MusicChallenged 9:08:56 AM
Hi Sangeet
Sangeet Team (host) 9:09:05 AM
Good Morning @Padma
PADMA GANESH 9:10:08 AM
@Rungun, the poems of Aazhwars and Nayanmars are beautiful
PADMA GANESH 9:11:15 AM
@Rungun any idea when was this TNS piece recorded? The voice sounds more like his son’s
Sangeet Team (host) 9:11:41 AM
Someone shared the work of a retired person from Kerala in Whatsapp and he had translated many many compositions - I used this to search for many pieces for todays show.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:13:45 AM
@Padma It is from 2001 concert
PADMA GANESH 9:14:01 AM
@Rungun thank you
Sangeet Team (host) 9:14:41 AM
His name is Ramachander - http://www.hindupedia.com/en/User:P.R.Ramachander
jimbeaux 9:22:09 AM
This is beautiful!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:22:52 AM
Welcome @Jimbeaux. I agree with you, she has such a nice voice and has rendered it so well
TAndrew 9:24:50 AM
Good morning Rungun, everyone! It's near bedtime for me but I'm keeping my radio on 103.3 of course. This Katti Kulkarni piece is excellent, from the instrumentation to those hauntingly moving vocals. Her voice is something special 💙
Sangeet Team (host) 9:27:25 AM
Welcome Andrew. Thanks for listening and I am sure the music is relaxing and help with sleep. Which part of the world are you in now?
TAndrew 9:31:06 AM
I'm in New Jersey! I do work the night shift however, so on work days the sun works against me 😔
jimbeaux 9:31:31 AM
hey andrewT!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:31:53 AM
Oh okay Andrew. Have a good rest and a good weekend if you doze off.

Good morning jimbeaux, Padma & MusicChallenged. Rest well, TAndrew.
jimbeaux 9:33:33 AM
Hey DTO!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:34:53 AM
Good morning Dave
PADMA GANESH 9:36:43 AM
Good morning Dave! That spinning vinyl is hypnotizing :-)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:37:54 AM
Yes, Padma, it goes well with the hypnotizing music.
TAndrew 9:37:57 AM
Hey hey jimbeaux, Padma, Music challenged, and Dave. Hope everyone has a good saturday 😎
PADMA GANESH 9:39:48 AM
@Rungun Great alapana by the great MS. Thanks for playing TWO great pieces in beautiful Tamil.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:41:38 AM
My pleasure @Padma. I can relate very closely with some of the Tamil compositions ( my mother tongue is Tamil)
PADMA GANESH 9:48:49 AM
@Rungun based on the piece we are hearing now , it is worth repeating often MS was not just a singer; she was a first rate musician. These days “singers” are often over-praised
Sangeet Team (host) 9:51:42 AM
@Padma - so agree with you and she had great humility. When you read about how much she worked on getting her sruti or how she worked on pronunciation before recording - amazing dedication. I have heard that she personally saw to it that her accompanying artists had their meals before she ate... Great Soul
PADMA GANESH 10:42:23 AM
@Rungun what ragam is Ramakrishna Murthy singing? If I am not mistaken, I have heard this piece sung in another raga by the great K V Narayanaswami
Sangeet Team (host) 10:47:32 AM
@Padma - it is Dwijawanthi (same as Akhilandeshwari (which is coming up at the end of the show.
Sangeet Team (host) 10:49:40 AM
I think it is a more popular dance piece because of the meaning - has room for a lot of abhinaya...
PADMA GANESH 10:50:09 AM
@ Thanks
DubNP 10:50:26 AM
Good morning everyone.
Sangeet Team (host) 10:50:42 AM
Welcome DubNP and Good morning to you also
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:53:48 AM
Narendra Datar and Pournima Dhumale are both representing the Agra gharana.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:56:24 AM
Agra gharana still has strong elements of dhrupad.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:04:47 AM
Thanks Dave for that information. I was not able to find a lot of information about Pournima Dhumale
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:14:09 AM
She learnt from her mother Dr. Sulabha Thakar, and from Babanrao Haldankar. She has learnt many rare ragas.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:17:20 AM
Thanks Dave for additional info
Sangeet Team (host) 11:37:25 AM
Two more pieces after this - After the Bansuri - you can hear the carnatic flute called Pulangoil (in Tamil)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:38:32 AM
I believe the flute recording is from a 1988 CD on SonoDisc "La Flute De Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia".
PADMA GANESH 11:39:03 AM
The flute was amazing of course. But the tabla earned the applause too. Was it Zaire Husain?
PADMA GANESH 11:39:19 AM
*Zakir
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:40:11 AM
If I am correct about the source, it was Sabir Khan.
Ossy Hyouka 11:44:58 AM
Morning, awesome festive music like every Saturday starting days!
PADMA GANESH 11:45:04 AM
@Dave thanks!
Sangeet Team (host) 11:45:20 AM
Dave - it might have been on that too. I had a recording of that - I will confirm for you shortly
Sangeet Team (host) 11:45:55 AM
@Padma - not sure. I will try to see if I have that info.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:46:30 AM
@Ossy Hyouka Welcome to the show. Glad you are enjoying Sangeet
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:51:24 AM
Chaurasia's only other "Pahadi Dhun" was on Basant Bahar Vol. 4, with Anindo Chatterjee.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:53:37 AM
@Dave - the one you mention now seems to be the one
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:54:47 AM
Yeah, that was 15 minutes versus 22, so probably from Basant Bahar.
PADMA GANESH 11:57:19 AM
Great show today
Sangeet Team (host) 11:58:10 AM
@Padma - thank you. Looking forward to all you being here next week on Sangeet. Have a great day folks
Sangeet Team (host) 11:59:24 AM
@Dave - I was not able to find where I got my Chaurasia piece from. Will let you know
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:59:53 AM
It's not so important. I own them both.
Sangeet Team (host) 12:00:34 PM
Great Dave
