Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:37:30 PM

That one performance (Fatoumata Diawara) went a long way to redress some of latest horrors of the world. Her music is powerful and healing. I can't put it into words, but everyone there knew it. Many of the audience were invited onstage by the end, to all dance together. Pure joy.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 12:45:48 PM
Her husband is guitarist Rez Abassi.

Brian D 2:08:02 PM
My uncle used to play the Firesign Theater lps for me. Recorded onto cassettes for the drives of course. Decades later i found a comp cd in the library and borrowed it for a road trip. Good time. Yeah just heard about the House passing that
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:09:12 PM
Russ can speak Firesign Theater verbatim for hours on end
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:09:33 PM
Your uncle wa very hip!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:10:13 PM
Was he trying to "enlighten" you?
Brian D 2:10:36 PM
Life was one long blank Maxell 90 min tape back then in the 80s 90s for me
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:12:05 PM
Cool!
Earth, Wind & Mok 2:12:06 PM

Patrick White 2:12:24 PM
I think the last people using cassette tapes were me and AL Queda.Homeland Security was suspicious of me.
Brian D 2:12:26 PM
Ya i taped so many of his lps. He had quite the collection. Big Dahlquist speakers w the wool like cloth covers, Nakamichi tape deck. I forget the make of his linear arm turntable
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:12:56 PM
Haha, Patrick! They were before that!
Patrick White 2:13:20 PM
Last vendor selling cassettes was the Vietnamese couple in 9th street Italian Market.
Brian D 2:15:31 PM
When Jerry G passed Maxell company put out a cool tribute advert in Rolling Stone etc. Had a couple "J-card" inserts from an XLII 90 min tape filled out with the sets from 07-09-1995 last show ever in Chicago.
Patrick White 2:15:47 PM
Have you now or ever been a member of the Cassette Tape Party?
Brian D 2:17:36 PM
And Volkswagen did a tribute ad too. A black and white sketch of the front of a 2 tone VW bus with a teardrop coming out of one of the headlights
Brian D 2:18:14 PM
Life was one long cassette party
David Shortell 2:18:21 PM

Brian D 2:47:07 PM
Jerry check out the artist known as Tuluum Shimmering on Bandcamp. They do magical extended reinterpretations of classic songs like this one here. Very stripped down. Meditative. Very interesting. Heard on Jon Solomon show
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:47:31 PM
Thank you Brian, that interests me!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:48:15 PM
Taste and I forgot to mention midwestern favorites SRC. They were great
Brian D 2:48:26 PM
They take a shred or more of the basic melody and or riff etc. And just take the song on a journey into space and beyond.
Brian D 2:48:48 PM
Very relaxing
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:48:50 PM
Wow that sounds good
Brian D 2:49:43 PM
Cinnamon Girl was another. I think they took fan requests to construct some

Aside from their phonographic records, the Firesign Theatre did stuff in other formats too. There’s one Nick Danger skit which they only performed on a 1981 episode of “Evening at the Improv”, I think.
