First actual fun NYC visit in two years! Only got up there one other time in the past two years, but that was to visit family with no time to do anything else. We did American Utopia, Museum of Art & Design exhibit reminiscent of the sculptures Delia Deets makes in Beetlejuice, took the kid to see Hadestown too. Good stuff!

@Rob - they broke up officially and unofficially and reformed so many times. it's like they've been many different bands. the version with Belew wasn't even going to be called King Crimson at first! I think it was going to be called Discipline and Belew said that was no fun!

@Lizbot, I only followed the original King Crimson(s). Once the Discipline era started, I was allergic to old bands reforming and ignored them, probably to my detriment

@mark - yeah, pretty much. But even the less risqué Von Trier films I am just on the fence about. I feel like Breaking the Waves and Dancer In the Dark felt...off...in a way that seemed to revel a bit too much in the lead actresses' pain. There's a touch of that in his films. I feel like he wrangles tears out of me but in a way that feels cheap. Same with Melancholia. My favorite film of his is actually The Idiots because it's more irreverent.

@Mark - And I actually really liked his odd medical limited series from 20+ years ago, The Kingdom. Aside from his work, he seems like he's not the best dude. but anyway

@Addie, it was 70+ degrees for me yesterday. Today, I think the daytime temperature actually climbed to 37 degrees. Brrrr

@Addie - Oooooh, is he getting frozen mouse-sicles? That's what we used to called the frozen mice for the birds of prey when I worked at Academy of Natural Sciences as a teen.

@Rob - The funny thing is, while I don't prefer Belew era Crimson (though I do like it, it's not my favorite era,) it introduced me to Belew's solo stuff, which I prefer to his work with KC

hearing Yaz in recent years makes me think of The Americans show. The cool Russian spy dad undercover in the USA bought his daughter the Yaz lp right when it came out. Couple songs played during the episode.

In David Byrne's intro to this song at the live show he talks about how this is meant to convey uneasiness - the man in the song is ambivalent about everybody coming to their house (written pre-Covid, fyi), but then he recorded a version with a group of Detroit high school choir kids, and their version is joyful and excited at the prospect of everyone coming over to their houses!

@Brian D - Of The Americans or of Stranger Things? My daughter and I were so hard up for new Stranger Things episodes, we rewatched all of season 2 after streaming season 3 in the summer of 2019. Then we went back and watched S3 in summer of 2020. Since then they pushed back the S4 release date so many times due to delays

@Addie - I do love Evergreen frozen custard on the way down the shore on Rte 70 in the Pineys near Medford! That's my tradition, esp on the way home from the shore - a consolation prize! My go-to order is vanilla with rainbow jimmies on a pretzel cone, sometimes vanilla & orange custard swirl to recreate a dreamsicle flavor!

There is a podcast called "This must be Talking Heads" where the host examines each song on each album, one album per episode; plus, he's had Chris and Jerry as guests

@Addie - Yeah, the Evergreen tradition goes back to when my mom was a camp counselor at Matolleonequay in Medford in the late 50s and always snuck out with fellow counselors for dinner at The Lucky 7 followed by custard at Evergreen.

@Addie - The Lucky & drive-in was still there when I was a kid and she used to take me there on the way to drop me off at summer camp to split a hoagie, followed by Evergreen, but one day we found half a roach in our hoagie, thus ended the Lucky 7 portion of that tradition!

Had some good grub at Red Hen in VT over the summer. Middlesex near Waterbury/Montpelier. Good homemade bread, breakfast sandwiches. Tried the maple creamie pretty darn good. But I am a hard ice cream fan all the way. I was happy that it was not too mapley. More like a honey ice cream flavor.

Annnnnd R.I.P. Betty Davis. February 2022 we lost a lotta great artists.

It was in Philly across from Monk's Cafe and another restaurant that's now gone (and I blame that other restaurant because I never saw evidence of the bugs coming from monk's!) The dumpster of the other place was a roach condo and my first night in my new place I had a bit of meltdown when I realized they had made themselves comfy in my new place while it was vacate!

Remember when we had the cicada invasion last year and they said "Don't eat cicadas if you have a shellfish allergy?"

@Randy / Addie - Then I discovered the horror of palmetto bugs! I didn't know they were a diff species and thought I had a massive monster roach on the inside of my window! I beat it when a dust pan before work and thought it was dead, then ran to catch my bus waiting to clean it off my floor when I got home. Fast forward hours later, I come home and it is back in the EXACT SAME SPOT on my curtain, MOCKING ME. But at least those things are like sloooow tanks

ALLEZ CUISINE - first, obviously, you melt the mouseicles, shave them (set hair aside), skin them, and eat all but the bones like cleaning off a chicken wing, in order to intimidate your opponent. You then mince the roaches on a flat top, adding the sweaty onions from the hoagie. Remove the cream from the twinkie, and split THAT in half like a hoagie roll. mix the twinkie cream and frozen custard into a whiz-like consistency and add to the minced roach & sweaty onions. Let melt.

Add the twinkie roll on top, let it steam for a min, and flip it over. Sprinkle the mouse hair on top (season to taste). Serve with a side of mouse bones. BAM YOU'VE GOT A ROACHSTEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Lizbot My friend of a friend's dad died by an Asian Hornets sting and so sorry you had to go through all that nightmare, that's horrific:(. Beehives are scary, that look like a bird's nest and leaf balloons. My cousin who studied abroad in a boarding school in Abuja, Nigeria and everyone got attacked by a swarm of aggressive bees after some idiot cleaner messed with their beehives. The girl's side were safe, while the boys barely escaped from their wrath, but all made it safe.

@Addie - mmmmm. I bet it was chocolate chip classic. Love those, but partial to those Oreo cookie ice cream sammiches I used to get on the way to the community pool as a kid!

@Ossy - Oh nO! Look up Costa Rican banana wasps! I was there in 2018 visiting my sister in law and our outdoor shower had a nest of them! Their sting is very high on the pain scale

it’s become a bigger & lucrative crime these days bee keepers have taken to adding gps protection to their hives

@Ossy - I kept having run-ins with dangerous insects in Costa Rica. Scorpio on my cabin steps at night, which I watched get eaten by a can toad just after I almost stepped on it!

Was half asleep during a movie screening in the middle of the Arizona desert and woke up to see a strange insect crawling right in front of me, which turned out to be the arizona bark scorpion, the most venomous scorpion in north america :)

After their release of Pollinator, Blondie had a ton of bee-themed merch; which means *I* (my wife) has a ton of bee-themed merch

Damn Liz, scorpions are another venom, they look like mini lobsters with shrimp like stings. Don't get me started with snakes, especially the notorious black mamba, which my aunt used to live near them.

Cane Toads, I read about them, their covered by poison, which they overestimate themselves enough to get eaten by quolls and hordes of meat ants

@Ossy- That's so awful. I was honestly more scared in CR of the very deadly and ubiquitous fer-de-lance snakes that are drab brown there so hard to spot. Our neighbor in the Osa peninsula told us another neighbor died from that snake's bite the year before. It's hard to get to a clinic in time for antidote on those rough roads, esp during rainy season

How awful and so sorry that your neighbor's neighbor died by a snake. Its more treacherous to find a hospital and antidote in rural places. My aunt's dog once got blinded by one in the Enugu region of Nigeria, she can since see as of this day
