Alan Pasnyk 6:11:23 PM
Hi Addie! Brian, and of course Mr Slithers!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:11:36 PM
My week was okay! I didn't make my famous corned beef and cabbage this year...but it's a heavy lift what with the 48-hour brining - next year I think I will plan ahead!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:12:26 PM
Hi Addie! Welcome - time for chillax and shenanigans!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:12:54 PM
Akan- lol - slight hyperbole there, but I don't mind at all!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:13:18 PM
*Alan* that is...i cannot type today
Alan Pasnyk 6:13:24 PM
BTW Nice Moonrise at about 7:45 Daylight time here on east coast, During end of Readie's show...

Mr. slithers sends his greetings, Alan! 🐍🐍🐍
Alan Pasnyk 6:16:25 PM
@ Addie: It must be hard to put a leash on him to take him for a walk...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:16:36 PM
Time to dance in the mystical circle tonight! Mr. Slithers too of course!
DSM 6:16:51 PM
Hey Readie! That sounds like a quality corned beef you make.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 6:17:22 PM
Evening everyone
Readie Righteous (host) 6:17:31 PM
Hi DSM, yes, I corn the beef the old fashioned way... it melts in your mouth!
DSM 6:17:32 PM
Addie, I saw 3 separate snakes on my hike this afternoon, they are out and about!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:17:36 PM
@alan he’s off-leash trained. Very good at heeling.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:17:42 PM
Welcome, Rob!
Alan Pasnyk 6:18:00 PM
Hi Rob, DSM!
DSM 6:18:10 PM
Hey Alan!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 6:18:15 PM
Hello Readie and Alan
Addie Plum 🐍 6:19:06 PM
@DSM that’s so exciting! They’ll be out here soon, too!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:20:17 PM
I saw a milk snake here two summers ago. I was tickled pink!
Alan Pasnyk 6:20:36 PM
@ Rob saw some Robins up in the Doylestown area, but no Red Wing Blackbirds yet..
Readie Righteous (host) 6:21:07 PM
Lots of Robins here in central Jerzie
Alan Pasnyk 6:23:31 PM
I used to go on Nature Walks at Peace Valley Nature Center near Doylestown. The Naturalist there said that Red Winged Blackbirds are the true indicator of Spring as some Robins hang around sometimes during winter..
DSM 6:23:37 PM
Milk snake is a nice sighting Addie! My brother found one in his bathroom towel closet last year!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:23:52 PM
Now THAT would be a surprise.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:24:19 PM
How big are milk snakes, Addie?
Addie Plum 🐍 6:25:46 PM
Had to look it up…3-5 feet! This one was just a baby tho
Alan Pasnyk 6:27:29 PM
...Better snakes than mice, at least snakes eat Bugs!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:27:31 PM
Oh wow! That's a good size! Yikes. Here, we were warned about coyotes in the neighborhood..
Readie Righteous (host) 6:28:14 PM
I got myself a nice hickory walking stick...so I am prepared for any eventuality...
Alan Pasnyk 6:28:57 PM
@ Readie: A "Shelalie" stick?
Readie Righteous (host) 6:30:03 PM
Well, it's not a shilleleigh (made in Texas, not Ireland), but a reasonable facsimile thereof...
DSM 6:31:17 PM
This Bill Evans is just lovely right now
Brian D 6:37:08 PM
Yea Bill E is heavenly
Alan Pasnyk 6:37:59 PM
During the Stravinsky concert riot, someone had the dim-witted idea that flashing the house lights on and off would calm the crowd. It just made them more crazy!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:38:32 PM
Ooo, candles. Good idea!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:40:28 PM
I think Hanna has been playing this quite a bit. It’s really cool!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:41:04 PM
Yes Addie, I love the glow of candlelight! It's still pretty bright here, though!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:42:05 PM
Same here, but the candles still add a lil extra oomph.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:42:11 PM
@Alan, yeah, what a wild night! It's tough being a creative visionary!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:42:25 PM
@Addie- Agreed!
Alan Pasnyk 6:42:47 PM
The Pennsylvania Railroad was once the largest company in the world. Source = PBS special that I watched years ago.
Addie Plum 🐍 6:42:47 PM
My cats are intrigued by the locomotives.
Addie Plum 🐍 6:42:59 PM
The snake is indifferent.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:43:36 PM
I was wondering if anyone else was playing this! I live a few miles from the RR tracks, and I love to hear the trains!
Alan Pasnyk 6:44:29 PM
I worked for Conrail once, as a Clearance Engineer, then there was a big layoff at Pittsburgh South side, got laid off unfortunately.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 6:44:37 PM
@Alan & @Readie, yay for your robins! They are all over my part of Maryland
Readie Righteous (host) 6:44:57 PM
I'm summoning Alex C.- former 'PRB DJ who was also a train engineer!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:46:11 PM
I grew up next to the speed line in Collingswood. Have always loved train sounds! We have an Amtrak that goes through town at night here.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:46:13 PM
Cool, Alan - working for Conrail! I bet that was interesting!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:46:44 PM
A far-off train whistle is so romantic, isn't it?
Addie Plum 🐍 6:47:25 PM
Very!
Alan Pasnyk 6:47:55 PM
I live not too far from "Park Junction" in Fairmount section of Philly. One of my most memorable experiences was watching a "GP" locomotive coming out of an underground tunnel..The Ground SHOOK !!!
Alan Pasnyk 6:49:04 PM
... it was hauling about 80 or so empty coal cars..
Readie Righteous (host) 6:49:22 PM
Where I grew up in Scranton, PA, the Erie-Lackawanna would take you to NYC...a great trip when we were kids!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:49:49 PM
@Alan, so cool!
Coastal.Loon 6:52:03 PM
Hello Readie and fellow chatters, I hope everyone is well.
Alan Pasnyk 6:52:10 PM
@ Readie: My dad grew up in Scranton. When he was about 5 or so he got to know the nearby crossing gate guard, who put down the gate. Later that same man gave my Dad a lightly used bicycle for Christmas, my Dad's first Christmas present.
Addie Plum 🐍 6:52:11 PM
Come to think of it, I think I’ve almost always lived where I could hear a train.
Addie Plum 🐍 6:52:24 PM
Good evening, Loon!
Alan Pasnyk 6:52:26 PM
Hi Coastal !!
Addie Plum 🐍 6:52:52 PM
This song is a bop, Readie!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:53:14 PM
Oh yeah,Addie, bop on!!!

Coastal.Loon 6:53:48 PM
Hey Addie and Alan!
Alan Pasnyk 6:53:56 PM
... This Noura track moves like a train.
Addie Plum 🐍 6:54:03 PM
Mauritania has got it going on.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:54:20 PM
@Alan, that is amazing! What a sweet story - that's a real Scranton story...the "Friendly City"!
Coastal.Loon 6:54:41 PM
Always best to live near the RR tracks. The sounds will always lull you to sleep.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:55:42 PM
Hi Coastal! Yes, I love it too - and I can't remember living anywhere that didn't have a nearby train
Coastal.Loon 6:56:31 PM
Same here Readie, hope to always too.
Alan Pasnyk 6:56:34 PM
There used to be a Steam Locomotive that tourists could take to New Hope PA, I took a ride on it once, Lots of Smoke and cinders.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:56:51 PM
I second that emotion, Coastal!!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:57:14 PM
Yes, the New Hope Railroad...it still runs I think...
Readie Righteous (host) 6:57:34 PM
Goes to the Lambertville Station?
Coastal.Loon 6:57:51 PM
They still have some excursion, no steam to my knowledge though.
Alan Pasnyk 6:58:18 PM
@ Readie: Yeah, Right! Lambertville.
Readie Righteous (host) 6:58:43 PM
Scranton has "Steamtown" - and a train museum- the locomotive still does excursions I think...I must do it sometime!
Readie Righteous (host) 6:59:12 PM
Yeah, Steamtown has steam!
Coastal.Loon 7:00:02 PM
Black River and Western still has a bunch of rides they offer as well around Flemington, East Amwell, etc
Alan Pasnyk 7:01:08 PM
It would be cool to get dressed up in my fringe jacket and high plains cowboy hat and take a ride on one of those old Steamers sometime..
Readie Righteous (host) 7:01:21 PM
Flemington - That's fairly near me - I want to check it out!
Alan Pasnyk 7:02:21 PM
@ Readie: Dress for the occasion, Irish long dress, White Umbrella?
Readie Righteous (host) 7:04:32 PM
Lol @Alan - dress like Maureen O'Hara in "Quiet Man?
Readie Righteous (host) 7:05:37 PM
And you dress like John Wayne as Sean Thornton!
Alan Pasnyk 7:05:44 PM
... And take a camera, Definitely!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:06:10 PM
We should do a Recherché field trip!
Brian D 7:06:25 PM
New Hope - Ivyland Railroad is only on the PA side (no Lambertville). Goes from New Hope to you guessed it Ivyland. But they did not do the full jaunt that much in past years. Maybe they do the full ride for special occasions/rentals? They go from New Hope to Lahaska usually. I lived right next to those tracks at 2 different apartments for long time periods! Could not get away.
Brian D 7:06:43 PM
They did not always do the steam train, that was a treat once in a while thing.
Alan Pasnyk 7:06:50 PM
@ Readie:... Sounds good!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:07:11 PM
Oh, thanks for the scoop, Brian D!
Brian D 7:08:03 PM
I would see the train spotters out with cameras, video recorders and audio recording equipment when the old steam would ride by. Then they would pack up and ride to the next town and to it all over again. The train would "pose" and slow down for them. "Slow" is relative as that thing moves slow all the time heh
Readie Righteous (host) 7:08:26 PM
I wouldn't mind living in that area, @Brian - of course, lots of tourists...but a great area!
Addie Plum 🐍 7:08:55 PM
I find trainspotters so charming. I love how devoted they are!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:09:27 PM
I once dated someone Totally enamored of trains, and we took many trips by rail...very cool stuff!
Readie Righteous (host) 7:09:53 PM
Yes, Ian was devoted! And so knowledgeable!

Happy b-day Lykke Li!
StitchingPink 7:10:43 PM

Brian D 7:11:11 PM
Yeah I lived in Rushland a little spot on the map where time forgot. 90 degree bend in the road right at those tracks. About 12-13 years there. And then later in Furlong/Forest Grove area (near Pineville Tavern if you know that restaurant) for 8 years. That was out on a quiet road w horse farms and a kids day camp. Train right in the backyard.
StitchingPink 7:11:51 PM

Readie Righteous (host) 7:12:43 PM
How nice, @Bri! TBH, that sounds idyllic!
Brian D 7:13:02 PM
Going into the other backyard, in Rushland, you climbed a small hill, walked down a short trail and then STOP you were at the edge of a huge stone quarry. Right at the height where the vultures were circling.
Readie Righteous (host) 7:13:51 PM
Brian- you are painting gorgeous pictures in my mind! THEATRE OF THE MIND!
Brian D 7:13:52 PM
Yeah it was beautiful. Neshaminy Creek flowed right across the other side of the street in Rushland. Nice scenes down there too.

@ Brian: Pineville Tavern had an amateur night dinner I used to go to, friend of mine played Lead Guitar sometimes..
Brian D 7:15:19 PM
Furlong/Forest Grove residence was a great lonely road to walk down. Mill Creek (one of the many w/that name) on one side. Lots of wooded areas. Horse farms on the other. Saw all kinds of creatures.
Brian D 7:18:12 PM
Yep great food at Pineville! Small bar menu or the big menu sit down area too. Lots of Best Of's
Brian D 7:21:20 PM
O wow that title was in the playlist too w the word Trainspotting! Everybody knows the sound of a train in the distance... (Simon)
Brian D 7:25:41 PM
Del Fest ( Del McCoury of bluegrass fame & his family) music festival in western Maryland on the West Virginia border is situated right next to RxR tracks. So many bands for 3- 4 days often playing songs about trains RIGHT when a train passes & blows its sounds. Fiddles and 3-4 pt harmony vocals imitating the sound of the train too... great place
mark 7:26:02 PM
i just picked up a copy of trainspotting film today & have never seen before. how good and / or depressing is it ?
Readie Righteous (host) 7:26:39 PM

Addie Plum 🐍 7:32:11 PM
That would be wonderful, Alan! I like train travel a lot. I’d be into doing a lot more of it.
