this is a cool version. i haven't heard it played. do you recall who played it, andy (and hi BTW!)
crucialobject 8:04:02 PM

Ameena (host) 8:09:46 PM

Lizbot 8:09:54 PM
okay, this song reminds me of the chiller levels of katamari damacy
Ameena (host) 8:09:58 PM
the rest of the album is quite different but also incredible
Lizbot 8:10:17 PM
@ameena - I gotta check it out asap! after yr show!
Ameena (host) 8:10:49 PM
heheh
Tyler B 8:13:01 PM
Sounding like an episode of from the notebook in here
mark 8:13:30 PM
& esoterica assigned viewing the fog starring adrien barbeau in an earlier chat :)
Tyler B 8:13:50 PM
Ahh I was just gonna ask about if anyone has ever played Katamari damacy music on wprb before
Dante 8:14:26 PM
twigggyyyyy
Dante 8:14:30 PM
neeeeeeeddd
Sofia Lee 8:14:49 PM
such flipper's guitar vibes in the previous track
Dante 8:15:06 PM
flippy's guitar...
Ameena (host) 8:15:26 PM
i thought that too!
Lizbot 8:15:43 PM
@Tyler B - Listener Mark & I were talking about J Carpenter's The Fog too, in my chat just before clowntronics ...I wonder how many ppl are gonna watch that/rewatch it in this foggy night
Lizbot 8:17:21 PM
the fog was co-written by Debra Hill, who went to my high school!
Lizbot 8:18:06 PM
oooooh, I love this one. that intro!
Esoterica 8:18:38 PM
that's right, mark! the fog assigned viewing, but instead i am re-reading hamlet tonight, alas
Ameena (host) 8:18:38 PM
love the intro...
Tyler B 8:19:41 PM
Great show tonight thank you all. And lizbot I was driving earlier so i couldn't chat but had a great time tuning in
mark 8:20:14 PM
@eso followed by Joel cohens macbeth ?’
Ameena (host) 8:20:45 PM
thanks for tuning in tonight~
Esoterica 8:21:16 PM
@mark, i do want to see that new coen!
Lizbot 8:22:04 PM
@Eso & Mark - so do I! Argh! I wish I could go to a theater! I wanna see the new Almodovar that just came out too
Tyler B 8:22:14 PM
It is mad foggy here in Phila suburbs, too
Lizbot 8:22:28 PM
@Tyler B - thx for listening during yr drive!
Sofia Lee 8:22:38 PM
no fog over here, been rainy lately though
Andy Wing 8:22:53 PM
I think Bryce may have played some Kimura on WFMU.
mark 8:22:59 PM
I think lizbot recommend of bill morrison will be my rabbit hole tonite :)
mark 8:23:56 PM
still LOL at your thought about 80& 90s film restoration!
Andy Wing 8:24:32 PM
Here's another rabbit hole, search Youtube with just emojis in the search bar... and brace yourself.
Esoterica 8:24:49 PM
cool, andy! i want to dig further into that pardon kimura
Esoterica 8:25:22 PM
i want to see the new almodovar, too! @liz
Lizbot 8:26:00 PM
@Mark - this eerie night is a perfect time to watch films decay!
Andy Wing 8:28:11 PM
That "three berry" cover looks like a vintage Danish children's construction set.
Ameena (host) 8:28:46 PM
it's epic...
mark 8:29:34 PM
@lizbot quite a bit on you tube to view !
Andy Wing 8:29:46 PM
Some films are cinematic decay itself, like "Begotten"
DSM 8:43:03 PM
Fog Noir
Ameena (host) 8:44:42 PM
cinematic decay i hear?
mark 8:45:17 PM
there’s doc about making film the fog on YT I’m gonna watch w ameenas great playlist as back drop
mark 8:46:13 PM
@lizbot it includes debra hill footage
DSM 8:49:49 PM
Mark I'm gonna have to watch that later too, thanks for the heads up
Dante 8:51:53 PM
perpetual magma man...
Liz Bot 8:57:31 PM
@Mark- ooooh, nice! Gonna have to watch that soon. Almost watched the fog with the kid in October, but we had a very solid long list of spooky films to get through
Liz Bot 8:58:05 PM
@DSM - Fog Noir! Ha
Liz Bot 9:01:54 PM
@Ameena - the aforementioned cinematic decay is in Bill Morrison’s “Decasia” with ambient score by Michael Gordon- I’ve played that score before on my show a long time ago. The whole thing is projected decaying film reels that weren’t stored/restored. It’s hynotizing. Actually, WPRB did a DJ-only screening of it in like...2004..? I remember Jannon Stein and maybe Dan Ruccia were there
Ameena (host) 9:08:42 PM
ooo that sounds incredible!!
Liz Bot 9:09:22 PM
it’s good stuff!
mark 9:10:21 PM
@lizbot the 27 minute doc is pretty good fyi the movies promotional poster says person under 15 not admitted - you’ve been warned !
Ossy Hyouka 9:10:26 PM
Nice Japanese music with rnb and jazz, Ameenatronics
Ameena (host) 9:10:55 PM
i've sort of kept up an interest in.... decaying photographic/film technology for a while and have been exploring it for my visual arts thesis
Ameena (host) 9:11:25 PM
although i guess more as in using the decaying tools to make things
jimbeaux 9:16:54 PM
Ameeeeeeeeeeeenaaaaa ◽▫️◻⬜◻▫️◽⬜
Ameena (host) 9:17:51 PM
hey jimbeaaaaauuuuux
George Korein 9:24:15 PM
Ooh a cyperpunk bop
Ameena (host) 9:26:33 PM
indeeeeed
Ameena (host) 9:26:50 PM
i guess i haven't thought of cyberpunk for it before...
Liz Bot 9:44:27 PM
@ameena - been listening while eating dinner, so was away from the chat and seeing yr post re yr thesis now- I love that sort of thing. I hate to see film lost to time and rot, but decay itself is beautiful.
Liz Bot 9:45:32 PM
@ameena - As far as decaying photographic/film tools, I feel like my house is a shrine to decaying tools (with archaic cords/adapter entrails) after living through too many format changes!
Ossy Hyouka 9:45:50 PM
Interesting I'm at dinner too, while listening and watching random shows(fairly odd parents)
Ameena (host) 9:50:58 PM
@liz yess agree... there's something profound about being able to really see something used up until it quits right in front of you... i also love using early digital cameras which has resulted in acquiring an absurd amount of different memory storage formats
Ameena (host) 9:51:11 PM
not floppy disk though.....
Liz Bot 9:52:19 PM
Hi OSsy! I played the intro theme to the game Shadow of the Beast for the Amiga 500 (1989) tonight and thought of you!
Andy Wing 9:52:32 PM
Any Iomega "Click" drives, lol.
Liz Bot 9:58:19 PM
@Ameena - I wish all my photos/videos from my early adulthood weren’t trapped on old formats like that! I have so many mini DV tapes lost in the fray of many house moves, dead external hard drives with content I want trapped on them, DATs I recorded bands on, the list is endless! I have an entire wall of chonky old VHS tapes, hundreds of them, with home-recorded stuff from my old camcorder!
Ameena (host) 9:59:07 PM
yeahhh they're all really inconvenient
Ossy Hyouka 9:59:11 PM
Hey Liz! Thanks for the reminder of me playing throwback games! Brings DJ Milky Way vibes! Also played some of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker back and forth!
Ameena (host) 9:59:28 PM
and got phased out and replaced too quickly to remain usable right now
Ameena (host) 10:00:32 PM
it seems especially hard to get stuff off of tapes now...
Andy Wing 10:01:09 PM
Last year I finally finished transcribing over 500 VHS tapes of Stars End to mp3. Never thought I'd get that done.
Liz Bot 10:01:16 PM
@Ameena - I documented so many events/shows/etc but then maintaining and accessing an archive over endless format change feels impossible. I deeply resent planned obsolescence, so I tend not to switch to newer formats until it’s virtually unavoidable!
Liz Bot 10:03:37 PM
@Andy Wing - oooooof. Yeah, I gotta get on top off transcribing my tapes. Some surely are too damaged by this point. I have stuff going back to the late 70s/early 80s Old clamshell VHS tapes and neither of my two VCRs currently work
Liz Bot 10:04:22 PM
Soothing Sounds for Non-Babies!
Ameena (host) 10:06:23 PM
oops that transition was NOT healing...
Liz Bot 10:06:28 PM
@Andy Wing - I’m pissed DVD-Rs & CD-Rs I wrote on with sharpie deteriorated quicker! Nevermind the “stamped” discs- remember CD stampers?! And forget my mini-discs! Those were always inconvenient- couldn’t play in an optical drive and I always had Macs, so 🤷🏻‍♀️
Dante 10:06:41 PM
me when i'm healing...
George Korein 10:06:45 PM
I’ve been digging this show, far-out far-flung sounds that are new to me
Liz Bot 10:06:45 PM
@ameena - I am healed!
Ameena (host) 10:08:04 PM
healing time...
Andy Wing 10:08:30 PM
I remember the "dissolving" CD-Rs, argh!
Ameena (host) 10:08:47 PM
always happy to fling far for new show material :o)
Ameena (host) 10:09:02 PM
dissolving CD-Rs....
Andy Wing 10:09:25 PM
I still have two working VCRs, one is a workhorse Mitsubishi I got 30 years ago.
Dante 10:10:37 PM
need aurora so bad rn
jimbeaux 10:10:54 PM
Healing With Feeling
Liz Bot 10:11:30 PM
@Ossy - re: twilight princess and wind walker - Sounds like you played a lot of gamecube. I never had one of those, but played Cubeivore on a friend’s cube 20 years ago. That game was hilarious
George Korein 10:11:34 PM
This keyboard “fretless bass” is like a flourescent singing elephant in an animation fest short
Ossy Hyouka 10:11:48 PM
That's why its wprbience especially the Ichiko Hashimoto view from earlier.
jimbeaux 10:12:12 PM
Gosh, don't remind me about my hoard of obsolete media...including 8-tracks!
Ameena (host) 10:12:18 PM
hahahah
Roffle... 10:12:20 PM
Healing dreamscapes rounding out the girls night out. Cool! :)
Ameena (host) 10:12:42 PM
@george going to imagine the elephant while healing now....
Liz Bot 10:13:00 PM
@george - 😂 🐘 That’s like Takako Minekawa’s video for Maxi On! Floating elephant girl drifting over buildings
George Korein 10:13:18 PM
I forgot to mention the elephant is floating through the air and slowly flipping
Liz Bot 10:13:20 PM
R.I.P. Milky Elephant art collective
George Korein 10:13:39 PM
Or
George Korein 10:13:44 PM
Maybe just tilting
Liz Bot 10:13:48 PM
@George - I misread that as glitching at first and was trying to imagine a slow glitch
George Korein 10:13:48 PM
You know
mark 10:15:35 PM
the decasia/ morrison clips are really interesting working well w ameenas soundtrack underneath their music
Roffle... 10:16:15 PM
Dumbo was a flying elephant. Man those were different times.
Ossy Hyouka 10:17:36 PM
@Liz Bot - I'm actually new to them, since being on the lockdown pandemic. I hadn't finished them yet, but TP(for the Wii I'm playing) is so long, intense and dark, but still fun. Wind Waker is magnificent with the gameplay and animation. I played and completed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and currently in Sonic Heroes. I played little of Smash Bros Melee on schoolmate's gamecube.
Liz Bot 10:18:44 PM
@mark - oh yeah, this would work well scoring Decasia! 🤔 Various PRB shows set to Decasia! Now we’re onto something!
jimbeaux 10:19:00 PM
Pachy-glitchy-derm 🐘
Ossy Hyouka 10:20:09 PM
Saw Google images of Cubivore, and looks kinda Minecraft and those early 3d cartoons! Currently been playing handful of Nintendo 64 games, Liz
Ossy Hyouka 10:21:26 PM
This current song sounds kinda some Zelda music mixed with the Japanese 🌸🌺💠
jimbeaux 10:21:27 PM
Love Decasia!
Liz Bot 10:21:27 PM
@Ossy - Yeah, come to think of it Cubeivore is totally Proto-Minecraft! I love the cubic sun and moon, which drop to the ground with a clunk!
George Korein 10:21:55 PM
This song has big moody video game soundtrack vibes
Liz Bot 10:22:19 PM
@jimbeaux - it’s so mesmerizing! I am glad I grabbed my chance to see it on the big screen
George Korein 10:22:31 PM
Big mood. 90s Horror computer game
AndrewT 10:23:01 PM
Beautiful music
mark 10:23:15 PM
@lizbot thanks for directing me towards it don’t complain about your decaying media until you hear him talk about nitrate film 🎥:)
Liz Bot 10:24:20 PM
@mark - we’re all just snails riding on record players watching the world rot like in a Zed & Two Noughts 🐌
mark 10:24:21 PM
it’s got to be gorgeous on big screen watching it on an iPhone presently
George Korein 10:24:48 PM
Also this song could be considered high-quality dungeon synth
George Korein 10:25:10 PM
IMHO
AndrewT 10:26:17 PM
I've heard this melody somewhere. Can't put together where though
Ossy Hyouka 10:26:58 PM
@Liz Lmao, like the scary moon from Zelda Majora's Mask
mark 10:28:06 PM
@lizbot had to look up to see that was a greenaway reference
Dante 10:28:13 PM
need to go to shiho yabukis's rural healing commune...
Liz Bot 10:28:20 PM
@Ossy - Was that the one after Ocarina of Time? I haven’t played any of these but I like their soundtracks!
Ossy Hyouka 10:28:35 PM
This is pure holy and gaming sounding, as if its an end credit of Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy
AndrewT 10:29:15 PM
This sounds like a fever dream one would have about N64 Zelda honestly
mark 10:29:55 PM
Kurtz said I watched a snail crawl along edge of straight razor that’s my dream that’s my nightmare
Ossy Hyouka 10:30:45 PM
@Liz Yeah, Majora is the sequel to Ocarina of Time. I played little of it and don't know too much. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are also after Ocarina in different timelines after centuries, learning the Zelda timeline
Ameena (host) 10:30:57 PM
really enjoy seeing all the reactions to isotonic sound...
Liz Bot 10:31:20 PM
I’d say this is Spooky Cold Medieval (by tone-loc) but it’s more gospel Hammond organ with that rotating speaker for this fluttery sound
AndrewT 10:31:29 PM
I just added these two albums to my "Dreams" playlist I listen to when having sleep troubles
Ossy Hyouka 10:32:53 PM
And thought of this from a Kirby game
Liz Bot 10:35:43 PM
These synth arpeggios are like the end of Oahu by The 6ths (the track that Miss Lilly Banquette from Combustible Edison sings on)
Liz Bot 10:37:53 PM
@mark - poor snail. I’d rather be a hammer than a snail (sliding along a razor blade)
mark 10:40:21 PM
@lizbot are you an apocalypse now fan ? the 40th anniversary directors cut from couple years ago in theater was fantastic
Roffle... 10:41:02 PM
I don't get a game vibe at all from this. More of a "Welcome to Fujitsu Corporation. Your enhancement technician will be with you shortly." While waiting in the lobby thing. But that's just me.
Ossy Hyouka 10:42:06 PM
Now playing Twilight Princess with this moment!
AndrewT 10:42:16 PM
I get Blade Runner vibes, specifically the images described during the Roy Batty speech
George Korein 10:42:48 PM
I’d rather be a razor blade with a snail sliding on me than a snail sliding on a razor blade, yes I would, if I only could
George Korein 10:43:11 PM
I’d rather have a snail sliding on a razor blade in front of me than a frontal lobotomy
mark 10:43:49 PM
was that a transmission monitored out of cambodia? :)
Liz Bot 10:44:26 PM
mmm, gooey fretless bass
mark 10:44:41 PM
played on a giant reel to reel tape by harrison ford
George Korein 10:45:15 PM
A taco lips now
George Korein 10:45:47 PM
Pay later
Liz Bot 10:46:04 PM
🐌 🌮 snail tacos are the official food of the apocalypse
George Korein 10:47:16 PM
So artisanal, the snails sliced themselves into the topping
Roffle... 10:47:45 PM
Had escargot as a side at Brother Bruno's in Manhattan once that was really good.
George Korein 10:47:55 PM
Too artisanal to bespoke of
Dante 10:50:10 PM
Me when i am an Elephant taking a nap with a sheep
George Korein 10:50:26 PM
If I wanted to prevent from depression I don’t think I’d go to a cold windy overcast winter beach
Ameena (host) 10:51:33 PM
so true...
Liz Bot 10:51:49 PM
Gonna pile on heaps of sheeps to sleep tonight
Liz Bot 10:52:12 PM
Hero Sheeps of Sushi 🍣 🐑
AndrewT 10:52:48 PM
Almost time for that juxtaposition in a few minutes. Going from this to Flex is going to be hilarious lol love both shows to bits though <3
George Korein 10:52:53 PM
Pre-vent from depression, post-vent from depression
jimbeaux 10:53:21 PM
Do Japan-droids dream of eclectic sheep?
Roffle... 10:53:26 PM
@AndrewT - Just thinking the same thing. lol
George Korein 10:53:44 PM
Raw sheep
AndrewT 10:53:45 PM
@jimbeaux they have no mouth but they must baa
George Korein 10:54:04 PM
Raw mutton
George Korein 10:54:17 PM
Get y’all mittens on raw muttons
Roffle... 10:54:55 PM
Lamb chops in the freezer are calling.
Liz Bot 10:55:05 PM
The lion lies down with the lamb in the Peaceable Kingdom, and the sheep lies down with elephant in the PRBcible Kingdom
George Korein 10:56:14 PM
Bit on the butt by the bitcoin con, my rhymes bitten, royal tease, couldn’t get my cut mon
George Korein 10:57:21 PM
Goooooooooooood night
Liz Bot 10:57:23 PM
Thank you, Ameena, for another great show! Go get some shleep
mark 10:57:32 PM
glad the witticisms started up late night:) lovely show !
jimbeaux 10:57:41 PM
Thx ameeeeena!
Ameena (host) 10:57:52 PM
definitely schleepy time...
Ameena (host) 10:58:03 PM
goodnight everyone, thanks for tuning in! :o)
AndrewT 10:58:25 PM
Thank you so much for the show, especially this last hour.
Roffle... 10:58:58 PM
Peace
Liz Bot 10:59:26 PM
And the lamb lies down in Rahway
Ossy Hyouka 10:59:38 PM
Heavenly, real heavenly Ameenatronics, and indirectly got me playing Twilight Princess on the last few hours of those songs. Have a nice night and you too Liz!
Ameena (host) 10:59:50 PM
gnight!
mark 11:00:18 PM
haha Lizbot you win !!
Liz Bot 11:00:20 PM
Sleeping cheaply on the midnight show
Roffle... 11:01:04 PM
@Liz Bot - That one got doing Carteret wheels!
Roffle... 11:01:16 PM
