Memories that emerge in the mind that get in the way of your own thoughts. I started noticing there was wings imagery, birds". She has mentioned that these themes were mainly influenced by Etel Adnan's Master of the Eclipse and Mary Carruthers' The Book of Memory.

Brian D 5:01:32 PM
Hello
mark 5:01:37 PM
ha great ID to open show :)
Lizbot (host) 5:02:46 PM
Hi Brian!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:49 PM
Hi Mark!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:15 PM
It's TOO NICE OUT right now and my kid is in a play tonight! I will see her tomorrow, but I feel her nervous energy from here!
mark 5:03:44 PM
what’s the electronica snippet at opening ?
Lizbot (host) 5:05:53 PM
@Mark - The station ID, or the beginning of this song?
mark 5:07:11 PM
the piece of electronic music that starts the show
Lizbot (host) 5:07:15 PM
today's show is very baroque pop, at least for a while!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:53 PM
@Mark - The tiny snippet before the station ID I played is a piece by electronic composer Laurie Spiegel from the 70s called Patchwork
mark 5:08:33 PM
yes ! thank you a sister of transistor
Brian D 5:10:42 PM
Pup or maybe Elliott played that Spiegel piece last year. Hey... I know that piece!
Lizbot (host) 5:10:49 PM
@Mark - yes, I'm a long-time fan of her, and she did appear in the Sisters with Transistors doc. I love her work!
mark 5:12:00 PM
and as all ++ good listeners know a bell labs pioneer
Lizbot (host) 5:12:48 PM
@Brian D - I've played it in full a lot! But yeah, it's also the track that I send to the station as my contact signal when I'm live remote broadcasting every week. Sometimes I do a different Spiegel piece, but usually Patchwork as my contact signal. We need to be sending a signal to the transmitter from our homes, us LRB DJs, before the end of the previous show so we know the transmitter is picking us up
TAndy 5:13:28 PM
Good afternoon Lizbot and Co.! This Owen Pallett song is very pleasant 💙
Lizbot (host) 5:13:47 PM
Hi Tandy! Glad you enjoy it!
TAndy 5:15:17 PM
Just woke up so this definitely feels like a fitting soundtrack
Lizbot (host) 5:15:36 PM
playing Anthony Roth Costanzo cuz I just realized this week I only have another month or so to see him in Philip Glass' "Akhnaten" in NYC
Bud Burroughs 5:16:25 PM
Ooooh, jealous! I've seen Akhnaten on TV, but don't know if I'll get to it in real life this time.
mark 5:17:08 PM
Does she sing bed aria from Einstein?
Lizbot (host) 5:17:46 PM
Hello Bud!
Lizbot (host) 5:18:32 PM
@Bud - Yeah, I have plans to get to NYC in May but won't be able to fit it in then. Gotta make another weekend trip up there soon!
Lizbot (host) 5:19:14 PM
@Tandy - Glad this is hitting that recently awoken spot!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:05 PM
@Mark - I believe so, but Anthony Roth Costanzo is man, just has a super high voice cuz he's a counter-tenor, like Klaus Nomi!
DSM 5:21:43 PM
Good evening Lizbot! I like that this piece sounds like it was built off a skipping CD loop!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:47 PM
@Bud - I think my kid would like Akhnaten. She had a ancient Egypt phase a few years back and I think she'd be into the set and costumes and she's used to me playing Philip Glass, BUT I don't think she'll be down for 3 hours of it. I think she'd get impatient at the 2 hour mark...maaaaybe not
Lizbot (host) 5:21:52 PM
Hi DSM!
Lizbot (host) 5:22:17 PM
@DSM - Oh yeah, it sorta does! This piece is awesome and also a bit wicked sounding
DSM 5:23:22 PM
Never heard it or her, and I'm enjoying quite a bit!
TAndy 5:23:25 PM
I am absolutely loving this!
Bud Burroughs 5:24:27 PM
It's an amazing spectacle, but yeah, it's long! Pretty sure I can't talk my wife into it :)
Lizbot (host) 5:24:33 PM
@Tandy - She's awesome! I scooped up all her albums!
DSM 5:25:19 PM
I have an old Gumby dvd I found playing in the background on mute, that Anna Meredith really made it seem sinister.
Lizbot (host) 5:25:28 PM
@DSM - I'm happy to spread the word of Anna Meredith! I'm always particularly interested in electronic music by woman composers
Lizbot (host) 5:27:02 PM
@DSM - haha! Maybe it felt more like Art Clokey's more experimental stop-motion claymation! That doc I saw on him a buncha years back, "Gumby Dharma," showed some of his trippy earlier work
Lizbot (host) 5:34:17 PM
I have to give at least partial credit to this Invisible Touch album that came out when I was first buying my own tapes for making me obsessed with synths
Joseph Meyer 5:34:38 PM
I have a lot of mixed feelings about Invisible Touch as an album, but I always thought that "The Brazilian" was an absolute standout.
George Korein 5:35:30 PM
When the Brazilian met the Samchillian
mark 5:38:54 PM
had to look up that album art. never would have guessed that sound was genesis
DSM 5:39:38 PM
@Lizbot, i'll have to check out that documentary, thanks!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:21 PM
Hi Joseph! Yes! I love a lot of earlier Genesis and Invisible Touch got very commercial. My favorite Phil era Genesis album is still Duke, and then I have a soft spot for a lot of the Peter Gabriel era stuff, but I have deep nostalgia for The Brazilian
Lizbot (host) 5:41:42 PM
@DSM - It's pretty good! Clokey had some family trauma he channeled for one of those darker early short claymation films
George Korein 5:41:55 PM
Feeling the Z
Lizbot (host) 5:43:24 PM
@Mark - haha, yeah. I liked that album cover when I was 10, and I liked drawing hands, so there you go! I also cut out that round lattice on the cover of The Who's Tommy with an x-acto blade and made a 3-D cover of that when I was in Mr. Cook's art class!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:37 PM
@George - Pamela Z is a badass.

Krista 5:49:52 PM
Listening while my baby snoozes next to me. Feeling happy and tired!
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:50:20 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Thanks for playing "Monsters of Grace." I heard Anthony Roth Costanzo at a Princeton University Dept. of Music showcase in Taplin Auditorium featuring then-freshmen who were declaring departmental majors in performance. Young Mr. Constanzo came out and took his spot. His pianist began, he opened his mouth and commenced to sing -- and my mouth (and just about everyone else's) dropped open. That voice! Clear, strong, impeccably pitched, beautiful and impossibly high. Wondrous!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:33 PM
Hi Krista! Glad she's snoozing while you rest! Looks like you worked hard in the garden today!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:58 PM
Playing Kate Bush reminds me - Night of 1000 Kates is happening in Philly later this month!
mark 5:50:58 PM
:) Kate finally makes an appearance!!
mark 5:51:35 PM
was just about to ask about 1000 Kate’s !
Lizbot (host) 5:52:24 PM
@Richard - That's wonderful! He was at Princeton in the earlier days of my doing Doubleplusgood and I wish I had seen him perform there! I did get to see some great shows at the University over the years.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:25 PM
@mark - Night of 1000 Kates is March 19th at Underground Arts!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:06 PM
I usually save this one for later in the spring and closer to Easter, but the weather has been so great and I couldn't resist!
Rob from Maryland 5:56:00 PM
Hello everyone!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:12 PM
Hi Rob!
Buck Wild 6:02:08 PM
Hey hey
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:02:22 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Yes, I also had the joy of seeing/hearing Anthony Roth Costanzo's senior thesis performance in Richardson Auditorium of Alexander Hall. A short opera (sorry, forgot the title) originally composed 3 or 4 centuries ago for the counter-tenor - maybe even the castratti! - range. Although ARC is NOT a castratti, his natural vocal talents have allowed him to perform that rare repetoire. It was special. I have an autographed program somewhere ...
Buck Wild 6:02:27 PM

Buck Wild 6:04:11 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:04:26 PM

Buck Wild 6:04:59 PM

Buck Wild 6:05:12 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:06:10 PM

@Carlos - ha, I was vegetarian for 20 years, and vegan for 10 of those years, but I am no longer, so I won't have any problems eating there! When I used to visit my friend in Madrid once a year (before she moved to Baltimore) I was vegan and those visits began in the 90s through the late-2000s and EVERYONE tried to serve me ham! There was even a chain called Museo de Jamón! ha!

And continues with Ameenatronics! Esoterica's long running song of Terry Riley A Rainbow in Curved Air was vivid wonderful!
Lizbot (host) 6:42:52 PM
@Carlos - The first time I got into Astor Piazzolla I wanted to go to Buenos Aires, and the more I read about BA, the more I want to visit there!
CARLOS RAMONE 6:44:13 PM
When my daughter went vegetarian in High School. My parents had a tough time with that. Pretty sure my dad had never cooked a vegetable on the parilla
Lizbot (host) 6:45:31 PM
@Carlos - haha, yeah my parents eat a lot of fish and chicken. They told me when I went vegetarian at 15 that I had to cook my own meals. I actually tried going vegetarian at 13 and got tired of cooking my own stuff, so I gave in, but by 15 I'd learned to cook for myself enough decent meals to subsist on!
CARLOS RAMONE 6:47:12 PM
Happy to say both of my kids are late 20 and both Vegan..
Lizbot (host) 6:48:10 PM
@Christine & Ossy - I love Rainbow In Curved Air! I played that last summer on ++good and one another episode of the show that was rainbow themed! I also played the 70s British band Curved Air back to back with it once! I love listening to Terry Riley by the ocean. Try it some time if you haven't! I sat by Barnegat Bay last summer listening to Rainbow In Curved Air, In C and Celestial Valley from his Shri Camel
Christine 🦉 6:49:50 PM
@Lizbot, I will have to plan that as an experience 🌊
Lizbot (host) 6:50:45 PM
@Carlos - The thing that made my parents have to start accommodating my vegetarianism (and later, veganism) was when my brother started daring (and then married) a vegetarian! Ha! Suddenly we were going out to vegetarian restaurants for family meals
Lizbot (host) 6:52:21 PM
@Christine - yes! do it! the summer isn't far away! One of my favorite things is listening to music on headphones by the water, particularly after a day at the beach of swimming and reading, I like to listen to music while watching the sunset on the bay. Lots of blocks end with a public bench on the bayside of LBI

Matmos!🎈This album I first heard here on ++plusgood
Lizbot (host) 7:08:11 PM
Can't you just picture an animated video for this?
Addie Plum 🐍 7:08:28 PM
This is awfully jaunty!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:29 PM
@Carlos - Much obliged!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:47 PM
@Addie - Jaunt & Lurk - The Lizbot Story
Lizbot (host) 7:09:07 PM
I love these guys. They have come to our studio a couple of times over the years
Ossy Hyouka 7:09:23 PM
Sounds like this, make me want to watch Robot Jones!
Christine 🦉 7:10:32 PM
@Lizbot definitely, and speaking of animation, the Ritz Five is showing the five animated shorts of the Academy Awards short list, which is exciting.
Christine 🦉 7:12:41 PM
If anyone is interested: https://www.landmarktheatres.com/philadelphia/ritz-five/film-info/oscar-nominated-short-films-2022-animation
Lizbot (host) 7:15:10 PM
@Christine - George & I saw the Oscar-Nominated Animated Shorts program yesterday! Funny you should mention it!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:48 PM
@Ossy - I think I need to check out Robot Jones.
Christine 🦉 7:16:21 PM
@Lizbot, Excellent! I watch to catch it this weekend, before the run ends.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:32 PM
@Christine - Have you seen any of the Oscar-Nominated shorts programs yet? I want to get to the live-action and the doc shorts in the next week
Lizbot (host) 7:16:55 PM
@Christine - All are showing at Ambler Theater too, into next week!
Christine 🦉 7:17:24 PM
@Lizbot, No I haven't seen either the live action or the animated short films.
Christine 🦉 7:18:02 PM
@Lizbot, Ambler too? Great to know! I love that theater.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:16 PM
@Christine - I will say about this year's animated selections - I REALLY liked 3 outta the 5 of them. One was okay, and then one (should I say which or wait until after you've seen it? Probably I should wait!) one I really didn't like, but 3 outta 5 being great is pretty good ratio!
mark 7:18:59 PM
@christine thanks for ritz link bopping around on it i see tommy wiseau is appearing there in april
Lizbot (host) 7:20:16 PM
@Christine - Ambler Theater is so beautiful! We indulged and saw two things there yesterday - the animated shorts program and also Peter Bogdanovich's Paper Moon, which they screened for their "Deep Focus" series, AND we took Hattie to see Paper Moon, which was so satisfying to see on the big screen! Been wanting to show her that for years and this was the ideal way!
Christine 🦉 7:21:31 PM
@Mark, our favorite! :)
TAndy 7:22:01 PM
This set is setting my radio on 🔥
Lizbot (host) 7:22:56 PM
@Mark - I saw international mystery man Tommy Wiseau at Ritz Bourse years ago. He comes to the Ritz often for late-night The Room screenings and this time he showed some episodes from his TV show beforehand. I wasn't sure those would be any fun, but they were just as ridiculous as The Room, if not more self-aware. Everyone in the audience brought plastic spoons to throw at the screen whenever that painting of a spoon appeared
Christine 🦉 7:22:56 PM
Seeing Paper Moon on the big screen must have been fantastic, @Lizbot. And what an introduction for Hattie.
Lizbot (host) 7:23:19 PM
@TAndy - Great! That is the intended effect!
Christine 🦉 7:24:02 PM

mark 7:24:27 PM
@christine sorry I’m trying to get it out of my head - 2 weeks of obsessing over the citizen Kane of bad movies !
mark 7:25:55 PM
yeah I think I’ve seen just about everything about the room and watched james efrancos disaster artist yesterday
Lizbot (host) 7:26:07 PM
@Christine - I love Ambler's Deep Focus repertory screenings and discussion series so much! Princeton Garden Theater, Hi-Way Theater in Jenkintown and the Colony Theater in Phoenixville have the same series. That's how I saw Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless on the big screen last week! Sooooo good to see that there! They are also gonna screen Truffaut's 400 Blows, but I'm afraid I might've missed that one
Lizbot (host) 7:26:21 PM
@Ossy - excellent!!!
Lizbot (host) 7:26:59 PM
@mark - I enjoyed the disaster artist, but prefer just watching The Room
Brian D 7:27:30 PM
I hear them saying whiskey...
Christine 🦉 7:28:05 PM
Now that you said whiskey, I can't not hear it @Brian
Brian D 7:28:50 PM
I will listen to them. Later after din din
Lizbot (host) 7:29:51 PM
@Brian D - ha...now I will hear that too! Like when Getty On Rocks at PRB heard me playing Bjork's "Crystalline" a decade ago when Biophilia had just come out and said "it sounds like CRYSTAL LIGHT" and then I couldn't hear it without thinking about powdered lemonade!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:33 PM
Speaking of Hattie seeing Paper Moon - She is on stage right now performing in a production of Antigone - opening night! I am missing it, but I'll be there tomorrow!
Christine 🦉 7:32:50 PM
Wow, Greek tragedy! @Lizbot
Lizbot (host) 7:33:22 PM
@Christine - It's one of these "reimagined for modern times" adaptations
Brian D 7:35:59 PM
Oh hi Denny O hi Denny
mark 7:36:45 PM
you’ll have to give us your review next week i see there’s a ton of adaptations of antigone

@jimbeaux - Yes! And presale is TODAY! Regular ticket sale for Philly show is tomorrow at 10 am. Franklin Music Hall (AKA The Electric Factory). I saw them at the Electric Factory opening for Sonic Youth in 2000. Saw them a few other times, but that most recent tour a couple of years ago REALLY brought out the prb DJs!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:40 PM
Thanks Mark!
jimbeaux 7:58:54 PM
I blame their mid 90s show at the Trocadero for my hearing deficiency.
Lizbot (host) 7:59:01 PM
@Christine - jaha, I should rename this episode that! Thanks for hanging out!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:37 PM
@jimbeaux - yeah, my hearing sucks. Troc is partially to blame. and listening to headphones on too high a volume as a kid!
