Hello here I am BACK on Saturday nights with a journey into a formative radio experience that literally changed my life!

Back in the mid 90s I used to listen most weeks to the New Afternoon show with Laure. The New Afternoon Show is a WNYU show that is still around to this day; every day a rotating crew of DJs play new music in the afternoon, pretty simple. I think it was on Tuesdays that Laure was on. I listened to a fair amount of college radio but Laure's show was the only one where I'd sit and write down every song, marking the ones I really liked with stars. She was playing music that really spoke to me and that I wasn't hearing anywhere else. I was already dialed in to punk but she was playing indie rock, post hardcore, noise rock etc and I had no idea how to break into that world. I feel like I have a shared lexicon with a lot of 90s college radio listeners and DJs because of what I learned from her show. And my desire to do my own radio show very much came from listening to hers.

Decades later, when someone called in to WPRB and told me that they were writing down all the songs, I felt like I had truly Made It as a DJ!

Anyway I recently found some of the playlists I transcribed so to celebrate my return to this medium I love so much, here is a show of some of the songs I head back then!
