Robert Palmer The Silver Gun
Pride Island Records 1983

Impressed by Indian classical vocalist Dilshad Khan, Robert Palmer learned to sing this Urdu song phonetically.

6201be85c76af.jpg

"They say a man's best friend is his horse. But I say it is his gun. For what can a horseman do without a gun? I sold my silver barrelled gun And bought a brocade gown for my beloved. But she could not accept it. She returned it. Now I have no gun and no love. No, but with wet lashes and a charming smile, I could tell her heartache was more terrible than mine. I could stand the heartache If I could see you again. Until then, I am alone, city to city, Walking the streets With a heavy heart."

*clap clap clap* for DTO and this excellent program. Turning it on right as those first notes of Sentimental Lady hit, then the screams came in, very fun way to start the day. *clap clap clap*

The Urdu language, if you're not familiar, is very similar to Hindi. But much more poetic and flowery. An analogy might be Victorian English to standard English.
