7:01 AM		Sleepytime Gorilla Museum A Hymn to the Morning Star Of Natural History Web of Mimicry 2004 Founded in Oakland, California in 1999 - disbanded in 2011. A unique avant-prog-metal band using some home-made instruments, famous on the west coast for their dadaistic live shows.
7:05 AM		Vas Moksha Feast of Silence Narada 2004 Vas (the Latin word for vessel), was around from 1997-2004, and was comprised of Iranian born vocalist Azam Ali and American born percussionist Greg Ellis. After the dissolution of Vas, Greg Ellis has provided percussion for many films, television shows and commercials. Azam Ali has thrived with the group Niyaz, diverse solo projects and collaborations, video games and film soundtracks.

When she was 15, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother. Classically trained in the santour, it was her singing voice that got everyone's attention.

7:27 AM		Steve Tibbetts Hellbound Train The Fall of Us All ECM Records 1994 One of the more active of Tibbetts' releases.
7:34 AM		King Sunny Ade Sunny Ti De Ariya Juju Music Universal-Island Records Ltd. 1982 Born 22 September 1946, in Oshogbo, Ondo State, Nigeria. He came on the music scene in 1966 and made his first record in 1967. He became an international star across Africa. He attained international fame during the mid-1980s, mainly after the release of this LP on Island Records. He said "hello" to me once as I sat outside a venue in Philadelphia in the late 80's, showing up ridiculously early to get a front row seat at his concert.

7:44 AM		Jamael Dean Oranmiyan R N Primordial Waters Stones Throw Records 2021 Keyboardist and compose, he has worked and performed, with Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. Vocals by Sharadha Shashidhar, niece of WPRB's own DJ Jayashri.
7:49 AM		The Mahavishnu Project Earth Ship Return To the Emerald Beyond Cuneiform Records 2007 Led my drummer Gregg Bendian, they are a Mahavishnu Orchestra cover band.
8:01 AM		Alphataurus Ombra Muta Alphataurus AMS 1973 Alphataurus was formed in 1970 in Milan, disbanded in 1973, and reformed in 2010. One of those legendary Rock Progressivo Italiano bands who typically had one great LP and vanished. They are obscure in the annals of general progressive rock, but much appreciated by Italian prog fanatics who venture beyond the more well-known groups. "I come in peace!"
8:10 AM		Univers Zéro Dense Ceux du dehors Sub rosa 1981 Founded in Brussels, Belgium in 1974 - Disbanded in 1987 - Reformed in 1999. With a musical vision that is at the same time dark and ominous, yet stylish and sophisticated, Univers Zero are one of the most unique and influential bands ever to be associated with progressive rock, and the creators of the genre known as 'chamber rock'. They are a core founders of the movement known as "Rock in Opposition" (RIO). Ceux du dehors = those outside

8:29 AM		Quique Sinesi & Cesar Franov Sudan N Viento Sur V/A Vampisoul 2022 From another great compilation that has been flooding the market lately. This one "Viento Sur: Experimental and Fusion Music from Argentina" will be released in April. This track was originally issued in 1981 on this record.
8:37 AM		Minimum Vital Les mondes de Miranda La source Musea 1993 French medieval prog group that sings in various languages. (I haven't been able to figure out which languages.) "La Source" is their 3rd release.
8:43 AM		Chad Wackerman Close to Home The View CMP Records 1993 Chad Wackerman was born in Long Beach, California ( 3/25/60). From 1981 to 1988 he toured and recorded 26 albums with Frank Zappa, played and recorded with Allan Holdsworth (1982-1998), Steve Vai, Andy Summers and others.

8:53 AM		David Fiuczynski & Rufus Cappadocia Roxy Migraine KiF FuzeLicious Morsels 2003 Born on 5 March 1964, Fiuczynski describes himself as "a jazz musician who doesn't want to play just jazz." He has appeared on over 95 albums by other artists, as well as a handful of albums under his own name.

9:02 AM		Garmarna Ur världen att gå Förbundet Season of Mist 2020 Swedish Prog-Folk band Garmarna have a unique sound: firmly based in Swedish traditional music but influenced by the rock tradition they've all grown up with. They ignore the unwritten laws of how traditional music should be performed.
9:06 AM		Guapo II. Black Oni Ipecac Recordings 2004 Founded in London, UK in 1994, they are an avant-prog band that inhabits a realm between Zeuhl and post-rock.
9:18 AM		Larval Last Ditch Obedience Cuneiform Records 2003 Larval was founded in Detroit in 1995, and is another RIO band that merges post-rock with avant-prog.
9:29 AM		Jean-Luc Ponty Imaginary Voyage, Pt. 4 Imaginary Voyage Rhino Atlantic 2005 Jazz fusion violinist born on 29 September 1942 in Avranches, France. Besides his solo work, he has collaborated with many (Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever).
9:36 AM		Fareed Haque & The Flat Earth Ensemble Uneven Mantra Flat Planet Fareed Haque 2013 Fareed Haque is a jazz and classical guitarist born in 1963 to Pakistani father and Chilean mother. "The Flat Earth Ensemble" is a one-off collaboration between 13 jazz and Indian classical musicians.
9:46 AM		Miriodor La Roue Cobra Fakir Cuneiform Records 2013 Miriodor is an RIO / avant-prog band from Quebec City, founded in 1980. After 3 self-releases in the 80's, they were picked up by Cuneiform Records.

9:53 AM		Jimi Drouillard Apostrophe / Pajama People Zappa's Songs Le Triton 2018 Jimi Drouillard is a French fusion guitarist, and fan-o-Zappa. I am not aware of any legal action by the Zappa Family Trust against this recording (but I have to assume Drouillard was contacted). As a record label, Le Triton is focusing on releases anchored in creative jazz and progressive musics, with a strong Zeuhl presence.

Yeah, WPRB is a tremendous resource.

Azam Ali's voice definitely has my attention as the description says.

More than once I have been watching a film, and recognize her ethereal voice in the soundtrack.

It's usually some mystical event.

I had similar experiences with that one song by The Dead Can Dance, usually would play during a dramatic or similarly, mystical, event.

As long as the songs don't get over-used, like "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber. It's such an emotional composition, but becoming a cliche in so many films.

@ Dave I had a similar moment in 2019 when I went to a UK Dub(step) party with a friend to see a DJ who I always love to see. Still mixes strictly vinyl only to this day. After the show he walked up to me, shook my hand, and said he liked my vibe. Nearly killed my knee dancing like hell but it was a hell of a time.

Whatever the case, Ms. Huong is yet another wonderful non-Western artist revealed to me by WPRB. You're the best!
