300th episode!

61e30a2f5bbdc.jpg

It's my 300th episode! To celebrate, I made a spreadsheet!! That was really fun, thank you for the opportunity to make spreadsheets, now here's a normal episode.

JUST KIDDING i added up all the songs I played and am counting down the artists I played the most in my first 299 episodes! And playing the song (or one of the songs) I played the most by them. and talking about dorky statistics and trends. ROCK N ROLL.

some notes for my fellow nerds:
- i didn't include tribute shows to single artists (i have done ones for chumbawamba, the monkees/mike nesmith and the ramones)
- themed shows only so no transistor sister
- i added comparisons to rankings from the last time i did this (my 100th episode in 2017) but i only have a record of my top 43 songs from that.
- i am pretty sure i fucked things up so the numbers aren't 100% accurate SO BE IT

Happy 300th CF! Seems like yesterday you had your 200th gala event, complete with my audio tribute. Congratulation!!!
Commie Francis (host) 8:10:02 PM
seems like only yesterday and also 100 million years ago
jimbeaux 8:11:36 PM
300 in Roman numerals is CCC for C-C-COMMIE!

Jeff from Flemington 8:15:23 PM
My cousin met Lou Reed. He was drilling a water well on his property. He said he was cool.
Rob from cold and snowy Maryland 8:16:03 PM
Good evening Commie and uneasy listeners. I rank this show in the top 10 of Uneasy Listening shows I've heard
Jeff from Flemington 8:19:58 PM
Rob, I'm with you. I would put the "Explosions" theme show at #1 or #2.
David Shortell 8:21:30 PM
I last saw Billy Childish (with the Buff Medways) at Warsaw in 2001. I don't think he's been to the US since. Not the east coast, anyway.
Jeff from Flemington 8:23:09 PM
Maybe some Howlin' Wolf or Robert Johnson later?
Commie Francis (host) 8:25:16 PM
the 300th show thing is the full 3 hours so it's all predetermined!
Jeff from Flemington 8:26:49 PM
BS
Commie Francis (host) 8:27:14 PM
such is life
Commie Francis (host) 8:27:27 PM

My apologies. It was another webpage that I had opened. I feel like shxx
Commie Francis (host) 8:33:03 PM

Jeff from Flemington 8:33:26 PM
You are golden
Jeff from Flemington 8:34:15 PM
And I thought it was like an "intervention" LOL
Commie Francis (host) 8:37:57 PM
my mom is listening appropriately enough
David Shortell 8:39:02 PM
I wonder how many Archies also played in the Groovie Goolies (not to be confused with the Groovie Ghoulies) or the Hardy Boys or any other Filmation “band”.
Commie Francis (host) 8:39:51 PM
i have so much to say about that but have to talk in seconds.
Commie Francis (host) 8:45:23 PM
my guess would be possibly all the same people (although not ron dante at least not as a singer) in the groovie goolies and not many in the hardy boys
Commie Francis (host) 8:45:35 PM
probably some overlap with josie and the pussycats obvs
David Shortell 8:51:37 PM
The television program “Josie and the Pussycats” was produced by Hanna-Barbera however. They, instead of Filmation, somehow acquired the TV animation rights to those particular Archieverse characters.
Commie Francis (host) 8:52:26 PM
oh yeah the pussycats guested on scooby doo
Jeff from Flemington 8:57:44 PM
This episode is like a wild horse that I need to tame. Horse whispering right now..
jimbeaux 8:59:22 PM
Let it run wild, Jeff!
David Shortell 8:59:32 PM
What I want to know, Jeff, is why the hell was Lou Reed drilling a water well on your cousin’s property?
Jeff from Flemington 9:00:06 PM
Haha, Cuz was drilling a well on his NJ property about twenty years ago
Jeff from Flemington 9:00:21 PM
His= Lou Reed
David Shortell 9:00:26 PM
Ah, pronoun trouble! (To quote the duck in Chuck Jones’ “Rabbit Seasoning”)
Commie Francis (host) 9:01:03 PM
one of the 7 songs i played 5 times was CRAZY HORSES so it's fitting
jimbeaux 9:02:06 PM
Are you gonna share the spreadsheet/graphs/charts/pie tables?
Commie Francis (host) 9:02:25 PM
yes probably
jimbeaux 9:03:30 PM
I'm just imagining a messy workable and dry erase board:)
Commie Francis (host) 9:03:41 PM
map with pins
jimbeaux 9:03:52 PM
Yessss!
Commie Francis (host) 9:04:18 PM

Andrew Gruen 9:44:20 PM

Ossy Hyouka 9:52:35 PM
Kool n The Gang homage
Commie Francis (host) 9:53:24 PM
i love thin lizzy but they didn't make the list!
Commie Francis (host) 9:53:55 PM
big boys were awesome, they were a hc/punk band also did these very straightforward funk songs
Commie Francis (host) 9:54:42 PM
their song "fun fun fun" is about how it's ok to like both punk and post punk
Danosaur 9:55:13 PM
Hmm, how about Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry 🍒?
Commie Francis (host) 9:56:07 PM
haha i just heard the second wild cherry song i have ever heard a few weeks ago on someone else's show! it was good but also sounded a lot like play that funky music
connor 9:56:47 PM
on the edge of my seat for the top ten!
Commie Francis (host) 9:56:47 PM
now it is time for the saddest motorhead song
Danosaur 9:57:42 PM
Aw, sad Mötorhead 😢
Danosaur 9:58:56 PM
Yeah, I'm guessing Wild Cherry didn't have a lot of range
Rob from cold and snowy Maryland 9:58:57 PM
Sö säd indeed
Danosaur 10:00:01 PM
All the umlauts were crying
Rob from cold and snowy Maryland 10:00:58 PM

Danosaur 10:03:05 PM
Gil Scott Heron? You're full of surprises
Danosaur 10:03:45 PM
So much soul
Commie Francis (host) 10:04:56 PM
i don't actually know where this version comes from, i don't think it's the lp version
Commie Francis (host) 10:05:24 PM
funkadelic would have made it if i counted all pfunk together but i didn't :(
Danosaur 10:06:48 PM
The Archies and Gil Scott Heron, this show has range. I like it!
Danosaur 10:08:45 PM
Very groovy. I can almost smell the pachouli.
David Shortell 10:10:48 PM
It was very kind of Donovan to reference Jefferson Airplane during the group’s pre-Grace non-fame!
Commie Francis (host) 10:11:20 PM
he seems like he is a super nice guy!
Commie Francis (host) 10:11:52 PM
he just randomly sang on billion dollar babies because he was in the building and alice cooper asked him if he could sing the high parts
Danosaur 10:13:53 PM
That's interesting
Danosaur 10:17:35 PM
Wow! The Cowsills! Can't remember the last time I heard them. I love bubble gum rock.
Commie Francis (host) 10:20:11 PM

Rob from cold and snowy Maryland 10:22:55 PM
Emmylou Harris covered "Hello Stranger" on an early album. I've not heard this version (original?)
Rob from cold and snowy Maryland 10:23:10 PM
It's a good singalong kind of song
jimbeaux 10:24:00 PM
