM
Yay The Buzzcocks! Hi all!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:29 PM
Hey Richard!!
Readie 5:06:40 PM
Hi DSM, hola Richard!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:41 PM
@Richard - I couldn't not play that album - a formative one for me
Readie 5:08:19 PM
Of course, Devo!
Readie 5:08:35 PM
One of my fave albums!
Lizbot (host) 5:08:36 PM
And it was CRIMINAL I didn't get to any DEVO last week! I'd say it was sloppy, but it was by design - the backend of the show was extra-Devo-loaded and of course Read & I talked so much that I didn't get to these songs!
DSM 5:08:57 PM
Hey Readie, nice to see you!
Readie 5:08:59 PM
We HAD A MISSION!
Readie 5:09:07 PM
Same here, DSM!!!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:26 PM
Q: Are We Not Bots? A: We Are WPRB!
Readie 5:09:58 PM
Oh yes, we are indeed!
Lizbot (host) 5:11:03 PM
I couldn't resist doing a 2nd week for the Doubleplusgood 20th Anniversary because there is WAY TOO much to fit in to one show!
Readie 5:11:05 PM
It's so cool that it's light out when your show starts, and that I have more time now to prep my show so I can listen in!!! Woohoo
Lizbot (host) 5:11:45 PM
I'm glad my daughter has really embraced The Ramones this past year. She's 13 and suddenly consuming so much music 24/7
Readie 5:12:32 PM
When did you get into music consumption?
Lizbot (host) 5:14:58 PM
@Readie - haha, I mean I realize that's a weird way of putting it, but I bought my first record - The Who Sell Out - a the Book Trader on South Street as a kid. Listening to my parents' records since birth!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:08 PM
@Readie- Here's another for ya!
Readie 5:15:29 PM
YEAH!!!! this is totally awesome!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:42 PM
TEX-ASSS KAN-SASSSSSSSSSS
Readie 5:15:51 PM
Kans- ASS!
Lizbot (host) 5:16:01 PM
:)
Lizbot (host) 5:16:20 PM
And now America!
Readie 5:16:23 PM
I have the biggest smile on my face right now!
Lizbot (host) 5:16:40 PM
@Readie - That warms the cockles and cogs of this cold robot heart
Lizbot (host) 5:18:11 PM
How many people are listening outside on a portable device? The sun is BLARING in the window of my studio right in my face right now, but it's gorgeous! Bonus: Male cardinal hopping around in the tree out the window
Readie 5:18:13 PM
YES, TYVM! As for music, when my mom was preggnant with me, they went to a Judy Garland concert and I heard it all in utero. Judy was sitting on the lip of the stage, mom told me.
Readie 5:18:57 PM
Is that TMI?! borderline I guess!
Lizbot (host) 5:19:20 PM
@Readie - Whoa! Magical!
Readie 5:19:58 PM
Right? I'm so glad she told me that! AND like you, my parents had music playing all the time in the house!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:23 PM
@Readie - Totally NOT TMI! We played Hattie loads of albums in utero and of course went to many shows while I was pregnant with her! We played her Cyndi Lauper's All Through the Night a lot!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:36 PM
....and HERE's that first record I ever bought
Brian D 5:21:12 PM
WSO!
Readie 5:21:15 PM
Love that Cyndi song! And this is soooo nice with those little tinklies in there!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:31 PM
@Brian D - WSO = BEST
Lizbot (host) 5:21:34 PM
And THIS SOLO
Readie 5:22:24 PM
1967-68, very good years...
DSM 5:23:06 PM
Noice! Loving the Joan lately
DSM 5:23:32 PM
(as in that you're playing her)
Readie 5:23:44 PM
Joan's voice!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:25 PM
@DSM - She is amazing, I love her so much! And you know the way I first got into her was that, as a teen, I always found her records in discount dollar bins at multiple used record stores! I'm glad I bought those back then!
Dennis Lobot 5:24:50 PM
Hay all! Happy double plus 20 years show, LizBot!
Readie 5:25:09 PM
Hi Dennis!
Lizbot (host) 5:25:15 PM
Hey Dennis!! Thanks!
DSM 5:25:18 PM
Ha, me too Lizbot! Got her Track Record album in the dollar bin, I was like, why nobody want this it's amaze!
Readie 5:29:11 PM
Yes! Laurie!
Dennis Lobot 5:29:43 PM
Fantastic Mr Fox! 🎶🦊🐭🐱🦊🎶
Lizbot (host) 5:29:59 PM
@DSM - Seriously! WHY were her records always in the dollar bin?! She is the artist I most consistently found in used record cheap-o bins and she is incredible!
Lizbot (host) 5:30:55 PM
@Dennis - SO good. Infinitely better than Isle of Dogs as far as stop-motion Wes Anderson goes, but I still like IofD too cuz I will watch most anything he makes
Lizbot (host) 5:32:42 PM
@Dennis - By the way, I put off listening to you & Mary's Fitzcarraldo episode because I somehow never saw it, despite being a Herzog fan and seeing a lot of his other films. It's one I'd been saving for a special night for years and your pod finally inspired me to watch it so I could listen to the episode, and oh man, it was epic and great.
Readie 5:32:51 PM
Whatever happened to this WPRB ID?
Brian D 5:32:53 PM
Os Mutantes, not just a station ID!
Brian D 5:33:14 PM
Ha beat me to it
Readie 5:33:25 PM
great minds AGAIN
Lizbot (host) 5:34:14 PM
@Dennis - I started watching Burden of Dreams, the doc about the making of it, afterwards but it was far too late at night at that point and I fell asleep a half hour in, but I have heard the stories about the crazy experience making it and the feud between Herzog and Kinski for years
DSM 5:34:24 PM
Another common dollar bin find were all the Dwight Twilley albums, who I think is so under appreciated
Lizbot (host) 5:34:37 PM
@Read - oh YEAH! So many long-lost station IDs!
Lizbot (host) 5:34:53 PM
@DSM - Hmmm, you're giving me an idea for a show!
DSM 5:35:26 PM
Dollar Bin Dive Gems!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:32 PM
@Brian D / Readie - Some of the long-lost IDs I think I might have to just recreate at some point.
Lizbot (host) 5:35:42 PM
@DSM - Yes! Perfect!
Readie 5:35:50 PM
Yeah, I wish someone could find that CD of ALL of them that Mike Lupica made back in the day when the thingy was broken.
Lizbot (host) 5:36:04 PM
Earlier in the pandemic, I made a buncha IDs and enlisted the voices of my family members!
Dennis Lobot 5:36:23 PM
@Liz we loved it, we still have to watch Burden of Dreams. We’re currently trying to watch Stroszek via the Netflix disc thing, but twice now the disc was broken (maybe they just have one copy and sent it back to us just to annoy us).
Readie 5:36:24 PM
Yea, Lizbot those were cool...
Lizbot (host) 5:36:37 PM
@Read- George had a buncha cool ideas too!
Readie 5:36:59 PM
Yes, we need a repository with ALL of that stuff in it!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:34 PM
@Dennis - I want to watch Aguirre again soon. I rented it from the Phila Pubic Library main branch in like '99 or so, and I don't remember that much of it.
Dennis Lobot 5:37:39 PM
@Readie there should be an audio museum of WPRB sound clips.
Readie 5:38:07 PM
This band is new to me, love the JANGLY-ness
Lizbot (host) 5:38:21 PM
@Dennis - I still have mail-order Netflix as well, for the same reason - that you can't find certain films anywhere else - but I swear they don't replace those discs often...or ever
Dennis Lobot 5:38:26 PM
Like the one described by Ken Nordine in Word Jazz.
Lizbot (host) 5:38:43 PM
@Readie - Felt = VERY jangly. I love them. Lawrence, the frontman, is a bonafide weirdo
Readie 5:38:52 PM
@Dennis- YES! they are classics. SOmeone was saying, "bring back Theis" the other day.
Lizbot (host) 5:38:53 PM
@Readie - (in the best way)
Lizbot (host) 5:39:29 PM
@Dennis - haha, we had Nordine IDs and I don't think I have those now either! His stuff is ripe for ID-making
Readie 5:39:40 PM
Of course, bona fide weirdos are close to my heart
Readie 5:40:47 PM
There were some years during the '80s where I just dropped off the face of the earth I think.
Lizbot (host) 5:41:22 PM
@Readie - I can't play Felt around George! He doesn't like Lawrence's lackadaisical vocal delivery!
Lizbot (host) 5:42:05 PM
This song is imploring people to take their shoes and go outside, but bring a portable radio!
Readie 5:42:15 PM
@Lizbot, oh no, that's funny!
Readie 5:42:56 PM
I used to carry my transister everywhere and taped it to my bike handlebars.
Readie 5:43:40 PM
Is that an oboe?
Dennis Lobot 5:44:07 PM
Hey Liz, speaking of jangly, do you know The Brothers Kendall? (Maybe called The Brothers Kendall and the Wild Blue Yonder) they had a song or 2 in Hal Hartley’s Unbelievable Truth and I’ve been looking for them ever since.
Lizbot (host) 5:44:09 PM
@Readie - haha, I did that with my old tropicana orange radio my mom got by sending in orange juice box-tops! I put it in my bike basket. It's antenna was a red & white stripey straw!
Readie 5:45:00 PM
@Lizbot, what a cooool radio! Your mom is amazing!!
DSM 5:45:57 PM
Dennis and Lizbot, I too have Netflix Discs and I thought I was the only one left. Of course wprb crew is doing it too lol
DSM 5:46:50 PM
The Shleep album is so good
Lizbot (host) 5:47:11 PM
@Dennis - ooooh, no! I watched the Unbelievable Truth in high school and had a little Hal Hartley phase back then, but I haven't seen that film since - I gotta revisit it and check out the score!
Commie Francis ☭ 5:47:41 PM
Very much loving this set!!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:11 PM
@DSM - My mom was the queen of box-tops when I was a kid! We had towels from various companies, all kinds of other little household goodies, but that radio was the sweetest - an orange with a built-in dials and that straw antenna!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:22 PM
Hi Commie! Glad you're enjoying!
Lizbot (host) 5:49:07 PM
@DSm - I love Shleep! I went to the record store End of an Ear in Austin when I was there for a wedding purely for the name and cuz I knew the owner would probably have taste in line with mine, and they sure did!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:08 PM
@DSM - I bought a limited edition print of the Shleep album art by Robert's wife Alfreda Benge, but I have yet to frame and hang it - LOVE that cover
Lizbot (host) 5:50:24 PM
Couldn't not play XTC!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:42 PM
double-negative doubleplusgood
Dennis Lobot 5:51:46 PM
@dsm there’s so many movies you can only get that way, they just aren’t streaming anywhere.
Dennis Lobot 5:52:15 PM
@Liz is Low up next?!?
Lizbot (host) 5:53:11 PM
@DSM / Dennis - Oddly, occasionally Netflix mails me a random DVD I didn't order... But yeah, I am obsessed with format change making media inaccessible
DSM 5:54:13 PM
Wow, I've never once had that happen! I do get the occasional cracked disc tho.
Lizbot (host) 5:54:50 PM
@DSM - yeah, its a mystery that's been going on for years!
Dennis Lobot 5:55:38 PM
@dsm/Lizbot yup. Especially with Disney and other monsters gobbling up other studios and killing the streaming rights. I love scouring PREX dvds.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:55:41 PM
Oh wow, Claudine Longet! Too funny!
DSM 5:55:46 PM
My local dollar store actually gets really good DVDs, like indie films and stuff, I can't help buying them, maybe for a future where ALL content is outlawed haha
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:00:12 PM
Happy 20th part two, Lizbot!
Ambrose Hughes 6:00:59 PM
Hi Lizbot! HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY ...TWICE! Just got home from work, I see I missed so many great songs that are also favs!😣😃👍
Lizbot (host) 6:01:47 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!! I love that song. Written by the prolific Andre Popp!
Lizbot (host) 6:02:37 PM
@DSM - Srsly. you never you want streamers will go under or stop streaming films you love! I have TOO many DVDs but I can't resist when Criterion has a sale!
Grink Ashman 6:02:37 PM
Hey Lizbot, do you know Rise Robots Rise?
ROFFLESTOMP 6:02:43 PM
So cool, Anderson is awesome. That guitar track with Belew is insane for sure..
Lizbot (host) 6:02:57 PM
Hi Ambrose!! Thank you! I'm glad you're here now!
mark 6:03:15 PM
hi Lizbot happy 20 anniversary Liked the claudine longet too you know her controversial past ?
Lizbot (host) 6:03:19 PM
Hi Grink!! I don't! What's it like? Is that a film/song/band?
Grink Ashman 6:04:08 PM
Early 90's dance afro beat ish lots of percussion
Lizbot (host) 6:04:12 PM
Hi Mark!! I do. Read all about her and "Spider" Sabich. Crazy. But an amazing voice!
Lizbot (host) 6:04:29 PM
@Grink - I'll have to check that out! Sounds up my alley!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:05:13 PM
Criterion is a treasure trove for sure.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:05:17 PM
‘Sup peeps?
Grink Ashman 6:05:19 PM
they opened for my friends band Think Tree china club 92?
Lizbot (host) 6:05:20 PM
Speaking of movies, this song was featured very effectively in a scene depicting a middle schooler's anxiety about attending a pool party in Bo Burnham's movie Eighth Grade
Lizbot (host) 6:05:29 PM
Hi Addie!! Hi Slithers!!
Lizbot (host) 6:05:54 PM
@Roffle - Whenever Criterion or Numero Group have sales, I am helpless to resist!
mark 6:05:58 PM
ha there was an infamous snl skit about it they had to apologize & never show it again
Lizbot (host) 6:06:16 PM
Hi Rob!! I have a male cardinal outside my window right now!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:06:27 PM
Heya Lizbot! Grateful for your show this evening. 🥰
Grink Ashman 6:06:30 PM
Think Tree, too. Great weird Berkley band
Lizbot (host) 6:06:58 PM

ROFFLESTOMP 6:07:04 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:07:08 PM
@Grink - huh...I gotta make a list!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:08:05 PM
Saw these guys at the Tower when I was a kid!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:08:51 PM
Lizbot, how awesome about your cardinal!!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:21 PM
@Roffle - R.I.P. John Wetton. I did a tribute to him on air in 2017. I was lucky to see him perform at the Zoellner Arts Center in Bethlehem for NEARFest Apocalypse in 2012 and he blew me away. He ALSO did Starless! I want to get to that today but probably won't have time.
Lizbot (host) 6:09:46 PM
@Rofflestomp - Amazing! I'd love to time-travel back to that show!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:56 PM
@Roffle - I wish I saw them as a kid!
Randy Marthins 6:10:53 PM
My roommate at Susquehanna was HUGE Allan Holdsworth fan!!!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:11:10 PM
OMG, all my heros on one stage. :)
Lizbot (host) 6:11:36 PM
@Rob - My cardinal is hanging out in a tree out the window directly to my left. I also have some mourning doves nesting in the arborvitae directly beneath my window. They flutter to the tree across the driveway whenever anyone opens that door. They're here every year, same pair
Grink Ashman 6:12:00 PM
Saw Allan Holdsworth walking down Chestnut, Said hi.
Lizbot (host) 6:12:19 PM
Here's another great 1978 album, Equinox's!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:33 PM
@Grink - Whoa!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:37 PM
Hi Randy!!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:50 PM
@Randy - nice!
Grink Ashman 6:13:04 PM
1991?
Lizbot (host) 6:13:45 PM
@Rob - The mourning dove fledgings always perch on our doorway railing every year. a different pair sadly tried to nest over our deck on a an uneven ledge and the nest and eggs fell
ROFFLESTOMP 6:14:18 PM
@Grink Ashman - I saw Holdsworth at the Liberty Lunch in Austin in the 80's playing a Synthaxe.... He was still alive though.
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:16:53 PM
@Lizbot, I love to see baby Mourning Doves. Bummer about the falling nest and eggs though.
Buck Wild 6:17:08 PM
Happy Birthday kid!

ROFFLESTOMP 6:17:25 PM
Jean-Michel Jarre for a rarefied treat that lets birds fly.
Lizbot (host) 6:18:21 PM
Hi Buck!! Thank you!
Grink Ashman 6:18:35 PM
saw holdsworth at Rutgers late 80's. right in front, Jimmy Johnson , amazing bass!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:01 PM
@Rofflestomp - Sometimes in a heavy rainstorm on a summer night I gotta just let all of the JMJ Equinoxe album play and bask in it
ROFFLESTOMP 6:21:22 PM
@Grink - How priceless those things have become.
Readie 6:22:06 PM
OK, here we go...
Readie 6:22:16 PM
crankin' it
DSM 6:22:24 PM
Yeah this thing is perfect! And so damn sexy!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:22:31 PM
@Lizbot - That's the time worth taking!
Grink Ashman 6:22:45 PM
I think it was a free show
Lizbot (host) 6:22:47 PM
@Grink - Nice! I heard about his 5-string bass with a low B string! (My husband is a bassist)
Lizbot (host) 6:22:50 PM
yeeeeeah
Lizbot (host) 6:22:54 PM
god, I love this song
Lizbot (host) 6:23:05 PM

Grink Ashman 6:24:25 PM
It was 1986
Lizbot (host) 6:24:47 PM
@Readie - perfection. Did I ever tell you about the weird animated crab short film that uses this song?
Readie 6:25:05 PM
No, tell me more @Lizbot
Ossy Hyouka 6:25:13 PM
Sunny finals afternoon Lizbot and all!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:29 PM
Hi Ossy!! Glad to accompany you during those!
Readie 6:25:40 PM
Hey Ossy!!!
Ossy Hyouka 6:25:46 PM
:D
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:25:56 PM
Love this one! Such a sunshiney song
Ossy Hyouka 6:25:58 PM
Hi Readie!!!
Readie 6:26:19 PM
Yes, Addie - is it sunny where you are?!?!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:38 PM
@Readie - I saw it at the Prince Theatre on Broad St in the very early 2000s as part of an animated short film fest and it was one of my favorite shorts there. It was about depressed crabs who can only scuttle in one direction. I have to do some digging to find the title
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:26:39 PM
Very, Readie! Lovely day here, windows open!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:51 PM
@Addie - I love her voice!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:26:56 PM
I remember Les Clayborne in a lobster suit, but that's as close I get to that. :)
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:27:01 PM
Omg I need to know about this crab short.
Readie 6:27:13 PM
Cool, Lizbot! Need the intel!
Lizbot (host) 6:27:53 PM
@Addie - haha, I gotta do some digging! I have a soft spot for ornery crabs!
Dennis Lobot 6:28:22 PM
There needs to be a Les Claypool YouTube video of him playing Crimson and Clover in his lobster suit.
Readie 6:28:24 PM
Great, Addie! I went for a walk by the river today- fragraant lilacs and honeysuckle - BLISSFUL! And this show is perfection, rn.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:29:08 PM
I’m a member of a fb group called “crustacean memes for crabby fiends” that would love to know about this short.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:31 PM
@Addie & Read - I dug around for it a few years ago and eventually turned it up, but it doesn't come up on YouTube readily. I wanna show it to Hattie!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:29:35 PM
Still waiting patiently for the lilacs here, Readie! Hopefully soon.
Readie 6:30:43 PM
Aren't they wonderful, Addie? I hope to head up to Scranton this WE and hopefully they will have JUST bloomed up north
Lizbot (host) 6:31:03 PM
@Roffle / Dennis - OMG I want Les Claypool to remain in a lobster suit always. I think Primus is touring because I seem to recall my husband mentioning wanting to go
ROFFLESTOMP 6:31:17 PM
@Dennis - I love his bass solo from Thela Hun Ginjeet. Classy and well done for sure.
Lizbot (host) 6:31:28 PM
@Addie - oh man, I need to join that! FB groups like that improve my day!
Brian D 6:31:52 PM
Read the Tommy James book last year. Good stories. The making of Draggin The Line was cool to read . He used a tape loop for the main track. Kept that solid rhythm. And def some mob stories . So many songs! First heard him as a kid in late 1970s early 1980s. He had a comeback hit 3 Times in Love all over radio for a short bit.
Lizbot (host) 6:32:45 PM
@Dennis - Is the movie this E.G. Daily song comes from - Better Off Dead - on your list for MVtM or has Mary already seen it?
Brian D 6:33:03 PM
Cusack at the dance!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:33:04 PM
The crab group never fails to entertain us, @lizbot. Do attend!
Readie 6:33:08 PM
@Brian D- that's a great book, I could listen to TJ for hour. Draggin' the line is a fave
Lizbot (host) 6:33:16 PM
I love the dance scene in this movie. Better Off Dead is greater than John Hughes 80s teen movies! Fight me!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:33:23 PM
I wanted to checkout the Claypool/Lennon thing, but I don't know if that is still a thing.
Readie 6:33:25 PM
for hours actually, not just one
Brian D 6:33:40 PM
Agreed Liz
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:33:45 PM
@Readie they are everywhere in my neighborhood and it’s heavenly when they bloom.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:47 PM
@Readie - I love Draggin the Line. late 90s movie I love New Waterford Girl has a great party scene to that song
Lizbot (host) 6:34:08 PM
oooh THIS squeak!
Brian D 6:34:27 PM
Better off Dead better crazy darkish humor. Never got into the Hughes flicks much.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:34:36 PM
Better Off Dead is one of my Number one Cusak film. :)
Readie 6:34:54 PM
I must try to find that flick
Brian D 6:35:16 PM
EG in the film Valley Girl also. Sparks music connection!
Lizbot (host) 6:35:24 PM
@Addie - Thank you for the crabby recommendation! Once, on the way to a show at the Troc, my friend purchased a live crab from a tank in Chinatown and brought it to the show. He wrote a song about it called Gift-Wrapped Crab. His band was a hardcore band called Thoughtstreams. Alex Nagle
Brian D 6:35:54 PM
The source of "2 DOLLARS!" oft quoted line
Brian D 6:36:16 PM
Better off Dead that is not valley girl
Brian D 6:36:41 PM

Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:37:03 PM
I love "Lorelei"
Dennis Lobot 6:37:06 PM
@Liz, we’ve both seen Better Off Dead. I love it, but we can’t do it for the podcast, unfortunately.
Lizbot (host) 6:37:51 PM
@Addie - If you've never noticed it, look for the ridiculous cartoon crab holding a director's clapperboard in John Waters' Cecil B. Demented in the scene on the Baltimore waterfront. I don't know why but it made me laugh to tears.
Lizbot (host) 6:38:43 PM
@Dennis - ah, sad, but I figured! I can never tell what Mary has seen and what she hasn't! Some of them surprise me!
Dennis Lobot 6:38:50 PM
@rofflestomp everything I’ve heard from that claypool/Lennon project sounds great. I’m debating going to that Primus Farewell to Kings show.
Brian D 6:38:59 PM
First time I heard Sparks was watching Valley Girl. Had no idea who they were but i loved when that Monster of Love song comes up in the 1 scene!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:39:16 PM
Cecil B. Demented! LMAO right there. :)
Brian D 6:40:03 PM
Eddie Van Hamburger animation scene in Better off Dead!
Readie 6:40:09 PM
Well, of course Saint Pe-tah had to be here!!
Readie 6:40:47 PM
This album is so fine
Brian D 6:41:04 PM
LEVIN STICK!
Readie 6:41:51 PM
Yes, Bri!
Lizbot (host) 6:41:51 PM
We have entered the shameless shimmery big production hits portion of the program! I love Peter and "So" and saw him perform it in full about 15 years ago. I have a very strong exhilarating memory of being in a car driven by TEENS for the first time, with NO parents on board, with the older daughters of family friends and they BLASTED So when it was new and, actually, we were driving around Princeton because they lived in Lawrenceville
ROFFLESTOMP 6:42:08 PM
@Brian D - I have not thought about french fries in any other way since. Levin is insane for sure.
Ossy Hyouka 6:42:26 PM
E.G Daily I see, isn't that both voices of Buttercup and Tommy Pickles?
Brian D 6:42:46 PM
Larryville, if you're really familiar with the town
Readie 6:42:54 PM
Bring on the shameless shimmer!
Lizbot (host) 6:42:56 PM
@Ossy - Oooh, you might be right! I think she does voice acting
Brian D 6:43:24 PM
Yes EG does tons o voice acting
Lizbot (host) 6:43:28 PM
@Brian D - haha. Their mom was a dean at Rider University and former colleague of Esoterica
Readie 6:43:32 PM
I don't even know how many times I've seen Pe-tah
Lizbot (host) 6:43:50 PM
@Brian D - That Eddie Van Hamburger is FILM GOLDDDDD
Readie 6:44:27 PM

Readie 6:46:01 PM
@Lizbot, that is a great story!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:46:08 PM
This is another one of those I. Goldberg songs for me.
Readie 6:46:10 PM
Amazing
Lizbot (host) 6:46:40 PM
@Brian D / Ossy - Yeah, E.G. has such an expressive and squeaky singing voice, I can picture her in the sound booth voicing Rugrats!
Brian D 6:47:29 PM
Friends used to work for a movie theater chain in the 80s. PA locations and the Lawrenceville Jerz locations. They used to THROW DOWN the underage drinking ragers! I remember you could sneak up on the roof of the Lawr. location. Saw so so so many free movies. Bring yer own cup for unlimited refills of 'corn n sodee. We had to sneak in 5-10 mins after start time. Stay n seat n wait for begin 5 mins next showing...
Lizbot (host) 6:47:40 PM
singing along. can't help it.
Readie 6:48:10 PM
of course, @Lizbot
Ossy Hyouka 6:48:17 PM
I never knew EG was a singer on the side, as well being in movies of herself, so amazing, Liz!
Lizbot (host) 6:48:47 PM
@Addie - haha, I keep invoking I.Goldberg. Now you're making me think of work clothes I got at the Pennsauken Mart a million years ago!
Brian D 6:49:04 PM

Thanks, Addie!
Dennis Lobot 6:49:38 PM

I. Goldberg is so much more than any other army navy store...
Dennis Lobot 6:50:42 PM

Dennis Lobot 6:52:14 PM
I longed for the Israeli army sneakers at I. Goldberg but was always too poor. When I finally bought them they had no support whatsoever and I couldn’t wear them.

Grink Ashman 6:57:05 PM
I worked at I goldberg Cherry Hill, about 1982?
Grink Ashman 6:57:50 PM
Richey Havens did that gingle.

AHHHH YEAH! Flying Nun!!
Lizbot (host) 7:02:51 PM
@Dennis - haha, Yeah I was JUST telling George today that I saw that video of them hugging quite a bit as a kid since "So" was such a massive hit and the Sledgehammer video was deemed The Best Video Ever at the time, so all the other singles with videos from that album got a lot of air play
Lizbot (host) 7:03:46 PM
Hello Mary! Thanks so much!! As you may have heard, Dennis and I have been talking MVM pod- I FINALLY saw Fitzcarraldo!
Mary Jones 7:04:34 PM
Oh cool! What a wild movie—definitely one of my favorites that we’ve covered!
Dennis Lobot 7:04:56 PM
@Liz I think I meant to buy “So” at 3rd Street Jazz and Rock in Philly, but they only had that 12 inch. So I just had a tape of So from someone else.
Lizbot (host) 7:05:40 PM
@Mary - SO good. It's crazy I hadn't seen it cuz I've seen a lot of Herzog. I knew it was special, but had been saving it for a rainy day. Your pod finally put the fire under my butt to watch it b/c I was't gonna listen to you guys talking about it 'til I'd seen it!
Brian D 7:05:54 PM
The goats, mini goats, horses, pony, geese and peacocks all say hi n congrats to 20 while on my walk. They'd have loved the music too but i could not share the headphones w all of them
Lizbot (host) 7:06:02 PM
@Dennis - My So tape got a lotta play in the car on road trips!
Mary Jones 7:06:52 PM
Oh awesome! I’m so glad we were the trigger—I hope you like the episode, we loved the movie—it really fired up my English major skills, too. Lotta Joseph Conrad in that movie.
Lizbot (host) 7:07:03 PM
@Grink - haha, I was at that I. Goldberg as a kid! Super close to my parents' in Haddonfield. The first place I ever drove when I got my license was the Cherry Hill Mall, not cuz I was much of a mall kid, but because it was an easy drive down Grove Street

I don’t know Bill Nelson but I loved that song
Lizbot (host) 7:08:18 PM
@DSM - Thank you!!
Lizbot (host) 7:09:35 PM
@Dennis - I love him and he's ridiculously prolific. I have a release of his that is many hours long! His early stuff is more like Acceleration, but then he started making this pretty, spacey synth songs that are a bit uncategorizable and beautiful. I love both incarnations of his work
Lizbot (host) 7:12:21 PM
@Brian D - amazing! I expect to hear about a mini-goat with headphones...possibly in its mouth...on your next walk. Sounds like you have neighbors like the ones near us who have a Scottish highland cow- AKA - mod cow with mod fringe bangs!
richard lyons 7:12:31 PM
Son of a Gun :)
Mary Jones 7:12:36 PM
Oh cool, I’ve only known the Nirvana version.
Dennis Lobot 7:12:56 PM
Nothing wrong with spacey synth songs!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:02 PM
@Richard - I love Flying Nun Records. Saw the Clean at the First Unitarian Church about 20 years ago and again at Johnny Brendas
Lizbot (host) 7:15:13 PM
@Mary - Nirvana did direct me to some bands I ended up liking way more. Cobain had a way of doing that! How many ppl found Daniel Johnston through him I wonder
richard lyons 7:15:42 PM
Nice! What a great church! I don't say that often :)
Mary Jones 7:15:43 PM
@Lizbot exactly! I definitely did.
richard lyons 7:16:40 PM
I saw them at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland OR about 10 years ago.
Lizbot (host) 7:17:09 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:22:23 PM
@Dennis - I never had any Israeli army sneakers from I. Goldberg, but I had a long phase of wearing work clothes/army jackets in my teens and early 20s!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:48 PM
I wore my fringe like Roger McGuinn's...
Lizbot (host) 7:24:20 PM
@Dennis - the best/cheapest were at the non-descript work clothes store in the now-defunct Pennsauken Mart! RIP The Mart! I loved their box of used work clothes name tags and company name patches for 25 cents each! My favorite I ever bought was "Lead Man Handle"
Lizbot (host) 7:25:12 PM
@Dennis - I also bought a Firestone tires work jacket there and wore it in Madrid and everyone on the street called me "Esssssteve" cuz of its "Steve" nametag
Dennis Lobot 7:26:40 PM
We had the Monkey Mart (Montgomeryville Mart) which was kind of the same thing as Zerns (RIP) and Quakertown-mart which is still somehow going, if anyone is looking for dusty GI Joe toys and Atari 2600 cartridges.

Dennis Lobot 8:00:00 PM
Thank you so much for this show!!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:13 PM
@Dennis - I am mildly intimidated by cardinals. One dive-bombed my dad's head when I was a kid - right on his bald spot - and drew blood! He inadvertently went to close to its nest!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:22 PM
THanks for hanging, everyone!
TAndy 8:00:27 PM
CONGRATULATIONS
Lizbot (host) 8:00:42 PM
Thanks for hanging, Dennis & Mary! Looking forward to more MVM!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:48 PM
Thanks Tandy!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:59 PM
Goodnight, Rob!
Dennis Lobot 8:01:03 PM
Oh no! Cardinals hate book sellers?
Lizbot (host) 8:01:38 PM
@Dennis - Evidently!
Ossy Hyouka 8:02:33 PM
💖✌✌✨✔
Lizbot (host) 8:02:34 PM
@Dennis - Cardinals would just as soon shred your rare books and use 'em for nesting!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:56 PM
(Might be a better use for some books, honestly)
Lizbot (host) 8:04:15 PM
See y'all next week I hope! Have a great week and take care!
