I have to recommend Exuma over Nassau/Freeport/the more touristy islands! Exuma only has a population of about 7000 and a lot of the land is protected. It's surrounded by hundreds of little cays, some owned by celebrities, but the Bahamian government took Nicolas Cage's island back from him once they discovered a large wild iguana population on it! They bought it back from him and now it's protected. We visited the iguanas by boat one day

@Lizbot, when I read that Windshield Wiper won thr Oscar, I was in disbelief. The one short with the LEAST artistic merit! I found the style cool to look at, but the creators ripped off Richard Linklater, and the "story" went nowhere and was annoying. Ugh.

I thought Robin Robin was a shoe-in for its fuzzy, cute family-friendliness. I'm glad I don't bet! 💸

@Christine - Exactly!! I was so pissed! I would have been happy with any of them winning over that clap-trap! It was so corny and unoriginal, and felt like it was just trying to elicit cheap tears. I wish Affairs Of The Art had won!

@Mark - I hadn't been to the Bahamas since 1986 when I went to Freeport with my family. I took one look at what Freeport and Nassau look like now and steered clear. All giant chain hotels and casinos

@Dan C - I read an interview with the son of the guy who was Connery's stand-in scuba double in Thunderball. He was a brit who lived in the Bahamas. Typical Scot, can't swim! None of my Irish fam could swim either! Water too cold and rough in Ireland and Scotland. Irish Sea and North Atlantic aren't forgiving. That's why there are so many trad songs about drownings! Fisherman who can't swim !

@Christine - For tropical places, I like to do that schedule, or go out every day very very early if I'm in an equatorial place, like when I was in Costa Rica - get up at 4 am, go birding from 5-10 am, get back by 11 am, eat lunch and nap when it gets extremely hot! Good thing the sun rises so early there!

@Mark - Yes! I grew up with an older brother who lived for Bond movies and controlled what we rented on weekend nights when our parents would give us some money for the video store. Certain Bond movies (all Connery or Moore, we didn't mess with Lazenby, and Timothy Dalton hadn't come along yet, let along Pierce Brosnan,) I saw MANY times, but Thunderball was not one of our favorites
