I briefly got to meet Pat Mastelotto as part of a group at the Montreal Jazz Fest in 2017. King Crimson was one of the headliners.
Lizbot (host) 5:15:41 PM
@Alan - No, sadly. He will have his usual bird-sitter!
Christine 🦉 5:15:53 PM
@Alan, I'm hoping for clear weather that night!
Alan Pasnyk 5:16:45 PM
@ Lizbot: maybe a live-stream for Fripp of you flying!
Lizbot (host) 5:16:45 PM
@Christine - Nice! I'd love to be in Montreal this summer. Sounds like a great show and a great trip! I was in Vermont on a road trip last summer - so close to Montreal but the borders had only JUST been opened up during my trip and weren't yet when I was planning it
Lizbot (host) 5:17:15 PM
@Alan - hmmm, he'd like to have his eyes on whatever we're up to as much as possible, so I'm sure he'd like that!

Christine 🦉 5:19:59 PM
Likely as not, this will summon DJ Dave the Obscure.
Lizbot (host) 5:20:44 PM
@Rob - short flight to Exuma in the Bahamas - Actually, I really wanted to take a direct flight to keep things simple, but you have to either fly from philly to Nassau and then take a short puddle-hopper plane from Nassau to Exuma...OR fly to Miami and take a bigger plane straight to Exuma. I opted for the latter option! The reviews of the puddle-jumper plane co were NOT good! loads of cancellations and apparently flies?
Lizbot (host) 5:21:06 PM
@Christine - yeah, for real! I'm surprised he hasn't emerged yet
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 5:21:12 PM
Flies in the plane? Yikes!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:43 PM
haha, just noticed I typed "porgy" instead of "proggy". please forgive me, I'm groggy

Alan Pasnyk 5:22:20 PM
( Puddle jumpers might land in Puddle, "now everybody row")
Lizbot (host) 5:22:57 PM
@Rob - yeah....Wanted to just get away briefly to an island that wasn't too long a flight away.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:00 PM
So Exuma has friendly wild pigs who swim at the beaches...which accounted for maybe 90% of my decision to choose that island.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 5:23:30 PM
@Lizbot, I don't blame you. Be careful of the wild pigs though
Lizbot (host) 5:23:39 PM
@Alan - yeah, not a big fan of the puddle-jumpers! Had to take one from Milwaukee to Madison once. Was surprised they didn't have a more substantial plane available!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:18 PM
@ROb - We kept looking for wild pigs in Maui to no avail. But yeah, I wouldn't want to come into close contact with one of those! The pigs in Exuma are spoiled and very used to humans!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:46 PM
I haven't been to Exuma before but my sister-in-law just did the same trip and loved the pigs
Lizbot (host) 5:25:21 PM
getting all baroque here...
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 5:25:51 PM
@Lizbot, that sounds good! I saw a mini-pig last weekend, on a farm in its own little area near the road. It was adorable
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 5:26:29 PM
And there were 8 goats and 2 alpacas too. They all made up for not seeing the Sandhill Cranes I was looking for

Lizbot (host) 5:31:54 PM
@Rob & Addie - I am lucky that I have a friend who has 3 goats and lives 5 minutes from me!
Christine 🦉 5:31:57 PM

Really nice keyboard! Electronic or piano?(Ohio)
Addie Plum 🐍 5:33:16 PM
We hope to have goats here someday.
Lizbot (host) 5:34:05 PM
@Rob - Aside from my friend with the goats, Indian runner ducks, various hens, etc., there are two properties near me that are backyard farms. One has several alpacas and they live right on one of our dog-walking routes! The other house has a pony and a Scottish highland cow who has fringe in his eyes like a mod boy
Alan Pasnyk 5:34:40 PM
Love Ohio!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:18 PM
here ya go, Christine - more KC to commemorate your Montreal show!
Addie Plum 🐍 5:36:20 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:37:49 PM
@Christine - Yeah, I hardly play it. Was overdue. Was also considering something from Thrak - either Dinosaur, One Time or People
Lizbot (host) 5:37:58 PM
@Addie - glad you dig her!

Lizbot (host) 5:53:10 PM
@Christine - ha! scads and scads of scarabs (and maybe a few of those joro spiders
Lizbot (host) 5:53:39 PM
Hello Richard! ha, yeah I love Don Byron;
Lizbot (host) 5:54:55 PM
@Richard - his version is so upbeat! he mostly covers Raymond Scott on that album, and that is based on a RS arrangement of the tchaikovsky
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:56:19 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Actually, I didn't know Don Byron. But how fascinating your last post ... because when I heard that track, I immediately thought, "Raymond Scott?"
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:57:47 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Yet again ... a doubleplusgood intro to a new (to me!) composer and/or performer! Thank you!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:20 PM
no problem Richard!

American Utopia is an amazing and powerful film. I might see it again!
Lizbot (host) 6:04:16 PM
WOW. Gorgeous sunset out my window just now!
DSM 6:04:45 PM
Hey Lizbot! I just caught the end of that, sorry, is that This Fri /Sat?
Lizbot (host) 6:05:08 PM
@Christine - It's so good! The film really captures the live show so well. I saw it when it first toured in 2018 in Camden, then on Broadway last month, and saw the film in the interim.
Lizbot (host) 6:05:27 PM
Hi DSM! Yes, this Friday and Saturday! 7:30 at Princeton Garden Theater
Christine 🦉 6:06:05 PM
@Lizbot, a friend & I saw the Oscar-nominated animated shorts last Friday. Wow, what a mixed bag! Can we agree that one in particular is a shoe-in to win the Oscar? The fuzzy, family-friendly one.
Lizbot (host) 6:06:17 PM
@Richard - like many, my intro to Raymond Scott was through looney tunes that used Powerhouse and then I dug deeper and was amazed!
Lizbot (host) 6:11:45 PM
@Christine - Yeah, so first off, that was probably the darkest Oscar-nominated animated shorts program I can remember! By far! The cute bird/mouse family-friendly one was fine, and it'll probably win, but it wasn't my favortite, although I liked it just fine.
Lizbot (host) 6:13:06 PM
@Christine - One thing that was nice that I can't remember happening in MANY years is that there was NO Disney or Pixar short. Usually those win and it's just not a fair fight to pit those against tiny budget independent filmmakers! Those Pixar shorts are fine, but they win almost every time! So this time it's more of a fair fight...except that bird/mouse family-friendly is definitely a mainstream studio and biggest budget by far - I think it was amazon prime studios if I remember correctly!
Lizbot (host) 6:14:30 PM
Cheer-Accident double! an old one and a new one!
Ossy Hyouka 6:14:42 PM
What's ambient and rnb cooking?
Lizbot (host) 6:16:03 PM
@Christine - the only animated short I really didn't like was the last one in the program where it looks like the animator was VERY influenced by Richard Linklater's Waking Life and it felt a little derivative and sensational.
Lizbot (host) 6:16:09 PM
Hello Ossy!
Roffle... 6:16:23 PM
This piece is delightful Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:33 PM
@Ossy - I don't know what everyone else is cooking, but I'll be cooking up some ambient later!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:01 PM
Hi Roffle - Yeah, brand new Cheer-Accident album! I love them. They have been around since the mid-80s but never get enough recognition.
Ossy Hyouka 6:17:35 PM
Like the last slot, Lilli, with Peach Face and Niika!
Roffle... 6:18:05 PM
Thanks for putting them up there. Zounds! I love it!
Christine 🦉 6:18:27 PM
@Lizbot, it looks like Aardman studios will be winning another Oscar. And Windshield Wiper did seem like the animator used the same style. The effect is really arresting, but the story jumped all over the place, imo. Affairs of the Art was my favorite of the five.
Christine 🦉 6:19:18 PM
Did you see the live action short films, @Lizbot? I didn't.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:35 PM
@Christine - The shorts I'd like to win are either that funny but also very clever British “Affairs of the Art” one with Beryl and her psychotic sister who fits into L.A. culture a bit too well! OR Bestia, which was fascinating to watch, though disturbing as hell! Also liked “Boxballet," the Russian one, but maybe that won't win cuz...Russia
Lizbot (host) 6:21:17 PM
@Christine - I missed the live action shorts. They were showing at Ambler this week but I was too beat to go. Kinda bummed. Even more so wanted to see the doc shorts, which were also at Ambler this week
Lizbot (host) 6:21:45 PM
@Christine- Yes! Affairs of the Art was SO GOOD!
DSM 6:21:51 PM
whoa haven't heard this one in a minute, this was like a HIT when it came out!
Lizbot (host) 6:22:46 PM
@Ossy - Peachface is coming to Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park!
Christine 🦉 6:22:47 PM
@Lizbot, Affairs of the Art would be my pick. Bestia was very, very disturbing and difficult to watch, but it told the most important story. I agree that Boxballet won't win bc Russia.
Roffle... 6:25:56 PM
Arpeggio's are my sunshine!
DSM 6:26:32 PM
hard agree @Roffle
Brian D 6:27:31 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:28:11 PM

Brian D 6:28:45 PM
This is nice
DSM 6:29:18 PM
yes mam , leaf house
DSM 6:29:42 PM
& arpeggios, not sure which comment u meant actually
Lizbot (host) 6:29:48 PM
@Christine - Bestia was rough, but couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards and the animation style was so visually compelling, but I still like Affairs of the Art best for sure!
Lizbot (host) 6:30:19 PM

Ambrose Hughes 6:36:13 PM
Hello Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 6:36:20 PM
@Roffle / Carlos - enough so that I read the Irvine Welsh book after seeing the movie and then read his short stories. I think it was in The Acid House that he has a really funny story about a squirrel! You wouldn't expect that from the author of Trainspotting necessarily!

Lizbot (host) 6:40:45 PM
Everyone - the instrumental I used as bed music during my most recent mic break reminds me: See the movie "Strawberry Mansion" when it comes out! It's supposed to come to the Ritz in Philly in I think April. It's such an oddball movie but so good. Dan Deacon soundtrack really enhances it

I'm adding that to my list... 📝
Roffle... 6:43:14 PM
Totally had me at oddball! On my list too for sure now.
Lizbot (host) 6:43:24 PM
and Dan Deacon just won an award for his soundtrack to what is supposed to be a visually stunning doc about China that I have yet to see called "Ascension". He won the Outstanding Original Score at the 2022 Cinema Eye Honors presented at the Museum of Moving Image in Queens just a couple weeks ago
Lizbot (host) 6:44:54 PM
@Roffle / Christine - Yeah, I saw it at Sundance a year ago and was wondering when it was coming out! It never streamed anywhere. I was losing hope it would every get distro, and then finally I saw an annoucement that it was getting a theatrical release! I love the name, although a movie with that name SHOULD by all rights be shot/set in Philly, not Baltimore!
Lizbot (host) 6:45:46 PM
This EP I'm currently playing is Philly saxophonist Kyle Press who made this during a period of isolation during the pandemic and I've been really digging it. First time playing it on WPRB
Roffle... 6:46:46 PM
Baltimore and their funky tax breaks. Every corporations love nest.
Li Maria 6:46:51 PM
It really captures that "in isolation" feeling. Hi Lizbot and everyone!
Lizbot (host) 6:47:45 PM
Hi Li Maria! Yeah, I thought so! I actually listened to it in a sleepy state yesterday and it put me in a pleasant trance!
Li Maria 6:48:23 PM
I'll have to try that--always looking for sleep/trance music
Lizbot (host) 6:49:16 PM
@Li Maria - it was perfect! I love a good liminal track
Lizbot (host) 6:50:14 PM
@Roffle - Also got a pretty great DIY art scene in Baltimore. I am a fan of the venue The Red Room and their annual September festival High Zero. Lots of interesting film and visual art coming from that city
Li Maria 6:50:55 PM
And thanks for the intro to Lahki Astoria! I looked him up and cant' take my eyes off the mask. He looks like a human-sized doll!
Li Maria 6:51:50 PM
intriguing
Lizbot (host) 6:52:05 PM
@Li Maria - I know! Kinda like the Buckethead gimmick, but WAY cooler to look at!
Roffle... 6:54:51 PM
@Lizbot - A friend of mine is suggesting I move down there, but I have my reservations about Slower New Jersey.
Lizbot (host) 6:57:35 PM
@ROffle - I've never had a desire to live in Baltimore, but thankfully it's close for weekend and one-day visits for shows and events. Bonus: I have a friend in Luthorville-Timonium whose house I've crashed at a couple of times after shows.
Roffle... 6:59:06 PM
@Lizbot - Exactly! It's just a drive away. No need to put a ring on it. :)
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 6:59:53 PM
baltimore gets a BAM from me. only been there a few times so far but seems very neato! recommend going to "sideshow", the gift shop/WOAH shop at the american visionary art museum. so much more than just a gift shop
Lizbot (host) 7:01:02 PM
Hello Chef!
Roffle... 7:01:06 PM
That's a cool recommend Chef. Thanks!
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:04:27 PM
hello all! and yes totally, i think that most WPRBeings would enjoy it. Couldnt actually go to the museum that day since it was full but they let us in Sideshow lol
Roffle... 7:04:54 PM
RIP George A. Romero! The guy who made zombies cool.
Brian D 7:05:01 PM
Excellent! Hungry. And I like epics.
Lizbot (host) 7:06:10 PM
@Chef - I concur! The American Visionary museum is so great! And WHO could argue with the charm of Natty Boh?!
Lizbot (host) 7:06:32 PM
@Brian D - This is a 12-minute audio feast to consume your dinners to
Lizbot (host) 7:07:11 PM
@Roffle - Yes! George A. Romero, who had some principles and actually put some messages in his zombie movies!
Roffle... 7:07:39 PM
More BRAINS!
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:07:39 PM
the World Health Organization?!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:08 PM
@Roffle - And soon I will be visiting Pittsburgh again for the first time in years and it always reminds me of [the original] Dawn of the Dead
Brian D 7:09:00 PM
Picksburgh! Don of the Dead.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:09 PM
@Chef - yes, the World Health Organization has reached the conclusion that National Bohemian Beer is good for your health
Ambrose Hughes 7:09:35 PM
Mr Romero's not REALLY dead
Lizbot (host) 7:09:39 PM
@Chef - Dr. Natty says so, and he works for the WHO, right?
Lizbot (host) 7:09:51 PM
@AMbrose - hhhhmmmmmm. you might be on to something
Roffle... 7:10:01 PM
@Ambrose - LMAO!
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:11:28 PM
LMAO that brings me back to the episode of Emeril Live! when Dr Natty was my special guest. the censors were not happy. ha ha! BAM
Lizbot (host) 7:12:04 PM
@Chef, Oh, Boh! Incorrigible lad. He cussed so hard, his monocle flew off his face
Roffle... 7:14:16 PM
WHO brought the beers? Sweet! The Chef cooks up beef with a beefcake? The world is simply crazy as shit and I'm just fine with it.

Lizbot (host) 7:17:17 PM
Sad Baltimore story: Several years back I drove to Baltimore for an all-day public arts and music fest down by their (admittedly depressing) waterfront. I was looking forward to see Dan Deacon outdoors, and there were some sculptures and large-scale temporary art installations on display, plus a jazz group and some other bands. JUST Before the show was to start, the skies HEAVED and we and hundreds of other ppl made a dash for the nearby Shake Shack to get out of the downpour.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:00 PM
Sad Baltimore story, Part II: The whole festival had to be canceled and we shared a parking garage elevator with some VERY upset jazz musicians whose instruments got drenched, including an upright bass.
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:18:01 PM
dang nabbit @bot :( I hope your electronics were ok!
Roffle... 7:19:10 PM
Sums up Baltimore for me. lol
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:19:14 PM
Also they just renovated/opened(?) a park on the waterfront and i was there right after it opened and it seemed quite lovely!
CARLOS RAMONE 7:20:13 PM
@ lizbot… could have been worse..stuck inside Berthas mussels and compared them to Monks
Roffle... 7:20:28 PM
@Chef - I just know the waterfront from driving under it. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:20:58 PM
Sad Baltimore story, Part III: JUST BEFORE all that went down, we were leaving the parking garage by the waterfront and found you had to walk through a sad stained Hooters restaurant just to access the waterfront from the municipal garage. As we're crossing the concrete bridge from the garage to the Hooters, we see a guy flipping out at the car in front of him, stuck on a ramp below us in a line to get in the garage. He tries to pass that car and RAMS a cop car! ha
Lizbot (host) 7:22:21 PM
Happy Baltimore Story: My husband and a friend went to Bmore for High Zero years ago on a beautiful September day and were killing time between bands in a nearby park when I guy saunters up to them and yells "Watch out.....there's RETS!" (rats)
Brian D 7:22:23 PM
First Stereo Totale song i ever heard. Right here!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:08 PM
@Brian D - Nice! Not for the first time right now I'm sure! played this one for my Françoise Cactus tribute
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:23:24 PM
LOL i love the rets guy. speaking of city shenanigans, anybody know anything goin on or any suggestions for this weekend in nyc? a certain chef may or may not be there
Roffle... 7:23:57 PM
@Brian D - Next we'll be hearing the Moddets, but I am pretty sure that's been done here. :)
Lizbot (host) 7:24:58 PM
Buenas noches, Carlos!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:59 PM
@Chef - Hrmmm, yes. Go to The Shed at Hudson Yards and get a ticket for Tomás Saraceno: Particular Matter(s) wherein you can walk inside a giant spiderweb! I tried to go last month while in NYC for the weekend but I didn't get my ticket early enough. Get on it asap if you wanna be a spider
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:30:44 PM
Sidenote: has anyone else ever horribly mistyped Justin Timberlake as "Justin Tiemberlanke" and imagined him in lederhosen?
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:31:05 PM
also WOAH thank you so much @lizbot! i've always wanted to be a spider!
Lizbot (host) 7:31:40 PM
@Chef - Justin Tiemberlanke! Danke for that image!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:08 PM
@Chef - Now you too can join the hoards of joro spiders invading the eastern seaboard
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:33:03 PM
Are they gonna be the live chat's next big insect obsession?? first spotted lanternflies, then brood x 🤘, now joro spiders?
Roffle... 7:34:10 PM
Gotta head out for a bit, but thanks for the cool tunes Lisbot!
Roffle... 7:34:28 PM
*z*
Lizbot (host) 7:35:06 PM
@Chef - And then you'll have to dream up joro recipes. they hail from Japan so maybe take cues from Japanese cuisine. mmm, wasabi spider
Lizbot (host) 7:35:26 PM
@Roffle- Thanks for hanging, Roffle!!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 7:35:41 PM
Steaming Train!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:45 PM
@Rob - Can't help but bop around the room to Steaming Train!
Lizbot (host) 7:37:01 PM
I can't hear this song without thinking of my mom singing it
Lizbot (host) 7:38:17 PM
@Emeril - Here's some inspiration via Dinah Shore - Make a fly pie with joro spider crumbles
Christine 🦉 7:39:09 PM
This reminds me of my Mom, too. 💗 She would sing along to this when it came on the radio. She listened to a lot of WPEN.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 7:40:10 PM
I don't think my mom sang this song(?) but I did know about apple pan dowdy growing up
Lizbot (host) 7:40:14 PM
@Christine - haha, yeah this was a hit when my mom was a kid! On top of that, her parents owned a bakery, so very fitting
Lizbot (host) 7:40:25 PM
@Rob - Everyone's mom's favorite!
Brian D 7:41:11 PM
Oh we're rocking!
Lizbot (host) 7:41:36 PM

Ambrose Hughes 7:41:52 PM
DAMN speakers just woke up!😲
Christine 🦉 7:42:18 PM
I like the shoo fly pie song, but do not enjoy the actual pie.
Ambrose Hughes 7:42:43 PM
@Christine same.
Lizbot (host) 7:42:54 PM
I almost played Dinosaur by King Crimson today. Follow that with some Dinosaur Jr and I'm a Little Dinosaur by Jonathon Richman. Listen inside the Dinos in Peewee's Big Adventure
Christine 🦉 7:43:32 PM
@Bo, right? It's just gloppy sugar. Where's the FRUIT?!
Ambrose Hughes 7:43:56 PM
Fruit-less
Lizbot (host) 7:44:44 PM
a fruitless endeavor, that pie
Lizbot (host) 7:44:51 PM
I do like a pecan pie, though

I will be sure to report back on any and all swimming pig sightings in Exuma
Christine 🦉 7:55:24 PM
We need to know about the swimming friendly pigs!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:17 PM
I WILL be here next week (at least currently that is the plan...though I am feeling overwhelmed with everything I have to do to make my early morning flight the next morning, so I MIGHT try to get a sub, we'll see) , so Krista will be here two weeks from now, subbing for me on March 24th
Christine 🦉 7:56:31 PM
Thank you, Lizbot! 🤖 and Bon Voyage 🐗🐷
Lizbot (host) 7:56:44 PM
gotta love those pig emojis!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:52 PM
@Rob - oh wait, I misread! Now I see you wrote "I don't think my mom sang this song"! imagining everyone's moms forming a Dinah Shore cover band
Ambrose Hughes 7:58:19 PM
@Lizbot, thanks for this fantastically diverse show!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:54 PM
