Hey Dana!
Dana K (host) 8:03:22 PM
oi oi oi
Dana K (host) 8:03:29 PM
hi bo, lizbot!
Liz Bot 8:03:37 PM
You kicked off my week and this is a nice bookend
Liz Bot 8:04:01 PM
Mon - Friday work week Dana
Dana K (host) 8:04:21 PM
now i'm here getting you ready for the WEEKEND
Liz Bot 8:06:00 PM
Read just brought us on a prog odyssey and now we have some hype for Friday night energy, which may lead to me maybe doing an extra word puzzle tonight. I already built a model of a cockatiel while Fripp the parrot sat on my shoulder chomping pomegranates. Madness.
CARLOS RAMONE 8:07:07 PM
@ Liz..tough to get those pomegranate stains out
ROFFLESTOMP 8:07:52 PM
A Good Friday! Gosh! Love it!
Dana K (host) 8:08:23 PM
Fripp is a madman!
Liz Bot 8:09:13 PM
@Carlos - I got just the thing for that! A oil-based spray with orange peel oil. Gets out all those berries and pit fruits my birds love to half of and then toss on the floor like petulant toddlers 🍓 🦜
ROFFLESTOMP 8:09:25 PM
OMG we have circled to Fripp again? Loops! lol
Liz Bot 8:10:20 PM
@Dana - Fripp was mad that George tried interrupted his pomegranate feast so he bit me. Follow that logic
Liz Bot 8:10:48 PM
@Roffle - Fripp is circling above right now.
ROFFLESTOMP 8:11:08 PM
lol!
Dana K (host) 8:11:11 PM
He's just expressing himself!
Liz Bot 8:11:53 PM
His shenanigans will be documented on the forthcoming KC doc, which is apparently all about drama with former band members fighting with Fripp, who wanted everyone to practice for a million hours to realize his vision. So yeah, this bird is aptly named and demanding. Good thing he’s cute and smart
ROFFLESTOMP 8:12:13 PM
Bite me and you get sold to a coal mine. Just policy.
Liz Bot 8:12:51 PM
Bite me and I’ll “throw you in the woods,” as Tom Scharpling would say
Liz Bot 8:13:52 PM
This band name is fitting since bird brains often goes for the nape of the neck
Zapshifter X 8:14:03 PM
Hey Dana k
Dana K (host) 8:14:30 PM
hey hey!
Liz Bot 8:14:51 PM
This song’s infectious
Liz Bot 8:15:04 PM
Hi Zapshifter!
Zapshifter X 8:16:08 PM
Hey Liz Bot!
Liz Bot 8:16:09 PM
Oh shit! It’s Die Goldenen Zitronen! I’m have older stuff by them. Used to play them a lot but then sorta forgot about them for a while. I gotta get this album
Liz Bot 8:16:20 PM
🍋 🇩🇪
Dana K (host) 8:16:31 PM
Yeah, they've been around forever but this album is only from 2015!
Matthew Maginley 8:16:46 PM
golden lemons?
CARLOS RAMONE 8:18:53 PM
Buenas noches a todos
Liz Bot 8:19:16 PM
@dana k - yeah, I haven’t paid attention to their recent stuff at all. I wasn’t aware of this album. 20 years ago era of Doubleplusgood they were almost regulars on my playlists
Liz Bot 8:19:35 PM
‘Night, Carlos! 👋
Dana K (host) 8:20:19 PM
goodnight carlos!
ROFFLESTOMP 8:21:07 PM
Buenas noches Carlos
Zapshifter X 8:24:59 PM
Good night Carlos.
ROFFLESTOMP 8:31:38 PM
Listening to Doubleplusgood since 2011. I have no idea though about playlists uncovered at Göbekli Tepe. Just loved the DJ's thru the years.
Dana K (host) 8:34:16 PM
ha!
Zapshifter X 8:35:05 PM
More cowbell!
Liz Bot 8:35:21 PM
@Roffle - Doubleplusgood has entered its 20th year, crazily enough! I hail from the days of the paper playlists!
Liz Bot 8:36:29 PM
@Roffle - Not sure what I’ll do for or when I’ll celebrate this anniversary but something will eventually come down the pike. I am indecisive about whether I’ll do it for the membership drive or later. Probably make it a separate thing
Dana K (host) 8:36:52 PM
you were definitely one of the first DJs i listened to regularly!
Zapshifter X 8:37:32 PM
Me too!
Dana K (host) 8:37:34 PM
DBTF is coming up on six years. No longer a toddler.
Liz Bot 8:38:11 PM
@Dana K - I’m honored! With every house move, I uncover old crumpled paper Doubleplusgood playlists. A bunch lived in a box that kept moving from basement to basement until they got moldy and I sadly had to toss ‘em
Liz Bot 8:38:41 PM
@zapshifter - 😀
Liz Bot 8:39:29 PM
@Dana K - I think back on all the playlist systems we ever had and all the website redesigns- too many to count!
ROFFLESTOMP 8:40:31 PM
@Liz Bot - Hey, I'm in. DBTF is a nice part of my life too. THE FUCKING BEST RADIO STATION EVER!
Dana K (host) 8:40:38 PM
I'm happy with the current playlist system compared to the other two I've lived through. Hope it doesn't change.
Liz Bot 8:40:55 PM
At least we’re in a studio that doesn’t leak now. The original WPRB studio where I was for the first few years leaked AC condensation all over the M section of the music library!
Zapshifter X 8:41:11 PM
@Dana k not just no longer a toddler but a modern day WPRB staple by now
Liz Bot 8:41:41 PM
@Dana K - I think the current one, but I’ve learned these playlist systems don’t usually have a lifespan of more than 5 years
Dana K (host) 8:41:48 PM
Aw, thank you!
Liz Bot 8:42:22 PM
*”like” not “think” 🤦🏻‍♀️
ROFFLESTOMP 8:42:38 PM
Liz Bot - OMG! The friggin' student center?
Liz Bot 8:44:16 PM
I wish I had recorded most or at least SOME of my old shows, but there are precious few recordings of Doubleplusgood from the first 18 years. I used to tape it on cassette when we had the old dual deck in studio B, but if you didn’t remember to remove the tape in time, it would automatically flip over and start recording over side A.
Liz Bot 8:44:47 PM
I guess it took a pandemic to regularly record my show!
Liz Bot 8:47:24 PM
For a while pre-pandemic G used Audio Hijack his computer to record my show while I was in studio
Dana K (host) 8:47:26 PM
I've always had the means to record my show and I'm still bad at doing it, even though people ask for it!
Zapshifter X 8:47:41 PM
@LizBot -some kinda miracle 'y' all didn't get legionnaires'disease
ROFFLESTOMP 8:47:43 PM
Posterity has become such.
Jon Solomon 8:49:33 PM
Hello! If you're doing your show via Audio Hijack, easy to record your show as you broadcast it.
Dana K (host) 8:50:46 PM
I'm actually recording this one as we speak! But time will tell if I actually bother to upload it.
Liz Bot 8:50:52 PM
Hey Jon 👋 Since 2020 remote shows began, I’ve been recording my show in Mixxx. Gotta record it anyway for middle o the night rebroadcasts. I was talking about pre-pandemic- I woefully rarely recorded my show back then
ROFFLESTOMP 8:51:18 PM
Take a lesson from Marvin Rosen. He logs his show wonderfully!
Liz Bot 8:51:34 PM
@Dana & @Jon - but yeah, I never get around to actually uploading my recorded shows to MixCloud! ONE of these days, I swear!
Jon Solomon 8:51:56 PM
I block out time the next day to archive, otherwise I'd get way behind.
Liz Bot 8:52:15 PM
@Rofflestomp- Oh Marvin is super-organized with a spreadsheet and all! 🐈‍⬛
Dana K (host) 8:52:15 PM
I wish I had Commie Francis' discipline when it comes to that kind of thing.
Liz Bot 8:52:29 PM
@Jon - Yeah, I gotta start doing that
Dana K (host) 8:52:29 PM
Marvin's too
Dana K (host) 8:52:52 PM
Marvin also has Beata's help! Maybe I need a wife.
jimbeaux 8:53:07 PM
This show is mind-melting 💥💥💥
Liz Bot 8:53:12 PM
There will be no shows and then suddenly a massive glut backlog of ++goods that will be overwhelming to tackle all at once
Liz Bot 8:53:30 PM
👋 jimbeaux!
Dana K (host) 8:53:32 PM
hi jimbeaux! that's what i like to hear!
Jon Solomon 8:53:44 PM
Looking forward to the Dana & Beata Radio Hour (Fall 2022).
Dana K (host) 8:54:04 PM
incredible
ROFFLESTOMP 8:54:14 PM
I cannot express how much I love Marin's shows.
Liz Bot 8:54:21 PM
@Dana K - Srsly! Beata runs a tight ship!
ROFFLESTOMP 8:55:10 PM
Marvins's*
jimbeaux 8:55:34 PM
Helllllooowwwwww friends!
Liz Bot 8:55:46 PM
@Rofflestomp - He keeps me buying new modern classical I hadn’t encountered before. I love arcana and whatnot, but he has such an impressive collection of modern composers, so many classical…well, discoveries!
ROFFLESTOMP 8:57:18 PM
@Liz Bot - You get it! Same!
jimbeaux 8:58:02 PM
Lovvve marvin. Esp the way he emphasizes when saying "LITH-uania"! He is smoooooooooth.
Liz Bot 8:58:34 PM
@Rofflestomp - I keep his marathon on and drowse to it and then have modern classical spiked dreams
Liz Bot 8:59:23 PM
@jmbeaux - he is the only guy who pronounces my husband’s surname with the proper Hungarian accent! Literally no one even in my husband family does it, but he is technically correct!
ROFFLESTOMP 8:59:25 PM
@Liz Bot - Me too
ROFFLESTOMP 9:00:26 PM
And Jon! Cool time of yeear!
Liz Bot 9:01:32 PM
😂 THIS ID
Liz Bot 9:02:06 PM
Making me relive my teen years working in a cat ICU that played Pure Moods AAAALL day long
Liz Bot 9:02:48 PM
@Rofflestomp - that goes without saying! I would posit Jon marathon dreams differ from Marvin marathon dreams.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:03:21 PM
Oh yea
ROFFLESTOMP 9:04:23 PM
Thanks y'all! nIGHT...
Liz Bot 9:04:27 PM
@rofflestomp - I like to shower during Lindstrom during Jon’s marathon. I recommend the experience. I think I astrally projected.
Liz Bot 9:04:56 PM
Yay for XTC cover bands!
jimbeaux 9:05:26 PM
I like that marvin announces every piece, which is helpful for such new listensa
Dana K (host) 9:06:25 PM
EXTC were so great, I was a little skeptical at first but I was so happy hearing those songs
Liz Bot 9:06:45 PM
Ya gotta love Marvin’s undying support for Alan Hovhaness
Liz Bot 9:07:16 PM
@Dana K - So happy to hear it! Glad you had a good time! Sounds like it would be fun!
ROFFLESTOMP 9:07:50 PM
I love Jon, but the rabbi would not approve.
Liz Bot 9:09:19 PM
@Dana K - Some cover bands are a lot of fun. I have seen about a dozen sparks cover bands at a sparks cover band fest! A lot were great. Also, dorkily, I went to see The Musical Box at the Keswick and loved it. They did The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway with all the original costumes and slides and the singer sounded just like P Gabriel so I could feel like a was 12 again listening to that album and wishing I could’ve seen that show!
Liz Bot 9:12:09 PM
@Roffle - ha! Christmas I’m usually tired and dirty from being up way too late wrapping presents and making cookies and this year a dense AF ginger Guinness cake, and by the morning I am a wreck and REQUIRE that 42-minute Lindstrom shower to survive the holiday!
Liz Bot 9:13:04 PM
@roffle - …and by “morning,” I mean like early afternoon, cuz before that I’m in Christmas trance zombie-state
Liz Bot 9:14:27 PM
I’ve got double-holiday weekend Passover-Easter extravaganza, so everyone is just getting chocolate-dipped macaroons and they can just deal. And maybe chocolate apricots.
Dana K (host) 9:15:04 PM
Lindstrom is always playing during the drive to my relatives' for brunch. Sadly they're just outside of broadcast range so it slowly deteriorates over the course of the ride .
ROFFLESTOMP 9:15:53 PM
@Liz Bot - Strange how those hours knock a divot in our attention! Love it!
Liz Bot 9:16:48 PM
Oooh, I like this song a lot!
Dana K (host) 9:17:03 PM
A star of DNE right now!
jimbeaux 9:17:15 PM
holy modal astounders...
Liz Bot 9:17:27 PM
@Dana K - I usually hear Jerry the Christmas Snail on my way to my parents’ in Jersey
Jon Solomon 9:18:06 PM
I wish I could get more into non-Xmas tracks by Lindstrom! Because that one thing is one of the best things.
Liz Bot 9:18:31 PM
Lindstrom Shower is like a meteorite shower or falling stars, but better.
Zapshifter X 9:18:46 PM
Lindstrom shower!
Liz Bot 9:19:08 PM
@Jon - yeah, George & I tried some other Lindstrom this year, but nothing compares
ROFFLESTOMP 9:19:42 PM
Drummer Boy knocked out of the park!
Dana K (host) 9:19:50 PM
i'm going to have to remember the lindstrom shower. but it feels wrong to put it on when it's not dec 25th...
Liz Bot 9:21:17 PM
@Dana K - Oh, it’s ONLY reserved for the marathon! That’s what makes it special! That, and the fact that I NEED it to wake me/soothe me on sleep-deprived Christmas Day!
Liz Bot 9:21:40 PM
I wouldn’t dream of doing it outside of the marathon. It’s my special holiday ritual
Dana K (host) 9:22:05 PM
last time i listened to music in the shower, it was tears for fears "the hurting"
Liz Bot 9:24:28 PM
@Dana k - are you gonna see TFF reunion show at The Mann? I was indecisive and didn’t get tix and now they’re probably extra $$$ from internet resale sites
ROFFLESTOMP 9:25:07 PM
I bought a shower speaker and love dragging it in the shower!
jimbeaux 9:25:22 PM
This rips.
Dana K (host) 9:25:25 PM
did it sell out already?
Liz Bot 9:26:01 PM
@Roffle - I am wish my beloved portable speaker right at this moment. My favorite purchase! I bring this with me everywhere
ROFFLESTOMP 9:26:25 PM
Nah, all over Amazon for less than 30 bucks.
Dana K (host) 9:27:26 PM
haha, i meant the TFF show! i too have a portable speaker that i love
ROFFLESTOMP 9:27:28 PM
I love Bluetooth stuff!
Liz Bot 9:27:28 PM
@Dana K - Dunno. I haven’t looked recently. Thought about it when they were going on sale. There aren’t that many shows I’m excited for at the Mann this season, but I love the outdoors setting- always have but the Covid safety of it all is a welcome bonus
Dana K (host) 9:28:05 PM
I have to actually look at what's happening this summer and get me some tickets. I've been putting off spending $90 on DEVO in NYC for next month.
Liz Bot 9:29:20 PM
Last year I bought the lowest level of Mann membership to get a discount on king crimson tickets for their “final” tour, so I had incentive to go to more shows there cuz of member discount. But I didn’t renew cuz I wasn’t blown away by what they had announced so far. Maybe better options coming in august and September…
Dana K (host) 9:30:07 PM
Are you going to Roxy Music? I've seen some people dropping serious $$$$$ on that one.
Liz Bot 9:30:23 PM
@Dana K - Here’s the problem with that - DEVO, come to Philly! I have only seen them in NYC. I have to motivate myself to make a whole NYC weekend plan.
Dana K (host) 9:30:49 PM
Right! I have to decide if I want to stay overnight and all of that or just make an exhausting day trip out of it.
Liz Bot 9:32:12 PM
@Dana K - Probably not. I really like a select bit of Roxy Music output and could take or leave the rest so I don’t feel compelled to see them. My cousin, however, is a mega-fan so I have no doubt she’ll be there. I do get a kick out of Bryan Ferry’s general shenanigans though
Zapshifter X 9:32:31 PM
I like to pronounce it liesure time.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:32:55 PM
Hope so, Mann has no guarantee for my ebike parking , so still waiting for that.
Liz Bot 9:34:06 PM
Speaking of the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem, I saw that early 2000s nyc music scene doc at Sundance online in January. It was…something. Was not happy how the focus was too much on just a few bands we all heard from plenty already.
Liz Bot 9:35:56 PM
George & I might see Aldous show in Philly. Did you see her when she played underground arts? I think Pethie went
Dana K (host) 9:36:54 PM
Yes, we both did! It was really incredible and emotional. There's some videos up on Youtube with me in the audience looking starstruck. Love her.
Liz Bot 9:37:29 PM
Aforementioned early 2000s NYC music doc is called Meet Me In the Bathroom and it’s by two Brits.
Dana K (host) 9:37:51 PM
Based on the book, right? (which i didn't read)
Liz Bot 9:37:57 PM
Yeah, I thought so. I remember Pethie mentioning another PRB dj being there and I was 90% sure it was you
ROFFLESTOMP 9:38:15 PM
Underground Arts! Good call either way.
Liz Bot 9:38:26 PM
That’s a show I might bring Hattie to.
Liz Bot 9:40:07 PM
These days she’s either super pumped for a show or she’s in a sort of holding pattern of waiting out the music her parents dragged her to see cuz we didn’t want babysitting hassle. Sometimes there’s an in-between.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:40:35 PM
Kids!
Liz Bot 9:40:48 PM
@Dana K - re book, yes
Liz Bot 9:41:05 PM
@dana - and I haven’t read it
Dana K (host) 9:41:48 PM
is hattie at the age yet where she's seeking out live music on her own? i guess i was 13 or 14 when i started doing that.
Dana K (host) 9:42:10 PM
(of course, my dad would take me to every show and then stand in the back)
jimbeaux 9:42:53 PM
We took one of our kids with us to a show in bklyn and it was fucking expensive with tix, train, subwayyyy
Liz Bot 9:43:07 PM
@Roffle - She’s a good sport. We bring her to some pretty out-there stuff and she doesn’t complain cuz she’s used to it! She’ll realize later how bizarre her show-going life was as a child! 😆 Most recent show we brought her to was experimental noise show at Audubon society sanctuary in fairmount park a few weeks ago 🐦
Zapshifter X 9:43:43 PM
@Liz Bot either way you're making wonderful memories that neither one of you will never forget.
Dana K (host) 9:44:31 PM
my dad came with me to EXTC on wednesday. funny because most of the folks there were his age, but they're my favorite band, not his. but he had a great time.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:44:37 PM
I wish you were my mom Liz! She will be right there one day. :)
Liz Bot 9:45:24 PM
@Dana - YES! She looooooooves talking heads and requested American Utopia, so we took her to that. On a cheaper tip, she loves a singer from Norway who goes by Girl In Red and was squealing with anticipation for that show for months. It was a couple weeks ago at Union Transfer and she got all dressed up and had such a great time! She loves to dance at shows she’s excited about
Colin 9:45:35 PM
I was 13 when I went to my first concert (sorta on my own) my dad drove us. pretty sure he hit up the pub while we were in the show. My mom is a folk musician, so i grew up going to concerts. the cure at the spectrum was my first with out family.
Dana K (host) 9:45:45 PM
oh yeah, girl in red is huge with the young folks!
Colin 9:46:16 PM
and hi ya friday chat!
Dana K (host) 9:46:21 PM
welcome colin!
Liz Bot 9:46:46 PM
@jimbeaux- depends on the show. American Utopia wasn’t cheap, but we didn’t have to get tickets for more than one kid. Often times though the tickets alone for cheaper shows cost a lot less than a babysitter does!
Liz Bot 9:47:52 PM
@Dana K - Hattie has been massively obsessed with Girl In Red for a few years now, since the first EP. She has framed albums and t-shirts and the whole nine. She loves the “do you like girl in red” code
ROFFLESTOMP 9:50:25 PM
@Dana K - Love refreshing to keep up with this music! Cool shit!
Liz Bot 9:51:16 PM
@Colin - hi! Yeah, I too grew up at folk shows. My parents are huge folkies so we went to a lot of festivals, saw my dad’s favorites a lot- Ritchie Havens at the Tin Angel many times, Tom Paxton, Pete Seeger (ha, there exists somewhere in my parents’ house a photo of toddler me sitting on P seegar’s lap at an outdoor show) Dave van Ronk signed an album for me at the Left Bank. Most of the shows I saw were folk until I started going to shows myself
Colin 9:51:18 PM
@liz, i'm out of the loop as far as babysitter costs, but i'm sure my mind would be blown with today's rates compared to the rates dished out when i was the one being babysat.
Dana K (host) 9:52:48 PM
I too grew up going to folk shows with my dad (started attending the Folk Fest when I was 3). If my dad invites me out to see a show now, it's going to be folk. Sadly never got to see Dave Van Ronk, I think he was supposed to play the Fest the year he passed.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:53:05 PM
@Liz, Dave van Ronk? Wow!
Colin 9:53:25 PM
liz, the first 22 summers of my life included the folk fest.🚒
Liz Bot 9:54:15 PM
@Colin- I used to babysit neighborhood kids for $5 an hour when I was aged 12 through 18! I didn’t even want to but my mom was a teacher at the school half a block away from our house and rented me out to all the local parents. Now it costs decidedly more and there are fewer neighborhood kids that do it and more CPR-certified adults. Thankfully I have a lot of parents/in-laws for free babysitting nearby!
Colin 9:55:05 PM
my mom is 81 and her and her friends still do a first friday folk sing. they rotate host's houses every month.
Liz Bot 9:56:10 PM
@Dana - He was actually super chatty and friendly when I met him, so I had a very positive impression of him. I was about 14 or 15. His speaking voice was the croakiest frog voice. My mom was like “don’t smoke!” after I walked away
Colin 9:56:13 PM
they all get together and jam on the standards.
ROFFLESTOMP 9:56:27 PM
In an age of murder children I would surely charge a ton more for sure.
Colin 9:56:49 PM
got all tech savy and even did it via zoom during the thing.
Liz Bot 9:57:28 PM
@Colin - My mom’s turning 80 this July, and my dad’s 83. They just went to see my dad’s longtime folk crush, Judy Collins, at the Scottish Rite a couple weeks ago
Liz Bot 9:57:43 PM
Ooooh, love this solo
Dana K (host) 9:58:05 PM
haha, my dad can't stand Judy Collins
Liz Bot 9:58:31 PM
So digging this set.
Liz Bot 9:59:54 PM
@Dana K - Haha, most of my parents’ folk collection is nothing like Judy’s overproduced sound. This had at least 95% to do with my dad’s obsession with Judy and her piercing blue eyes. He had her albums out staring us in the face in the living room all the time 😆
ROFFLESTOMP 9:59:56 PM
Judy Collins murdered Stephen Stills soul....
Liz Bot 10:00:31 PM
By I do like her baroque orchestral cover of Both Sides Now
Colin 10:01:01 PM
party parents! I brought my mom pizza this eve and we had wprb while we ate. tail end of recherche and a bit of dbtf. I caught her bopping a bit.
Dana K (host) 10:01:20 PM
then she's listened to more of this show than my own mother!
Liz Bot 10:02:08 PM
@Dana - My mom turns my show off the moment I play something she deems “weird”
jimbeaux 10:02:47 PM
I went to see George Strait with my ma when i was 14. We wild.
Colin 10:03:21 PM
lol. yall doing it right. rebel life!
Colin 10:03:49 PM
was it at a classic philly venue jim?
jimbeaux 10:04:49 PM
Colin...no, Aksarben Auditorium. Read that backwards.
Liz Bot 10:05:02 PM
I specially make a point of telling my parents beforehand if I’m planning out a show that I know will be more to their liking, but I’ve long since learned not to cater to them musically or limit what I play so they’ll listen. But I give them loads of credit for always playing records all day every day and taking us to loads of shows and having some fairly weird stuff themselves, well mainly my dad, who has all those old Nonesuch experimental electronic and serialist records
Liz Bot 10:06:02 PM
❤️ Roy Montgomery
Liz Bot 10:07:46 PM
My mom has a low tolerance threshold for experimental, harsh or even just 99% of my post-punk stuff.
jimbeaux 10:08:09 PM
That's sweet! One of my kids is also a prb listener, and has some Advanced Fucking Musical Knowledge
Liz Bot 10:08:42 PM
@jimbeaux - love that PRB Next Generation
Dana K (host) 10:08:59 PM
my dad always gets a heads up when i'm doing a 60s pop or folk show. he's usually not awake late enough to listen to my regular show.
Colin 10:09:26 PM
jim, i see it! silly me thinking everybody is from philly.
Dana K (host) 10:09:42 PM
my mom's just not that much of a music fan, but i did steal her green day and no doubt CDs when i was 11, which set me on the path of punk
Liz Bot 10:10:02 PM
Teach the children well! My kid has grown up on a constant diet of WPRB. Amongst other things this resulted in her knowing a ridiculous # of station IDs by heart.
Zapshifter X 10:10:08 PM
@Jimbeaux yeah sometimes I think my son listens more than I do.
jimbeaux 10:11:10 PM
My fam mostly listened to country, western, ethnic....nothing too wild.
yoni from kdu 10:11:34 PM
My mom does not care for my music at all but will still listen in from time to time. I'll get texts from her asking why I'm not talking about the bands. It's cute.
Colin 10:11:41 PM
my 11yo niece is actually asking me to send her music.
jimbeaux 10:12:27 PM
Yea zap...can get awkward when me & my kid are in prb chat together
Liz Bot 10:12:37 PM
@dana - im positive my mom has never heard of Green Day or no doubt. She isn’t even a boomer! She’s “Lucky Few,” pre-boomer. She does like some newer stuff, mostly in the folk realm, but she mainly just listens to the same 40 or so albums, whereas my dad is more adventurous.
Dana K (host) 10:12:54 PM
my mom was born in 1963 but will insist she's Gen X
Colin 10:13:47 PM
i have memories of when channel 12 would air old dead concerts and my dad would lower the lights, smoke the good smelling cigarets and crank that 20" zenith tv.
Liz Bot 10:13:56 PM
@jimbeaux - oh my gosh, Hattie has entered the chat a few times in the past 6 months! Mostly during my show. It takes some getting used to!
Liz Bot 10:14:50 PM
@yoni - 😆 mom radio constructive criticism
Dana K (host) 10:14:59 PM
yoni's mom has listened to my show too
Liz Bot 10:15:16 PM
@Colin - yes! She clearly views you as the cool uncle, then
Liz Bot 10:16:13 PM
@jimbeaux - I don’t know yr kids’ screen names. Maybe I’ve spoken to them in the chat w/o realizing
ROFFLESTOMP 10:16:16 PM
Life was not ever but weird as far as I can tell.
Liz Bot 10:16:19 PM
YESSSS
Colin 10:16:52 PM
liz, cool huh..i still have to google a lot of what she is telling me about.
Liz Bot 10:17:22 PM
This is my ALL-TIME favorite Arthur Russell! Wild Combination makes me so happy!
Dana K (host) 10:17:57 PM
yay!!!
Liz Bot 10:18:41 PM
Moms of DJs who’ve called the studio during my show: Chester’s mom, Factorial/Jetty On the Rocks’ mom.
jimbeaux 10:19:28 PM
He has just a couple fave shows, so kind of rare!
Liz Bot 10:21:02 PM
Jetty’s mom’s called led me to realize that our moms knew each other and I never realized they in touch for decades after they were camp counselors at the same Pine Barrens camp (Matolleonwquay) in the 60s
Commie Francis 10:22:13 PM
factorial's mom called during membership drive once and thought i was factorial
Commie Francis 10:22:20 PM
i felt flattered
jimbeaux 10:22:41 PM
So awesome. Yeooo Commiieeeeee
Zapshifter X 10:23:16 PM
Hey commie !
Commie Francis 10:23:51 PM
hi!
Commie Francis 10:24:11 PM
i'm listening to dana in between prepping for my show!
Liz Bot 10:24:20 PM
@Colin - When I was a kid and well into my teen years, channel 12 constantly out a dead concert for their In the Dark tour on as well as the Touch of Grey music video with the skeletons. My parents weren’t into the Dead, but left on PBS a lot, esp before we had cable
Liz Bot 10:24:33 PM
Hi Commie!
Liz Bot 10:25:37 PM
I love B-2 Unit. Played this album by the bay in LBI from beginning to end last summer. Hattie is into YMO & Ryuichi Sakamoto. I showed her old YMO shows and Downtown 81
Colin 10:25:56 PM
um... this track is fantastic!!!
Colin 10:26:46 PM
it's my first ryuichi track.
Liz Bot 10:27:48 PM
Japanese gentlemen, stand up please! Ever read the Sakamoto interview where he talks about how he didn’t like the playlist at his fav restaurant in NYC so he took it upon himself to make them a new one of stuff he’d enjoy hearing while eating and they use it now instead. That is one baller move
Liz Bot 10:29:24 PM
@Colin - I bought Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Techno Bible (compilation of his band Yellow Magic Orchestra) when I was a teen. It was a great decision!
ROFFLESTOMP 10:29:32 PM
I gotta get, but thanks for the cool show Dana! Awesome folks dropping by. My fave peeps. lol!
Dana K (host) 10:29:43 PM
thanks for hanging out ROFFLE!
Liz Bot 10:29:55 PM
Gary! Wilson! File under artists who’ve called the station when they heard their own work on air
Dana K (host) 10:30:01 PM
haha, when was that?
Colin 10:30:04 PM
the looks i would get if i showed up at my favorite dining spot with my own sound track to play while i ate. lol
Liz Bot 10:31:24 PM
@Dana - When Mary Had Brown Hair came out, so like ‘04, during my show! Had a nice exchange with him! Saw him in NYC twice around that time
jimbeaux 10:32:09 PM
Bye bye peeps...gotta 430am bike ride
Liz Bot 10:33:53 PM
Artists who’ve called about hearing their own music during my show: Gary Wilson and Monty from Symarip. Doug Milman of Chemicals Made of Dirt and Jim Whittemore of Scientific Americans and Chris Freeland of Oxxes emailed to thank me for playing their music, which was cool, but talking to GW was a trip. I had a dream of interviewing him in while he gave a tour of Endicott to point out all the spots he mentions in his songs
Liz Bot 10:34:28 PM
‘Night jimbeaux! Have a safe ride!
Dana K (host) 10:34:38 PM
goodnight jimbeaux!
Dana K (host) 10:35:20 PM
I've had a few emails and instagram messages...i think the most excited was a guy from the 80s Albany NY band The Verge
Liz Bot 10:35:36 PM
@Colin - yeah I think only a precious few can get away with that move! I wish I could do that! Ryuichi Sakamoto had apparently been eating there for years and they were very familiar with his music. He lives in NYC
Liz Bot 10:38:45 PM
@Dana K - yeah the emails/ messenger messages happen more than the calls (well obviously these days we cant get calls! I miss some of the regular callers who never made the switch to the chat.) had some good emails over the years, but those were the highlights for me. Gary Wilson is just such an enigmatic dude, it was funny hearing his voice. He played at Other Music and did a few nyc shows in a short span of time, all with the gauze wrapped around his face
Colin 10:38:46 PM
night jim, sounds like a great destination for a 4:30am ride.
Dana K (host) 10:39:55 PM
i remember hearing about some of those shows in the 00s. i had a friend in high school who got me into them (one of the only guys from my high school who had a proper strange taste in music) was considering going.
Liz Bot 10:43:27 PM
Thank goodness for fellow weirdos in high school. There were too few
Liz Bot 10:46:32 PM
Such crisp hand 👏
Liz Bot 10:46:58 PM
👏…👏…👏
Colin 10:47:20 PM
meanwhile, i was just over telling the cat, in the wrestler wprb promo voice, 4 out of 5 moms approve of their children's radio shows
Dana K (host) 10:48:03 PM
leonard the cat has been supervising this show from my bed
Colin 10:48:05 PM
👏 🎸👏🎸
Colin 10:50:21 PM
radio cat boss says more tuna!
Liz Bot 10:51:01 PM
@Colin - 😆
Liz Bot 10:52:12 PM
Colin, the cat circus I took my kid to 8 or so years ago had a drumming cat named Tuna. We bought a Tuna the cat t-shirt 🐈
Liz Bot 10:53:09 PM
🤔 They were…theoretical girls
Andy Wing 10:53:35 PM
Simon Fisher Turner, there's a name I haven't heard in decades.
Andy Wing 10:54:25 PM

Liz Bot 10:56:22 PM
Really loved tonight’s show, thanks Dana!
Dana K (host) 10:56:25 PM
oh yeah! i actually have that on LP!
Dana K (host) 10:56:34 PM
thanks everyone for tuning in, great chats tonight!
Andy Wing 10:56:51 PM
Turner's "Dark Melt" was featured on Brave New Waves in the early 90's.
Colin 10:57:23 PM
in my head, arriving at the cat circus only to see the tent half clasped, all scratched and ripped to bits with the sounds of numerous cat fights going on.
Dana K (host) 10:57:37 PM
simon turner was also the king of luxembourg and a member of the the...and a child actor...
Liz Bot 10:59:27 PM
@Colin- Accurate description. Cats bailed from the act and ran off into the audience multiple times. That was of course part of the appeal!
Matthew Maginley 11:00:13 PM
nice show, thanks! have good night
Colin 11:00:16 PM
show got into some good zones tonight. cheers and peace to all.
Liz Bot 11:00:29 PM
