@Ameena - the aforementioned cinematic decay is in Bill Morrison’s “Decasia” with ambient score by Michael Gordon- I’ve played that score before on my show a long time ago. The whole thing is projected decaying film reels that weren’t stored/restored. It’s hynotizing. Actually, WPRB did a DJ-only screening of it in like...2004..? I remember Jannon Stein and maybe Dan Ruccia were there

although i guess more as in using the decaying tools to make things

@ameena - been listening while eating dinner, so was away from the chat and seeing yr post re yr thesis now- I love that sort of thing. I hate to see film lost to time and rot, but decay itself is beautiful.

@ameena - As far as decaying photographic/film tools, I feel like my house is a shrine to decaying tools (with archaic cords/adapter entrails) after living through too many format changes!

Interesting I'm at dinner too, while listening and watching random shows(fairly odd parents)

@liz yess agree... there's something profound about being able to really see something used up until it quits right in front of you... i also love using early digital cameras which has resulted in acquiring an absurd amount of different memory storage formats

@Ameena - I wish all my photos/videos from my early adulthood weren’t trapped on old formats like that! I have so many mini DV tapes lost in the fray of many house moves, dead external hard drives with content I want trapped on them, DATs I recorded bands on, the list is endless! I have an entire wall of chonky old VHS tapes, hundreds of them, with home-recorded stuff from my old camcorder!

it seems especially hard to get stuff off of tapes now...

Last year I finally finished transcribing over 500 VHS tapes of Stars End to mp3. Never thought I'd get that done.

@Ameena - I documented so many events/shows/etc but then maintaining and accessing an archive over endless format change feels impossible. I deeply resent planned obsolescence, so I tend not to switch to newer formats until it’s virtually unavoidable!

@Andy Wing - oooooof. Yeah, I gotta get on top off transcribing my tapes. Some surely are too damaged by this point. I have stuff going back to the late 70s/early 80s Old clamshell VHS tapes and neither of my two VCRs currently work

@Andy Wing - I’m pissed DVD-Rs & CD-Rs I wrote on with sharpie deteriorated quicker! Nevermind the “stamped” discs- remember CD stampers?! And forget my mini-discs! Those were always inconvenient- couldn’t play in an optical drive and I always had Macs, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ossy - re: twilight princess and wind walker - Sounds like you played a lot of gamecube. I never had one of those, but played Cubeivore on a friend’s cube 20 years ago. That game was hilarious

@Liz Bot - I'm actually new to them, since being on the lockdown pandemic. I hadn't finished them yet, but TP(for the Wii I'm playing) is so long, intense and dark, but still fun. Wind Waker is magnificent with the gameplay and animation. I played and completed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and currently in Sonic Heroes. I played little of Smash Bros Melee on schoolmate's gamecube.

@mark - oh yeah, this would work well scoring Decasia! 🤔 Various PRB shows set to Decasia! Now we’re onto something!

@Liz Yeah, Majora is the sequel to Ocarina of Time. I played little of it and don't know too much. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are also after Ocarina in different timelines after centuries, learning the Zelda timeline
